Softea will always hold a special place in my heart. There was a time when life felt unbearably heavy. My body ached from old injuries, my career seemed over, my wife left with the kids and half my belongings, and I was drowning in self-doubt. One gray afternoon, while wandering aimlessly through Vancouver, I stumbled upon Softea. Inside, the scent of tea and tapioca filled the air, and the energy was warm and alive. Then I saw Capy the capybara handing out bubble tea samples. His goofy demeanor and earnest joy were contagious. He offered me a tiny cup of taro tea and patted his fuzzy chest as if to say, “You’ll be okay.” For the first time in years, I smiled. Before I left, Capy gently whispered in my ear: “You’ve got this.” It wasn’t much, but it was enough. In the days that followed, I kept returning to Softea. Its simple, joyful energy reminded me there was still light in the world. That spark gave me the courage to keep going, to heal, and to find my way back. Looking back, I’ll always be grateful to that little cafĂ© and the unexpected wisdom of a capybara. Sometimes, the smallest gestures can reignite your spirit.

The space is really amazing and even I, an aging and embittered old man could imagine resting his weary bones here for a moment with his trusty laptop and doing a bit of nefarious business while the evil old world trundles past outside. The drink I got was delicious although my foggy brain was overwhelmed by the plethora of choices and I might have to do some studying before I can rattle off my orders as most of the other people seemed to do. As new as it was to me, I was made to feel welcome, an old pirate in a candy land sea. The tapioca boba was fresh and chewy (I’m not completely fresh off the boat) and I was given choices about how sweet I wanted my drink. I’m looking forward to their matcha mixtures, that’s where my heart really is. Importantly, their bathroom was large, clean, and fun. I loved the art. I loved the space, the vibe, the commitment to friendliness, and whimsy. I will bring my pirate cohorts here and we will make plans to conquer the known universe.

This place is an enjoyable bubble tea stop for a number of reasons. First and foremost, for the tea. The name "SOFTEA" is presumably derived from the unique (to me at least) drink combination they offer of soft serve ice cream on top of the tea. I wish I had thought to grab a picture of our drinks before diving in, but it looked distractingly good and I forgot until it was half finished. Secondly, the motif of capybaras is cute and endearing. Third and lastly, it seemed like a good place to rest a while and they do a good job of providing a well lit space that feels clean and inviting. The younger crowd seemed to find it a good hang out location. Anyway, I'll have to go back... If not just to enjoy a tea, but to maybe snap a photo of my drink as well!

I decided to go on the grand opening day a couple hours after opening with a group of friends. I liked how nicely decorated this place is. Very earthy. There were a lot of different options and there was also Korean chicken as well. I tried the Korean chicken which was soggy and didn't have any flavor to it besides chicken. I have had the Korean chicken at Kenji's before and it was definitely more crispy and flavorful than what I had. They have different soft, serves as well, including Ube, Matcha, Vanilla and Dole whip. I ordered the strawberry Matcha with Boba and the wait time was about 10 minutes. I was disappointed in the texture of the Boba. Chewing it was a bit tough, and that might be because it was an old batch or it might've been because we went a couple hours later and it wasn't as fresh. The drink itself was good. I ordered it on 75% sweetness, which was perfect for my taste. Something I found inconvenient was that the drinks that had ice cream on top did not have any lids or even a dome lid. It makes it inconvenient because if you're not eating the ice cream right away, then it would spill all over with the open top. I am hoping that when I come back that I will have fresh Boba as well as trying the soft serve...

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is immaculate—clean, stylish, and filled with the comforting aroma of fresh tea and sweet syrup. The staff? Incredibly friendly, lightning-fast, and they genuinely care about your experience.

Now the drinks
đŸ€Ż PERFECTION. I ordered the brown sugar milk tea with boba and was instantly transported to flavor heaven. The tea was rich and smooth with just the right balance of sweetness, and the boba pearls? Chewy, warm, fresh, and absolutely addictive. You can tell they were made that day—none of that stale or overly hard stuff you get at other places.

They also have fun seasonal specials, dairy-free options, and toppings I didn’t even know I needed in my life. Every sip felt like a reward for making it through the week.

This isn’t just a boba stop—it’s a boba destination. Whether you’re a die-hard milk tea purist or an adventurous drink explorer, you’ll find something here that blows your mind. Can’t wait to come back (probably tomorrow tbh 😅).

Do yourself a favor—skip the chain stores and come here. Your taste buds...
