Sakura Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

I wish I could give a NEGATIVIE 5-star review. Customer Service is awful. Have been to the one Shore Dr and Hampton Rd, and it’s night and day. PLEASE do not go to this place.

I wanted to take my son out for some father-son time. We arrived and seated right after another customer and was given the menu and took our drink orders. After 15 or so minutes, we are still waiting to place our order while the customer who came in right before us were able to place their orders and receive their food. I literally had to get up and walk to the front and ask if someone could please take our order. Finally, he came over to take our orders for miso soup, rolls, and sushi. After over 30 mins, our soup came. I made a statement “looks like you guys are busy tonight.” There are only 2 other tables occupied. I told him when he bring our food out if he could please bring our check out also. Instead of “sorry for the delay”, he got super defensive and said if I don’t like the service, I can leave. I did not feed into his rude comments/gesture and said, "Please bring our food out when you can." He responded “you leave now” As embarrassed as I was, I asked to speak to the manager, and he pulled out a chair and sat down and said," What do you want? " I asked if he was the manager, and he kept going on. My son and I got up and left.

I've never been kicked out of a restaurant before, especially with my son. This place customer service has the most horrific experience. They give a bad name to the restaurant name “Surka” and should change their name. Will never go back here ever again even if they give out food for free....

I visited this Sakura for the first time because it’s in the neighborhood that I just moved to. I called my order in over the phone . when I went to pick up my food, I took it to the car and I realized that one of the dishes that I ordered, which was shrimp tempura looked half done. It wasn’t deep fried and I took the shrimp tempura back into the restaurant, and I politely asked the staff to deep fry it it tasted u cooked. the lady who worked there took it to the kitchen however, the man who work behind the counter who’s picture Ihave attached. This young man started cursing at me and told me if I didn’t like it for me to get out and threatened to Throw me out .there was approximately six or seven other customers in the restaurant at the time they were all Caucasian. I believe that because I was a black African-American female, the man behind the counter, thought it was OK for him to curse me out and speak to me in a disrespectful manner. Of course, I put him in his place and let him know that I’m a retired officer, and my money was given back to me. I felt that this was a racist move and that I wouldn’t recommend other customers of color to visit this restaurant. From now on, I’ll drive to the other Sakura restaurant on Lynnhaven Parkway because the food is good the atmosphere is good and the customer service is excellent. Attentive, friendly service and appetizing food to match. We started our lunch with a bowl of spicy kim chee seafood soup and a regular bowl of seafood soup; they were hot and delicious with the kim chee not being too spicy. The shrimp and krab were paired deliciously with celery and cabbage in a clear broth.

Rather than order a lunch special we ordered 4 specialty rolls (the Dragon, Kamikaze, Twin Tower, andKing Crab Ichiban). Since there were only two of us we could not finish half of the four rolls because they were quite large compared to what we've had at other sushi places. The rolls were refreshingly flavorful even with the "crab" being krab and the prices were fair compared to my favorite sushi places downtown Norfolk.

We will definitely return as a family. This visit for us was a working lunch and this seemed to be the case for others dining in with workmates aside from the 1 family we saw.

Based on the location and basic outside appearance, I did not expect such a lovely atmosphere. The decor was pleasant and clean with ample seating from the front to the back of the restaurant where there was a flat screen TV mounted high up...
