Apex Entertainment is located in the Town Center area of Virginia Beach. It would be hard to miss seeing it if you pass it along Columbus St. or Independence Blvd. You may remember this spot as being a Dick's Sporting Goods store beforehand. There are several free parking garages, and the Maroon Garage (4621 Columbus St.) is the closest garage to this place, and you can access the place without going out into the weather either if it's raining and such. My visit here was on February 8, 2025.
I've passed the place many times and have heard about them on The Hampton Roads Show. When you come inside, the place is huge. You will see lots of arcade style games as you enter. I was here with others at my job for an outing. We came to do some bowling here.
While waiting for everyone else to get here, I scoped out the place as a whole to see what they had. The first floor has the activities such as bowling, VR games, arcade style games and more. The second floor had a sports and golf simulator. That area in general seemed to be the spot for parties and such. You can also look up towards the ceiling and see what looked like a ropes course.
After scoping the place out, I came back downstairs. Not everyone was here yet, but about five minutes afterwards, everyone was here. It's great to meet up with everyone as many of us work remotely. We all went up to the bowling desk to get things going, including bowling shoes. The lane was reserved ahead of time, so it was a pretty seamless process.
It had been quite a while since I had done any bowling. Most places that are only a bowling alley have smoking available in there, and I try to avoid cigarette smoke. It was great that this was a non-smoking place. At the lanes, there was a table QR menu to order food and drinks. We did order some stuff, but it took a while as it seemed like it never got to the right person, so we ended up having to find someone who works there for help. We started our bowling game as we had a one-hour time limit based on how things are set up here. After going through a few rounds, someone finally came over to see if anyone wanted to order anything. I did get one of their burgers. Others had gotten different appetizers. I did see their big pretzel going to another lane. Boy that was a huge pretzel. Mine was the last of the food to come out, but the burger was good and juicy.
Overall, it was a good experience here. There wasn't anything that would have screamed a wow factor for me. Except for a few areas, it does seem to be more of a place for kids, especially with the arcade style games all around. The food was good, and it was great to meet up with fellow co-workers. If you are looking for something to do in the town center area when weather isn't the best, this could be an option for you as there are lots of things to...
Read moreKinda disappointing visit. Definitely not even close to a Round 1 in variety of games, let alone rhythm games.
I was told there was an SDVX machine here and I walked the place pretty throughly, didn't see one at all. Theres a Step Maniax but that's it. No Wacca, no SDVX, no Mai Mai, no Music Diver. NOTHING.
The claw machines had nothing but cheap and ugly plushies. Like low quality. The prize shop is not much better. The best prizes are probably the Pokémon card sets, but everything else is just cheap toys. (Similar to stuff from the dollar tree or a Five Below) Not a single Anime figure at the prize shop, let alone at a figure belt machine in the arcade.
VR area looked like it had Vive Pro headsets, but they were dirty. Easy way to get pink eye, the headsets do not look properly sanitized at all. But they do have soft pleather padding for the face guards. Slight updrade from stock padding.
What the kids will probably like here - ALOT of ticket games. Bottom floor is filled with ticket games, a few coin/token pushers too. Lots of activities on the top floor. Axe throwing, mini golf, virtual golf, bowling, bumper cars, etc. Which, if you are going for a family friendly vibe or a little ones birthday party this place is probably great to spend a weekend at.
This is probably the best that Virginia Beach has to offer as far as arcades go.
Personally, I will still rather drive all the way to Potomac Mills (3 hours away) for Round 1. Better games, better prize shop. Especially when dropping a few hundred bucks a visit just to play games.
I really wish there was more than 1 music/rhythm game here as I personally don't want to spend over 4k+ per game cab for home use. There seems to be no place that had these types of game cabs in the VB area. I know the machines are alot of upkeep but the upstairs area could easily hold these, away from all the younger children. This would give teens and young adults something more to do. More and more Arcades are popping up just with rhythm games as their main focus, like 'Red Note' in Las Vegas and New York. It's just not...
Read moreThis is a fun place to go if you have the money to do so. For reference, me and my husband did the go karts, ropes course, and laser tag. We also each got one drink, each having a rum and coke, and a tray of "extreme nachos" with no protein (adding protein would have made it between $18-$20 and we weren't interested in paying that much for nachos). For everything we did, we spent over $150 dollars. The nachos we sub par at best, it seems as if the cheese they use is the same cheese 7-11 uses out of their machine. And more than half the chips had nothing on them. The drink was HEAVILY overpoured and made the drink almost undrinkable. The woman and man running the counter next to the bumper cars offered us a first responder discount as my husband is an EMT, but when we went to the laser tag counter and she asked if we were military, we informed her no but he is a first responder..she told us we don't do that here. I let her know they did it twice upstairs for us (one discount for the ropes course and one discount for the go karts) she just laughed and charged us full price. Not a huge deal as we weren't expecting a discount when we arrived but it would have been nice if everyone there was on the same page. When going on the go karts, they ask you to come 10 minutes early to get ready and go over rules. Well going over the rules were a waste of time because every person riding them broke the rules. To the point another rider drifted a turn and slammed into me, causing me to crash into the barrier and jam my wrist. This was right in front of one of the workers. It seems like rules aren't monitored much because the rules for laser tag were broken too. I understand people are having fun and get ahead of themselves but I don't appreciate it when it's at the expense of my own safety. If you bring a small child here, beware. Also, if you have the ability to go on their website and make reservations I would do so. The go karts alone were almost a two hour wait but luckily we were able to do the other things...
