We stayed at the Lodge at Vail in a studio room. Very nice room set up, full kitchen, balcony, and fireplace. The ambiance was lovely. The location was great. The hotel is situated in the center of the village. This room had a Murphy bed which was very comfortable. The room was nicely appointed. I had previously asked for non feather pillows to be available in my room upon making my reservation. Upon checking in and arrival the requested pillows were not placed in my room. I only received them after having to request them again. I noticed various other inconsistencies in communication during our stay. When I inquired about using the fireplace. The front desk staff mentioned that a hotel staff member was only permitted to start a fire in the room’s fireplace, and that we would need to call the front desk to do so. When I requested a hotel staff member to do this task, the staff member assigned to assist us mentioned he was not familiar with how to start the fire. So we ended up doing it ourselves instead. he actually mentioned he had never done this task before. The restaurant was only open for breakfast. The restaurant offered alfresco dining. The service was good. The omelette and cappuccino were delicious. I had made a previous reservation on open table for a late breakfast that morning. During the early morning of my reservation I received a call from the restaurant manager informing me that they could not accommodate my reservation because the restaurant was going to be closed for a private event. He did offer me a discount on my bill if I came in earlier. Each morning a self service coffee station was available in the lobby and with flavored water in the afternoon. With regard to food and drink pool service while my husband and I were relaxing at the pool there was no assigned staff member to take a lunch or a drink order. I had to call the the front desk to retrieve a staff member to do so. It took about 20 minutes for someone to assist us. When our order arrived the wait staff had to go back to the kitchen to bring back the condiments that accompanied my burger. My food was already cold when she returned. The concierge was not available to assist me the next morning after checkin because she only was scheduled to work part of of the day. This was on a Saturday morning. Another complaint and concern was that during our last night of our stay the hotel fire alarm went off three times during the the late hours in the night and again in the early morning hours. Each time the alarm staying on very loudly and long enough to make for a very unsettled sleep. There was an all clear intercom announcement after it went off the first time. No other announcements after it went off the other two times. When I inquired at the front desk on duty the next morning there was no explanation as to the cause. In their response one staff member did not seem very cordial not offering any explanation as to the nature as to why this occurred. For a 5 star accommodation, I would have expected this place to offer a more improved service and restful experience. Unfortunately it feel it fell below my expectation. I might consider returning to the hotel in the future. Based on my experience during this stay I am undecided. There were many nice things about the hotel’s ambiance and location, but also a few items which I can’t ignore as not making my vacation stay all that I would...
Read moreThe room was really pretty, clean, and roomy enough for my group staying there, but nearly everything else was way below what I would expect, given how expensive it was (even before the surprise $50/night parking charge, plus tips for the valets).
I could list it all out, but I'll hit the high points here.
My biggest complaint was the complete lack of air conditioning or other cooling methods in the unit. I take that back. ONE of the two bedrooms had a stand-alone unit that vented through one of the windows. It was 90+ degrees out! There was no relief from the heat in the living area of our unit- not even a ceiling fan! Our friends stayed in the master suite so we could share the other room with our daughter, but our room was on the top level and had no way to move air through, aside from a small window near the ceiling and a tower fan in one corner. The fan was not powerful enough to make any impact, but it sure sounded like it was struggling to do what it could. Eventually, in the middle of the night, the high window would let in enough cool air that we stopped sweating, but none of us actually bothered to un-make the beds at night because the idea of sleeping under a sheet or blanket sounded terrible. We just slept on top of the covers.
We had a suite with a kitchen including a fridge & freezer but, unfortunately, the ice maker wasn't making ice, and none of us could find an ice machine in the building. So there wasn't even a way to get a cold drink of water in our room without having to go out and buy bottles to store in the fridge.
I feel like a room that expensive should at least be a comfortable place to relax. Instead, we tried to avoid the room as much as possible so we didn't have to roast in it.
The living area of our suite opened up onto a really pleasant patio overlooking the village, which was completely unusable because it was right in front of the next room's window- a window that had to remain open all the time because that room's air conditioning unit vented through it. So, if we were to use the porch, there would be no privacy for us OR the people in that room. It felt very much like our room and theirs was supposed to be one unit, but someone put up a heavy door to one of the bedrooms and decided it was a different unit. In fact, the door between them was left open when we arrived, and we assumed it was part of our suite (because of the patio setup) until the actual guests showed up and opened the door with their key cards while we were unpacking. That was an honest mistake, but given everything else, it's difficult to overlook.
The shower had body wash and conditioner, but no shampoo. The products that were there smelled awful and were very strong.
There is more, but I think you get the idea. I will definitely not stay there again, and cannot recommend it at all. I'd give it one star, but I'll throw in a 2nd because it was clean, cute, and in...
Read moreI don’t give 1 star reviews. 1 star reviews are for crazy people who have some sort of irrational gripe. But no. This gets my first and last ever 1 star review. This place is horrible.
Service sucks. From the start: Tried to check in my car to the valet who ask “what are you dropping off?” Uhh this car that I am handing you the keys for?! “Oooh uh ok.. you need a car?” No? I’m dropping one off. “Uuuhh what are you dropping on…?” the person behind me who was in my group had the same issue with them and was totally weirded out.
We had an event at Cucina across of elways. Man that food was amazingly, impressively, BAD. They opted for sliders of: Falafel, burger & BBQ. The buns stuck to the platters and you could not even get them out. You could only remove the top half and had to leave the base bun alone - too sloppy messy with the stuck buns. Like… just put some parchment paper down?! And the flat bread? Just gross.
What about the room? No hot water. Tried to take a bath but it was lot quite luke warm. Got stuck with a luke warm chilly shower the next day. Asked them to fix it. They did something, not a fix: if you put the dial somewhere teetering on the edges of cold and find a very random hot spot that made no sense and was scalding hot. So either cold, cold, one random sliver of scaling hit, immediately back to cold, cold (did not follow the logic of the handle markings) God it was awful. Just one spot On the dial on the cold side.
The AC never followed the setting. Set it in the ball park for 68-70. Tried a few setting. Never got cooler than 74. No wonder the room had a funky smell, years of people sweating it out in there much have built up.
I asked them to turn down the room first thing in the morning they said they would. They didn’t. So I asked again and then they said they would. Still did not. So I asked one last time and at that point that said no more house keeping was on staff. All they said they could do was drop off linens at my door. And all that was someone knocking on my door and handing me a trash bag filled with linens and walking away.
Good euphemism for what they are:...
