Beautiful place. However, for a restaurant, you’re prepared to spend decent money at, they don’t have the same level of service you would expect to receive like other restaurants in the area. My husband and I had a really bad experience with the service. After ordering, the food came out for just my husband. We didn’t care at the time. It wasn’t until he had already had his food, the table was cleared, and we were still waiting on my sushi roll we complained for the extra long wait. Because the food was so delayed and we were in a time crunch, we just asked for a simple sushi roll (instead of the two rolls we ordered) and the check, because we didn’t want to waste more time at the restaurant. The server said, “I will bring your fist roll but your second roll will be brought right after.” The second roll did come out after a few minutes. We had already been at the restaurant for way too long, so at that point, it didn’t matter- we didn’t want it. The server told me the reason why my food was over 45 minutes late was because I had mentioned I had a shellfish allergy and they needed to ensure every surface was clean. Meanwhile, all the tables around us had sat after us and left before I even had my food. It was overkill. Someone made a mistake, and they blamed my shellfish allergy on their mistake. We wasted so much time at the restaurant we were excited to spend money at but once the check came and we saw they didn’t even do anything for the inconvenience and awful experience they gave us, we were floored. We left most of the sushi at the table because we needed to leave and couldn’t take it with us. It was such a waste.
I was so understanding for the wait and explained multiple times my allergy wasn’t severe to where they had to change any preparation areas/utensils. I even said that when ordering my food that they didn’t need to clean every surface for my allergy, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t ordering something with shellfish, so I swapped an ingredient in a roll that had shrimp with smoked salmon. We communicated our concerns with the staff, but nothing was done to turn our night around in a better way. We left with a very bad impression of the restaurant and will not return. Our check was over $200, so if this same experience happened somewhere else where we weren’t paying a premium for the “high-end” feel the restaurant offers, it wouldn’t be a big deal. Hope they can improve- especially if concerns are addressed while customers are at the restaurant and...
Read moreMy family and I were drawn to Song Lan for its ambience and positive reviews. We love sushi and discovering new sushi restaurants in the greater Columbus area. Quite honestly, Song Lan falls short to the hype that it gets. Yes, the atmosphere is lovely with large windows, warm lighting, and glam meets japandi aesthetic. Where Song Lan fails to thrive is its food and service. We got multiple apps, drinks, sushi rolls, and hibachi entrees,. The fancy sushi rolls were all okay! But, it wasn't amazing. Their sushi rolls are not unique. You can find these flavor combinations are many other places. Additionally, some of them felt dry. If you like deep fried sushi rolls, the rice will be hard. At this price point, there are plenty of other higher-scale sushi restaurants that serve better tasting and higher quality sushi such as Akai Hana and Yoshi! I would recommend these spots over Song Lan.
I wanted to leave a specific comment about the Salmon Skin Salad which HAD so much potential!!! The salmon skin is crispy and lovely! However, the sauce they add to the salad is overly sweet. It overpowers the umami flavors of Salmon skin. In my opinion, this totally ruins it.
The shrimp and veggie tempura was lackluster. The shrimp was dry and tough while the veggies were overcooked.
The manager for Song Lan was really kind. He was able to accommodate our party of 6 on a short notice and was able to get us a seat in a shaded area. Our initial table was on the patio as the sun was setting. Members of my family have sensitivities to the sun and cannot sit in direct sun light for extended periods of time. So, we greatly appreciated the accommodation.
However, the quality of service provided by our server was poor. We felt neglected. It took 20 minutes to get our SINGLE Sapporo beer which was canned and 30 minutes to get our cocktails. They forgot our salmon skin salad which we had to request kindly from another team member. Additionally, all of our parties food came out at different times. We rarely saw our server. They came by once towards the end. Serving is a tough job as you balance multiple tables, personalities and their requests. But, it would have been nice to have communication throughout than a half-hearted "Sorry, I neglected you" at the end.
I do think Song Lan can thrive. There are some areas that need...
Read moreI am writing about the most disappointing experience we had at your restaurant . We arrived at 4:44 tonight ( wed) . We were seated and told we should make reservations going forward. There were 10 people in the whole place. We ordered a tempura appetizer . The waitress came and we ordered 5 sushi rolls. We are bloggers who review eateries. TandTTastebuds . After taking our order the waitress then came back to the table and stated to us, “ I have to be transparent. It can take one to two hours to get your sushi rolls. “ NEVER in my whole career has it EVER taken two hours to get a meal at any of the finest restaurants anywhere in this country ! Absolutely Absurd. The tempura appetizer came . The shrimp was cold on the platter. Greasy mushy tempura! The worst. We then waited one hour for our sushi rolls. The waitress forgot which one was which so it became a guessing game as to what each roll was . Our review will reflect that. A guessing game. We ordered the lobster roll for $24.95 and we don’t even know if we got it because it looked like shrimp tempura. Neither one of us tasted one piece of lobster in that whole roll. What is that about? It was so disorganized. as we packed up our take away boxes to bring home, which was about three sushi rolls because we did not care for them, we asked the waitress if we could have a little more ginger. We had spent $119 trying your food. She said if you want more Ginger you’re gonna have to pay three dollars. Really? We spent over $120 with a tip five sushi rolls and you couldn’t give us a few pieces of ginger? That is terrible customer service. Akai Hana is the...
