McAlister's Deli — Restaurant in Waco

We were at McAlister's on Waco Dr. Monday around 7 pm. We've been to this one numerous times with no problem. First one person was filling drinks for someone who was waiting on the bench and didn't see us. No problem--her back was to us. Two others went close to her and said something. One kind of "hung around" but didn't do anything. Another one kept walking back and forth like she had nothing to do, then disappeared. You could tell they totally ignored us by looking the other way, pretending they didn't see us but it was obvious. I asked my husband if we were invisible. I said this several times and never go a response. Finally someone came to the online ordering and the first one who was doing nothing immediately went over and was taking care of her. The one who was actually "working" filled the drinks and took them to the person waiting. Then she "piddled around" a little before she finally asked what we wanted. I ordered veggie chili in a bread bowl. My husband ordered a veggie spud. We finally got our order but it took a while and the place was not busy. My "chili" was in a bowl with the bread bowl on another plate. I didn't realize until I was half-way through that I had ordered veggie chili and not the soup I was given. My husband had to ask for more butter and sour cream. They had brought one pat of butter and no sour cream. This is the worse service and wrong/messed up order we have ever received. I had used my "birthday" coupon but it certainly didn't make me feel good about my birthday. I will NEVER come to this one again. I will go to the one by Baylor. I usually avoid this one because I'd rather not eat around college kids just because of the age difference (I just turned 63). I have never been so disrespectful at the...

McAlister’s Deli is one of those places that consistently delivers, and it absolutely deserves a five-star review. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is inviting—bright, clean, and comfortable, with a casual charm that makes it perfect for families, friends, or even a solo meal. The staff is always welcoming and attentive, making you feel like more than just another customer.

The menu is a standout feature. With a wide range of sandwiches, salads, soups, and spuds, there’s truly something for everyone. The quality of the ingredients shines through in every dish—the bread is always fresh, the meats and cheeses are flavorful, and the produce tastes crisp and clean. One of my personal favorites is the McAlister’s Club, stacked high and perfectly balanced. The giant baked potatoes are another must-try, generously topped and hearty enough to satisfy any appetite.

Of course, no visit is complete without their famous sweet tea. It’s perfectly brewed, refreshing, and reason enough on its own to keep coming back. The portion sizes are generous, prices are fair, and the service is quick, making it an excellent value.

Excellent food. Usually very quick. The remodel was much needed. Thanks! I have traveled extensively and eaten at many places. I have been very blessed to take pleasure in the most expensive, highest quality places and I have been forced to eat at some of the quick/kid friendly places as well! One of the most important items to me is cleanliness. If the restroom is not well stocked and clean that is a cause for concern. If the staff are not capable of keeping the customers’ most used place neat and tidy, how can they possibly handle preparing my food and getting my order delivered correctly and promptly. I also observe the host and wait staff. The hostess/greeter must be friendly and knowledgeable to win me over. The person holding this position can make or break the business. I enjoy a menu with a variety of offerings. Our family will normally get an appetizer, main course and a variety of desserts. We enjoy a sampling of items. I usually take notice of the presentation of the food and try to post pictures when possible. Our family enjoys distinctive cuisines.
