Let me start by saying TORI…. Weird, dark energy and extremely condescending to customers. I’ve been coming to this place for about 4 years now. I started with a pistachio latte, chrysanthemum at times and over the years moved my way towards the lavender latte with 1/2 the espresso they use and a pump of vanilla … when she came along she’d ask me EVERY MORNING if I’m aware of how many pumps of lavender is used … then it went to if I’m aware of how sweet it’s going to be. I’m a person who doesn’t sweat the small things so whatever I figured maybe she’s trying to advocate for something who knows…. Then I went on a 90 day fast on caffeine so I stopped getting the lattes and moved over to the lavender matcha which I love. I just saw the owner yesterday and ordered w her and even GOT EXTRA SWEET LAVENDER CREAM AND my order was given to me NO QUESTION NO JUDGEMENT. TORI proceeds to take my order and says “So you want it extra sweet? I said excuse me? She says yes our Matcha is already really sweet….. so I say yes If that is the case I ALWAYS LIKE MY DRINKS FROM HERE SWEEEET. She ALWAYS has a fake sweet condescending tone and look as if she is oblivious to what she is doing and each time she does this it dampers my experience here . So finally after months of dealing w her weird energy I decided to tell her that she does this EVERYTIME I come and that I am a local and a regular for years and that she does this everytime. I don’t need a health lesson when I’m grabbing a latte or matcha … it’s one thing if she were saying it bc she really wanted ppl to know but I’m here to say she’s being condescending and as a regular it’s rude and annoying. I then tell her and she says “I’m probably gonna do it again bc I’m not good with faces , I’m just making you aware that it’s gonna be really really sweet. Well sweetheart I’ve got news for you I like it sweet and for years the owners and NO OTHER CASHIER HAS EVER CARED ENOUGH TO SAY THIS. Also when she makes my drinks they don’t taste the same …. And two other women mentioned her being weird before as well. To tell me how sweet it’s going to be everytime order is INSANE ….. just imagine going somewhere and asking for extra and being told the calorie count l, fat, protein amount or anything…. cashier “Tori” if that is even her name bc I def asked her and I will make it known to management and the owner Next time… is ALWAYS WEIRD AND CONDESCENDING about the most minuscule things. Every other cashier the guy w the red hair… a vibe! The girl w the red hair super super sweet and helpful to people! The one w the dark long hair wears parts in the middle a little timid but she’s helpful and has a better way with words! They give great customer service but that one w the dark purple or blue hair n glasses kind of short …. CONDESCENDING …even after I made her aware she then whispers over to the other girls making my drinks as if I’m being rude…. be the light babes trust me you wear it better :) lastly you never know who you’re dealing with in this city so you should treat everyone the way you’d like to be treated in doing...
Read moreDrinks: I ordered a hot matcha lavender latte and while the taste was ok, the drink was SUPER sweet and lukewarm. The barista said the matcha comes pre-sweetened so the sugar level is not adjustable. I think quality matcha should never come sweetened. My friends enjoyed their pistachio cold brew and lavender latte, so maybe their coffee drinks are their strong points. I believe the drink prices are pretty fair.
Food: We ordered the smoked salmon toast, honey almond toast, and brie and apricot toast, all of which tasted good. Each order is a single slice of thickly cut toast ranging from $7 - $14. In my opinion, it's super overpriced for one slice of toast and I would not order again.
Atmosphere: The cafe is filled with beautiful plants that thrive in the floor to ceiling windows. It has a lot of plywood box seating that wraps around the windows as well, which allows for flexible seating. There are six small tables, like the ones that go over the arm of a sofa for a laptop, that you can move around. On the interior, it's not really a place to sit and work at or really even eat at unless it's a quick bite. The exterior had about three patio tables next to the parking garage side where you can sit two people at each table. Essentially, the atmosphere is good for quick chats and waiting to pick up your order, but not so much for groups looking to hang out.
Service: There were about seven people waiting outside when the cafe opened at 8 AM. The barista who opened unlocked the door and walked back to the bar without saying a word. It wasn't rude, but just not really the friendly vibes you expect from a local coffee shop. While ordering, the baristas seemed knowledgeable, but not friendly. Overall, service was ok. Nothing bad and nothing great to make it stand out.
Parking: Parking is free with 15-minute spots outside the door and additional spaces in the...
Read moreI tried it once in October and I came back twice a week ever since. I typically enjoy ordering an iced matcha latte with pistachio cream cold foam and oat milk. However, my last couple of visits left me disappointed due to poor customer service.
On a previous visit, I realized there was no oat milk in my latte after I got home, even though I ordered it. I submitted feedback through the online form since there’s no phone number available but never received a response. On November 17th, I visited again and politely mentioned this issue to ensure my order was correct this time. I wasn’t trying to place blame or request any reimbursement—just to clarify the order.
The woman taking my order, who said her name was Antsy or Nancy(black and white hair with a bang), responded by suggesting that I might’ve picked up the wrong drink. I explained that the barista specifically pointed out my drink to me, and it was the only one with cold foam on top. Her defensive tone and attempt to place blame on me felt unnecessary when I was simply trying to confirm my order.
What made the experience worse was her unprofessional behavior afterward. Instead of assisting my friend, who was next in line and the only other customer waiting, she turned to gossip with her coworker about our conversation—loudly enough that both my friend and I could hear. This was not only uncalled for but incredibly uncomfortable, especially in such a small establishment.
As a Black woman, I couldn’t help but feel that her attitude toward me was influenced by bias. The unnecessary defensiveness and blatant gossiping certainly didn’t make me feel valued as a customer. Since that visit, I’ve opted to make matcha at home instead of returning to Café Comma.
I hope this feedback helps the management address customer service training and ensure that all customers feel respected and valued...
