Urban Meyer's Pint House has a ton of hype behind it. It's a pretty known spot around Bridge Park, and I've tried going there in 2019 when it opened but the wait was around 45 minutes so I didn't stay. We had friends visit from out of town and wanted to show them the area by walking around and eating at Pint House and then play games & drink at Pins Mechanical. Inside was absolutely packed, so we weren't surprised when we were told the wait was once again 45 minutes. We were willing to wait this time while we get drinks outside & walk around the area. We received a text in less than 5 minutes that our table was ready, so that was great! We met our server which did a great job the entire time we were there. He checked up on us, we all joked around, he was great. So that's the 3 star portion of the review. The rest was really underwhelming.
I ordered the Pint House Old Fashioned ($11), and this has got to be the sweetest tasting old fashioned I've ever had, but not in a good way. I couldn't taste any Jack Daniels. If you're ordering an Old Fashioned, you enjoy the taste, you're looking to get drunk, but most likely both. The $11 was pretty much for syrup. The bartender must've been really light handed, so I quickly decided I'll save money & save my alcoholism for somewhere else.
Someone delivered my friends their plates of Short Rib Nachos, Pepperoni Pizza, and Pasta Forno with Shrimp. I didn't get mine. Our server came up to check if everything was good, so I mentioned I didn't receive my Ahi Tuna Tacos ($17). He told me that was strange that everything should've been delivered at the same time. Within a few minutes he came back with my 4 tacos and apologized and wasn't sure why they didn't take it out simultaneously. Great dude.
I get Ahi Tuna everywhere I see it as an option the menu. I think it's delicious and I'm a huge fan. However, these were not what I expected. These were tasteless. I can clearly see the Lime Cilantro Slaw, the Avocado Crema, the tuna, but no taste to any of it. It was really strange. All I could taste was the huge Wonton Shell which was just crunchy and not sure if it overtook the taste of everything that was inside it.
My friends didn't really like their Short Rib Nachos (same problem apparently), but they did confirm the Pepperoni Pizza and the Pasta Forno with Shrimp were really good.
My recommendation is to come here with intention to watch games and drink beer, and not treat it like an upscale sports bar...
Read moreSerious front of house concerns, especially with hosting. Came in early on a Saturday night expecting a wait. Put our name in, got an 1.5 hour estimate and went to a nearby bar for a drink to wait and hang out for the last person in our party. We got a text in less than 15 minutes. Which meant I had to leave my friends, walk back to the restaurant (because they don't answer the phone) and put our name on the list again. Got another 1.5 hour estimate and went back to the bar. Got a text that our table was ready 30 minutes later. Again, not the best timing but we made it work.
When we got there, they told us there was a time limit on how long we could be at the table because there was going to be a band starting (we don't control the speed of service and it's not the most welcoming, but ok...) We were seated in the bar area (without a choice) which was packed with people who were standing up against our chairs and table, yelling in our ears and repeatedly bumped into, elbowed, hit me without acknowledgement. We had to yell at each other from across the table and constantly repeat ourselves to be heard.
Our server was doing the best that she could to attend to our table but the hosts sat her FOUR tables at the same time! Even though we were given a time limit we had to ask her to put in our appetizer order and our main order, didn't see her much and then had to ask her for the bill. Don't worry, one of the hosts came by to remind us that we needed to get out.
Our food and drinks were great but we didn't have much room on our table because we were sat in the bar area so we only ordered one of the appetizers we wanted to try. No one offered to make room on our table and when food arrived they expected us to figure it out.
This was our first visit and we were celebrating a birthday. The number of issues and lack of concern put me in a terrible mood and definitely soured what was supposed to be a lovely evening. I may go back but I will probably give them time to figure out their front of house situation.
Next time I will know that it is my responsibility to be very specific about where I want to sit and that I am willing to wait the actual estimated wait time to sit where I can enjoy my...
Read moreCan't really rate the food or the service, but the place is seriously disorganized. The hostess couldn't really tell us how long the wait would be... somewhere between 40 min and 2 hours. They were taking names on a yellow legal pad and had no real system to let people know when tables were ready (had no speaker system, no phone/text system, and the place was seriously loud, so you couldnt hear if they did call a name). We ended up leaving. Hopefully they can get their act under control and come into the 21st century of hospitality. I think they opened too soon. 2 stars generously.
Ok... after waiting several months, decided to give the place another try. We came today on a Monday for lunch over the holiday week. Got seated immediately. Draft selection was okay, and I had a Wolf's Ridge Clear Sky Daybreak which is actually one of my favorites (love the coffee infusion), BUT the beers are a bit pricey. A Yuengling draft is $5!!! Craft selections are $6.
I ordered the Ahi tacos (which is an appetizer selection) with the slaw on the side. Four tacos with generous tuna portions, but they were actually kind of bland. I asked for some Soy which I added as a drizzle which greatly improved the experience. Again, a little pricey at $15. The wife ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with fries which was average at best. Lettuce was wilted and didn't have much flavor. Fries are thick-cut steak fries which were probably the best part of the meal. Portions were generous, and we noticed many diners taking food home, although this also may be due to the relative mediocracy of the food. We decided not to try any desserts.
As for service, our server, Bri, was not very attentive. We had to flag her down several times to get refills, and otherwise only checked on us briefly once after the food was brought out.
Overall, Urban Myer's Pint house is an average dining experience at best and with relatively high pricing rates very low on the value scale. I've decided to up the rating to 3 stars for sole reason that if one is an Ohio State fan, there is plenty of ambience to take in and enjoy. We will likely not return.
Full Disclosure: We were big fans of the previous...
