Stopped by and waited out amongst the MASSIVE line on opening night. Well worth the wait.
The cheeseburger was delicious (they use higher-quality Wagyu beef, but $17 for a double cheeseburger is still beefy). NOTE a vegetarian patty option is available and sounds equally delicious.
The fries looked plain, but were surprisingly tasty: cooked well with just the right dash of salt.
The ube soft serve is small, good for one person, and includes options for rainbow sprinkles, toasted coconut flakes (recommended!), or no toppings. Each item I ordered was delicious.
I also love how simple the menu is to avoid confusion and time spent on picking something.
Prices paid: Double Patty Wagyu Burger ($17) Side of Fries ($5) Ube Soft Serve ($6)
The wait was long, but it was opening night. I was super happy for the team who obviously worked VERY hard to make the night a success 🙌 Congratulations on a successful opening!
The place is small, which I imagine is perfect for stopping by to get a quick bite in the future, as well as helping the place seem busy if popularity continues, which I hope it will. There are more seating areas (covered) out front opposite the sidewalk.
The owners are the same folks behind Purple Patch just a block away. I'm really excited more Filipino cuisine is opening up around the city. Filipinos have a rich and diverse cuisine and really stand out amongst other Asian-themed restaurants, with inspirations in Spanish food, street food, island food (pork dishes are commonly amazing), etc.
Overall, this is a nice addition not just to the neighborbood, but also to DC and the overall restaurant community, as it brings greater awareness of Filipino food culture to American...

Read moreJoia Burger, the newest addition from the incredible Patrice Cleary of Purple Patch fame, is making waves in our nation's capital, one burger at a time. This cute little burger haven is a declaration of love to her family and the community. With an ambiance that's as inviting as a backyard BBQ, Joia Burger is setting a new standard for the classic American staple.
The star of the show was the double patty Wagyu burger, an opus of American Wagyu beef so tender and flavorful, it almost melted on the tongue. This isn't just a burger; it's a masterpiece smashed into patty form, draped in American cheese like it's going to the burger prom, and adorned with chef's special sauce that's mixed with the crisp, fresh ensemble of diced lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle, all served on a cloud-like potato bun, it's a burger that could easily start a peace treaty.
But the pièce de résistance? The Ube Soft Serve with Coconut Flakes. Imagine the creamy, dreamy essence of ube, that vibrant purple yam, transformed into a soft serve so smooth, it could smooth talk its way out of a traffic ticket. Topped with coconut flakes, it's like a tropical vacation in every spoonful, a sweet escape that pairs perfectly with the savory symphony of the Wagyu burger.
Joia Burger isn't just serving food; Patrice and team are crafting experiences full of love. It's a place where every bite is a reminder that the simplest pleasures are...
