I have two different experiences with this restaurant, both leaving me feeling quite frustrated.
I first came to this restaurant in January after being recommended this restaurant by several friends. It was difficult to get a reservation but we called 30 days prior and got in. We ordered an appetizer, a pasta dish, and an entree. The food all tasted good, however, all dishes were brought out extremely quickly — 5 min after sitting down the app came, then 5-10 minutes later the entrees came. We were done eating in 30 minutes. It felt extremely rushed and as if they were trying to turn over tables quickly. Both my husband and I were confused and disappointed by this, as we were hoping to enjoy a nicely paced dinner. Despite this, we were willing to give them a second chance because the food did taste good.
That brings me to the most recent experience this week. We were coming back to Vail and wanted to give them another shot. We made the reservation by phone 30 days prior and were told we had a 7:30 reservation. The day prior to the reservation I got concerned as I did not receive a confirmation text. I called and they said they had no record of the reservation. I noted how this is very confusing as I did call, spoke to someone, and then put the reservation in my phone. The individual I spoke with could have cared less. There was no apology or concern in any way. They offered no way of remedying the situation or anything. They said I could be put on a waitlist but that is it. Never got a call or anything to help get us in for any day this week. I was left having to find a new reservation elsewhere. Not exactly the way I wanted to spend a vacation. Needless to say, I am now over...
Read moreWe’ve dined at La Nonna twice before over the past couple of years and were always impressed with the fine Italian cuisine, so we were excited to return. The restaurant itself is stunning—cathedral ceilings, large picture windows, and a warm, inviting ambiance. The service remains impeccable, with friendly and attentive staff.
However, what was seriously lacking this time was the food. Dishes that were once rich, flavorful, and indulgent felt underwhelming and uninspired. The wild boar pasta (Tagliatelle al Cinghiale), which used to be our favorite dish, was a major disappointment—dry, lacking sauce, and missing the depth of flavor that once made it a standout. The lamb ragu pasta, was decent but nowhere near the caliber you’d expect from a restaurant where reservations are nearly impossible to secure. The lobster risotto, a special of the night, barely had any lobster—just a few tiny pieces, making it feel like a regular risotto rather than something special.
Overall, La Nonna still offers a beautiful setting and top-notch service, but the food has taken a noticeable step down. For a place with such a stellar reputation, we expected much more. Hopefully, this was just an off night, but given how difficult it is to get a table, it’s hard to justify the effort for a meal that felt so...
Read moreI was visiting the town and a friend of mine called the restaurante in front of me to book a table for me. It was 5:30 and he put the host on hold to ask me if 6:30 was okay. I said it was okay and he booked the table. I wait for an hour walking around in the cold to wait for the table because apparently in this restaurant food is great. However, we didn’t get the chance to prove it because when we arrived, the first host was rude and said that there was no reservation under my friend’s name. While I was talking to her, a second host appeared with a lot of attitude saying that she talked to my friend and that she told him that the only reservation available was at 8:30. We tried to speak to the manager and the coat check lady was kind and went to look for her and said she would come to speak with us. We wait for 20 minutes and she never showed up. Absolutely disappointed with the way they...
