Poppa Bear Boba — Restaurant in Waco

6/20/2024 Update to Previous Review: I was excited to visit a second time again since the initial time I came when they first opened in Waco. This time, there was food options and I ordered the Com Tam/Broken Rice dish. The dish was with abundant rice and meat options. I would recommend increasing the amount of pickled veggies/cucumber side options in this dish to offset the heartiness of the meat but other than that the dish was very filling - with a large amount of food.

There's a wider amount of drink menu options now including slushes. Today, I tried a Pomegranate Slush, by itself at 50%. The Slush was refreshing on a summer day.

Enjoyed the visit and seeing the ways Poppa Bear continues to grow in Waco over time! 5 Stars on Guest Service.

——— I visited recently with friends as I was excited to see a new independent Asian owned boba shop in Waco. The owners are super friendly and I really enjoyed chatting with them and learning about their story as they just recently opened their small biz. We had their month of October buy 2 get 1 free boba drink deal.

I enjoyed the Beary Peachy specialty drink - strawberry peach green tea-with peach bits (chopped canned peach) and crystal boba. The textures were good. The 25% sweetness level was sweeter than my preference (probably due to the addition of the peach bits) however the drink flavors were refreshing.

I’d recommend stronger tea brew as the Jasmine Milk Tea and Green Tea were pretty light so you couldn’t really taste the tea flavor and tapioca boba themselves was not sweet enough. Also would recommend different logo stickers on the cups as the logo rubbed off on my hands after I finished drinking.

I’m excited to try their future Vietnamese food options. They shared they may be expanding to food in the future? Will be back to try when/if they do and am always excited for more Asian food options in...

Poppa Bear Boba is an absolute gem in Waco! From the moment you walk in, the customer service is warm and welcoming. The space is cozy, clean, and adorable! I went with a friend and we got a variety of items.

For drinks, we got the Beary Peachy and the Cookie Monster. The Beary Peachy was the perfect amount of sweet and refreshing, which was MUCH needed for this HOT day! And I liked the Cookie Monster because it felt like sipping on dessert, so yummy :)

The food we ordered was the grilled pork bowl and the egg rolls. I liked that the egg rolls were shareable and the owners said they make everything from scratch. The grilled pork was filling, flavorful and the veggies were so fresh.

The best part was the atmosphere. I like that it's not so transactional and boring like a fast food place. We ordered our items, it came out super quick and we were able to sit down and enjoy our food without feeling rushed.

The staff here is also super friendly and happy to offer recommendations or customize your order. Service was quick and smooth, even during a busy time.

I drawn to Poppa Bear Boba because the photos of delicious Vietnamese food. I ordered my favorite Vietnamese dish: Bun Tom Thit Nuong Cha Gio or Pork Bowl.

It was so DELICIOUS and very well made, I've been back to eat it several more times. It's my favorite dish because I love the pork, noodles, egg roll, shrimp, greens, and crunchy peanuts. Everything was so fresh and the flavors very authentic. The portions were also great because I always leave feeling full.

Probably the best thing about Poppa Bear Boba is the wonderful, kind family behind it. You can tell that they care about their food and drinks and establishment in general. In my opinion, this is what makes their menu so good.

When I chatted with the owners, I asked them where they go to get their Asian groceries since the only Asian Market in Waco closed down. They actually make a trip to an Asian supermarket in Austin every week to buy their ingredients. That's dedication if you ask me. I will definitely be...
