Visited Reyna's because I was in the mood for some brisket. There is plenty of parking and the place is roomy. I was very disappointed in the sticky table. Change out your cleaning rags guys. Service was excellent. The young lady, "Milinda" at the register was excellent and patiently explained our choices as well made suggestions. In the end we decided on the Tex-Mex bowl which consisted of brisket, beans, and rice on a large bed of lettuce. We also ordered a 2 meat platter, which consisted of brisket, pulled pork, a side of macaroni, and mashed potatoes. The order along with drinks was about 34 dollars.
The brisket and pulled pork was moist and well cooked and seasoned. The beans and rice on the Tex Mex bowl were cold. I forgot my saw at home but that wasn't a pound of brisket on there guys. The beans were undercooked for my taste, and the lettuce bed was overwhelming and had become soggy.
The mashed potatoes and macaroni had developed crust as if they had been sitting for some time and were not edible. In the end the best part of the meal aside from the brisket were the slices of bread that accompanied the order.
We left unsatisfied and disappointed with the food. We did not complain because it seemed to us the macaroni and mashed potatoes had been sitting in serving cups all day and would have been replaced with the same. In short the food looked pre prepared ready to be sold vs served as sold.
I cannot recommend Reynas as a place for barbecue due to the price vs quality of food.
Come on guys you...
Read moreBBQ was not on the radar that day but this location was super conveniently located when we began searching for a dinner spot. Located on the frontage road in Weslaco and is very easy to access. Immediately walking in you are greeted by friendly staff and a very clean space. The menu is highly visible and has a good variety of items. Traditional bbq items are on the menu and some non-bbq items like "salad" is available. But seriously, the menu is prominently displayed and the friendly staff is ready to serve. The dining area was very clean and there were several large flat-screen TV'S hung all-around all playing different sporting events. We ordered combo plates that included 1 meat and two sides. Chicken, brisket, corn on the cob, potato salad, and macaroni and cheese was ordered. It was brought out in a timely manner and again server was super nice and friendly. The only blemish that this meal had was the amount of smoke flavor that the meats lacked and the portion size was a bit small. Portion size can be due to the current economic demands and the supply chain struggling to meet the demands on beef and chicken for restaurants. Other than that we were glad we popped in that evening. Just remembered, we ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer as well. Very crispy and hot with...
Read moreMy wife and I went today expecting great BBQ. The staff is awesome, I have to say that first. The facility is really nicely done as well. The only thing I didn't like is the allowed a big German Shepard to come in with some military folks.
So it seems way over priced for sliced brisket and chicken plate, about 14.00 per person. The sides are extremely small portions compared to other BBQ places we've been to, my wife had potato salad and coleslaw. I had creamed corn and potato salad. So let's start with the meats, the brisket had very little smoke flavoring and was a little undercooked. The chicken was ok but cood have been better with a little more seasoning. The sides need some work except for the cream corn it was fair. We spent 28.00 for lunch and we threw most of our food away. I guess when we are in the valley we should stick with Mexican food.
I have been to many BBQ restaurants in the last 10 years like Killens, Black's, Terry Black's, Spring Creek, and Rudy's BBQ. I go to North Carolina quite a bit and always have their sweet vinegar based BBQ. I don't know if there's a difference with the way BBQ is made down here in the valley but after we were done here we went to Rudy's in McAllen, what a...
