Eat here the last weekend of March 2019 as the weather made it nice to sit upstairs on the rooftop. Busy downstairs and a dozen people upstairs. The server definitely needed assistance between getting drinks and food he seemed to be overwhelmed. Probable the reason service was slow but I was in no hurry. At some point, a manager jumped in for assistance along with who I thought might be an owner as he moved from looking like being a customer to offering to pour drinks and help cash out.
This was my second time dining there and I really enjoy their pizza although a bit overpriced (more on cost in a minute). I ordered a glass of Pinot although a beer fan. I wanted a change of beverage but when it arrived I thought maybe his pour levels were off. I thought of saying something but decided not to do so (see pic of wine, that is before I took a drink of it). What shocked me most was the price--$11 a glass, half glass at that. Pizza came out about 20 minutes after ordering. It was hot and good, The Standard with pepperoni. But hold onto your seat. The Standard is $16 and will feed two people, barely. Add the pepperoni for an addl $4 so $20 for a pizza for two. Wine for $11. My total before tip was $34.10. Lunch for one. Pizza lunch for one. With a $6.50 tip I left wondering what just happened. $40 at most other places might have had a different outcome. Not sure if I will make it back but why not offer something on game days or a Sat or Sun afternoon. Half price pizzas, drinks, something. Bottomline, the Pizza a is good but stop be...
Read moreAfter a long Nats games, a sign that reads "pizza and beer" will without a doubt lure you along straight to All Purpose Riverfront. Heck, even before a Nats game or on a random Monday, it will attract you.
After All Purpose's successful debut in Mt Vernon Square a few years ago, the owners decided to capitalize off of Navy Yard's development (new condos, Audi Field, splash parks, Washington Gas' new building) and open a river front restaurant.
If you frequent Yards Park, their location may seem a bit odd. It's in a condo building right across the street from the Nats Stadium. If you walk to Salt Line, you'll probably overlook it since it's right around the corner. Just follow the "pizza and beer" sign.
The space itself is beautiful. It maintains a DC vibe while adding in some riverfront decor. There's plenty of indoor seating and a bar inside that opens at 5pm for dinner. If you get there at 4pm, don't worry. The outdoor patio is open and is already serving one of the best happy hours in SE DC. Draft cider and beers are $5 and panzerottis are only $5.
If you go for dinner, pizza is what they are known for. They whip up some of the best pies in all of DC. If pizza is not your jam, don't worry. They have many other dishes to choice from including some great pastas.
Rumor has it that soon their rooftop bar will open overlooking the Anacostia River. Maybe Navy Yard IS worthy of their recent "one of the coolest neighborhoods in the...
Read moreWe went on Saturday afternoon on Memorial Day weekend. At 4p they were slow. That worked well for us. No waiting. Well, they were slow in the dining room, but they were busy on the rooftop deck. The host seated us promptly. It was difficult to get service. We waited and waited. No server. We had to approach the bartender to get service 🫤 The bartender was great (and we were not sitting at the bar. He served us our soft drinks, and the manager served us water). Finally, a server appeared. Having already reviewed the menu, we were ready to order, and we did. The kitchen was not as slow as the waitstaff. The dining room was nice and pleasant. Quiet, but rather empty. I did notice what appeared to be some sound baffles in the ceiling, so maybe when the dining room is full, it still won't be too loud. No, let's talk about the pizza. One word...scrumptious. Wow, was it delicious. Holy cow. I wanted more and more. Take note that they only offer one size, 12". Although that was enough for the two of us to share before going to a ballgame. 6 star for the food & kitchen. 3.5 star...
