The Galley is a pretty well-known establishment in the city of Victorville, known for serving up fish tacos. It's easy to spot from the I-15 as it sits facing the freeway on Amargosa Rd. The prime time to visit is when they have Happy Hour or if you happen to chance upon a weekday special that you particularly like.
Happy Hour is from Monday through Friday from 3PM-5PM, but they offer all day weekday specials, too. Menu is pretty straightforward, but there are a ton of choices to choose from - plates, tacos, bowls, burritos - they even have a kids menu for the little ones.
We stuck with the fish taco choices and tried galley, Ensenada, and blackened fish styles (each one is $3.45). Tacos come prepared very simply, with the fish, pico de gallo, cabbage, cream sauce, and chipotle mayo. There's a sauce bar by the drinks where you can stock up on sauces and limes to customize your taco.
Out of the three selections, my favorite was the panko crusted (galley style) - the fish tasted the best here, probably because the outside was fried. I was still able to taste the tenderness of the fish, which went great with the crispy outside. Beer battered (Ensenada) was alright, but was a little on the drier side. Fish didn't taste as good, but it wasn't too bad. My least favorite was the blackened fish, which sounded really great but had a little too much fishy taste was on the drier side as well. For about $3.50 for each taco, I don't think they were worth the price. I'd definitely recommend dropping by on Tuesdays where you can get tacos for $1.50 (from a limited selection of choices).
Workers didn't seem too friendly or wanting to engage; however, when asked questions, the worker ringing us up was helpful. We did notice that one of the workers came around to the customers sitting around us to ask how they were doing, but didn't do the same for us - odd, but we were already almost done with the meal.
tl;dr - A decent place to grab some tacos, drinks, or even some ceviche. Decorations on the wall are really nice, and I can see this being a great place to hang out with coworkers for happy hour. Tacos were just okay for me, but I wouldn't mind coming back on a daily special day to try some...
Read moreFantastic place. Love their taco's! can hardly wait for the next visit. I would recommend the soft taco's over the crunchy. Great service, food was hot when it arrived. They got pretty busy right at lunch time (12:00 noon), so I'd recommend getting in a little early. Real good food, so I'm glad they were busy. That means they'll stick around for a while.
Went again a month later, still great food and great service! Would highly recommend anyone to get the soft taco's with panko crust on the fish. Check out the menu for pricing!
Went again and had a burrito. Stuffed!! Great flavor! Great experience! Still wonderful service and still wonderful food! Would STILL recommend this place to anyone!
Have been kept coming back and sincerely enjoy all that they have to offer! The Galley (panko) fish taco's are still a favorite! The Ensenada (beer battered) fish taco's are good too, but I keep migrating back to the Galley. Just a great taco! The soft taco's are the best! The cilantro rice and Peruvian beans...
Read moreFirst time here. I ordered a chicken plate(shown), 2 fish tacos(one breaded, one grilled), and 2 chicken tacos to go. They messed up my order and forgot the chicken tacos. I received 3 breaded fish and 1 grilled fish instead. The chicken (from chicken plate) was pretty dry and the white rice was cooked fine. The breaded fish tacos were fine, nothing really special. The grilled fish taco had an extremely small portion of fish(about the length of half the tortilla straight across), flavor was similar to the breaded fish, fine but nothing special. For the price I expected more. I might try again to see if it was a bad day for them but probably not any time soon. Would be one star but the the bartender earned an extra one, she was very friendly and welcoming with good small talk. Good...
