We were seated at a 2 seat wood booth. The second we sat down, my husband and I looked at each other and said “Oh!” The booths were old and the seats were shallow, okay, we had experienced this but the backs were angled forward so we felt like we were being launched forward. We sat for an awhile, our waitress was very busy but provided excellent service and was very pleasant. We got our drink and after a bit of being extremely uncomfortable and seeing there were three empty 4 seat booths, I got up and asked the hostess if we could move over to one of those tables if they weren’t spoken for, for a reservation. She gave me a “put out” rude look and said, when they got caught up she’d clean the table. I know by her facial expression and tone, she had no intention of trying to make us more comfortable. We get our salad eat that, still in a launched forward position and my back is starting to hurt. The kind waitress picks up our salad plates and a few minutes later brings our food. There is no way I was going eat dinner in this seat. When she brought our food, she asked if there was anything else and I told her I knew she was busy, but could we move over to this booth. I explained why and she said yes they are old from the 1930’s, let me grab a rag and wipe it down for you. Getting the rag and wiping it down took all of 30-40 seconds. She offered, but we moved our plates and glasses over. The ever so rude hostess that couldn’t be troubled to take 30-40 seconds to make 2 customers comfortable just sealed the deal that that was our first and last time dining at the Windmill. Worst birthday dining...
Read moreA group of us celebrated the 50th wedding anniversary of my brother and his wife at this wonderful restaurant. We were camping in the area and decided to have our celebratory meal here. We didn't have any appetizers and went right to the soup and salad. Four of us had a very appetizing salads and the other two had the vegetable beef soup. The salads were yummy and the soup outstanding. The broth in the soup had a little extra spice kick to it with big chunks of beef. For the main entrees one had the steak burger, one had fettuccine primavera, two of us had the 8 oz. top sirloin steak, and one had the ribeye steak. Those of us that had steak found it broiled so well to perfection. It was melt in your mouth tender and juicy, so easy to cut. My wife enjoyed the fettuccine primavera, and my cousin thoroughly enjoyed his steak burger. I had the garlic parmesan fries with my steak and they were delicious. If you are looking for an inexpensive meal, this is not the place for you. If, however, you are looking for a very tasteful meal in a great atmosphere with great service by some of the best people around, this is the place. The staff was very nice and know their menu. I don't think our server lost her smile all night long. For our special family celebration this was a great choice. One last thing. We didn't partake in the desserts, but were told their homemade pies are from scratch....

Christmas Day we went for lunch at noon, unaware that it had changed hands.Big mistake. They had two offerings: prime rib with mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, stuffing, and pumpkin pie, think it was $35.95.Second meal was ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie.$29.95. When the meal arrived,it was c o l d. Lumpy potatoes,NO GRAVY,no butter, the green bean casserole had lumps, beans were hard, and HOW DO YOU RUIN A BEAN CASSEROLE???MY 5 year-old could have done better. The wait staff is the same lovely young woman who has worked there for a long time, and I know she would not have served the meal had she been aware of how bad it was.The meat was the only thing we ate,and left most of the meal on our plate. And the pie looked (and tasted) suspiciously as if it had come from a box. Sad to report all this, as it's been our very favorite since the late 1960's.We have birthdays and anniversaries coming up this month, and for the first time ever, we won't be celebrating at The Windmill. The owner is pleasant and friendly, but if he doesn't do something drastic, I predict he won't be in...
