This restaurant is a few weeks old but has very significant kinks to work out. We arrived and after a short wait, were offered a table or bar seats. We chose the bar upstairs. The decor was reasonably nice. After we were seated the bartender took my wife's order of a martini. She noted that they did not have fresh lemon slices but could hunt down a dried lemon wheel and eventually provided a small side of lemon juice. After several minutes passed, another server came to the bar and informed us that she would take our food order. We ordered the garlic shrimp appetizer and the meat platter for two. We asked if any sides came with the meat platter and were informed that bulgur wheat, orzo, or mashed potatoes were available for an $8 surcharge. We chose the latter.
My wife's drink arrived and the bartender left to assist with another couple at the bar. After another 10 minutes she returned and asked if we needed anything else, and I was finally able to order a glass of wine. I received a small pour, likely all that was left in a previously opened bottle. This was notable when other patrons ordered wine and it became apparent that the bartender did not have a cork to open bottles (it was 6:30pm, so a bit strange that it just came up). After a corkscrew was eventually found, she was able to open a new bottle and then measured out significantly larger pours to the other customers. Our ""chili shrimp arrived and was passable but certainly not memorable at $18. Our side of mashed potatoes arrived not too long after, but sat in front of us for 10 minutes until the meat platter arrived. There were 2 pieces of kofta that were tasty if a little overcooked, 1 chicken thigh that was ok, two lamb chops that were close to medium but not the medium rare we had asked for, and the pre-sliced beef cut (labeled as ribeye but certainly did not resemble ribeye in any way) was medium well. This $70 platter for 2 also came with grilled asparagus (cooked appropriately), and charred carrots that were blackened on the outside but unfortunately still uncooked on the inside. By and large the meats had too much salt, but the kofta and chicken thigh were the best of the bunch. The potatoes were unfortunately cold at this point. We tried a bit of everything, but were not interested in finishing the entree. Another staff member came by and asked how our meal was and I commented that the meats were overcooked and the carrots undercooked. We also found it strange that the meat and fish platters for two not only do not come with any starch sides, but these options are also not listed anywhere on the menu.
I'm sure that the server staff were polite, but this meal did not reflect a great deal of previous experience or training. Another apparent employee who appeared to check on other guests shortly after our arrival, was dressed in a white t-shirt and soccer shorts.
The bill arrived with a line stipulating 18% gratuity had been added and another 2% staff wage had also been included. Although not mentioned by the staff (which would have been nice), it was clearly visible on the bill. All told $146 for a very disjointed and disappointing experience. I realize that it can seem hard to dine out in DC for this amount, but the wine selection, quality of service, and quality of food do not match up to the prices...
Read moreI frequently visit this area but I never had the chance to go this place. I finally got the opportunity to visit this place based on the Google reviews. However, I found the prices to be very expensive, even though the food was just average. There are other places nearby offering the same or even better quality at more reasonable prices and with a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, I noticed that many of the Google reviews were fake. After leaving the restaurant disappointed, I revisited the reviews and realized that many of them were fake. If you look closely, you'll see many accounts that have never posted a review before suddenly posting reviews for this restaurant, each praising different aspects: one for cocktails, another for the food, another for the staff, and another for the decor. It's very obvious that these are all fake. I have to say that this is a misleading establishment.
The business owner responded to my comment saying they want to get in touch with me and accused me of targeting them. They are not admitting that the reviews are fake, so I'm adding this response to my comment to prove to everyone that these are indeed fake reviews. I carefully examined the reviews and noticed that the users who commented on this restaurant also reviewed other businesses at the same moment, which is suspicious. Imagine if you had only ever reviewed two or three businesses at the exact same second in your whole life—wouldn't that seem odd? For example, these users gave five-star ratings to this restaurant and one or two other businesses all at the same time, with all reviews on their profiles made at the same minute. By checking these details, you can distinguish between fake and...
