I went in and ordered over $40 worth of food around 6:30 last night. The restaurant was very busy, and in the middle of all this, they allowed the dining room cashier to go on break and made her food for her — while the dining room was full of customers waiting for their orders.
I watched as they kept taking and handing out drive-thru orders, but nothing for the dining room. They started making my food and bagging it in parts. They made the hush puppies and fries first, bagged them, and allowed them to sit — with no heat — in a bag for 20 minutes before bagging my chicken and fish.
I kept asking about my food, but the poor drive-thru girl was now running drive-thru, handling cash for both front and drive-thru, bagging all the orders herself, and getting drink refills. All this while one kid was taking out the trash, filling ice, and walking around avoiding work. When he finally did jump in to help, I watched him go straight from handling trash to food — without washing his hands.
After 35 minutes, I found out my order was only waiting on coleslaw — but the kid working the kitchen was new and didn’t know how to make a family-size slaw. So he had been “putting it off” until the girl doing everything else finally told him to make it.
A couple came up and asked for a refund because their order was wrong. The girl said they’d remake it fast and told them they had to throw the first meal away. They remade the whole order — wrong again — and the girl once again told them to throw it away. The couple insisted on a refund and finally got it.
Another gentleman came up asking about the fries that were supposed to come with his meal. He had been told 20 minutes earlier that they’d bring them out when ready. He was given cold fries, and when he asked for a refund because of it, the girl said she couldn’t do it and walked away from him.
At this point, even after my food was finally done, it was still just sitting in bags, and the girl continued working the drive-thru instead of giving me my now very cold order. Two other couples who had ordered before me were also upset. They said they had asked the girl who took our orders (before going on break) where their food was, and she said, “It’s not my problem, I’m off the clock.”
All three of us had asked several times for the manager. The girl working the front seemed to be avoiding us because we were all asking for refunds. She said, “I’m sorry, I can’t do that. My manager is outside — I told her, and she won’t come in.”
The older gentleman who also wanted a refund told her, “Either you tell her to come in, or we’re all going out to her.” That finally got her to come inside. As nicely as possible, I asked her why she was outside with all this going on. She said, “I’ve been here all day and needed to smoke.”
First of all — you’re outside smoking while all of this is going on? Why would she think that’s okay? Then she came inside, didn’t wash her hands, didn’t apologize to any of us, didn’t offer a drink or anything for the wait — nothing. All she said was, “I’m short-staffed and have all new people.”
Honestly, that makes it worse. If that’s true, then it’s even more reason she should not have been outside — she was clearly avoiding the chaos.
I believe her name was Amanda. I understand bad days, but this was ridiculous. The company lost a lot of money in refunds and wasted food. As I was leaving, another family was also asking for a refund.
Yes, the manager did give me a refund, but she said, “Your food is ready.” I said, “But it’s been sitting there in parts for 40 minutes, getting cold — are you going to remake it?” And she just acted like she didn’t hear me.
