I don’t usually make posts like this, but I feel it’s necessary to address something I witnessed today. While dining in, I observed an interaction at the front counter where an employee treated a Hispanic customer very rudely. It was clear that English was not her first language, but that does not excuse aggressive behavior from an employee under any circumstances—especially in a country as diverse as the United States, where people from all backgrounds contribute to our communities.
While I don’t know the exact details of their interaction, I feel compelled to speak up because I experienced rude behavior from the same employee. I spoke loudly and clearly, knowing exactly what I wanted to order. Despite this, the employee—who seemed distracted by their phone, AirPods, and possibly a phone call—ignored me and acted as though I was the one at fault. This level of unprofessionalism left me feeling disrespected.
As someone who is also a person of color, I feel a deep sense of shame over how this employee treated others, particularly someone who may already face challenges communicating in English. Ironically, the employee’s own accent suggests they might have had similar experiences themselves. This makes their behavior even more disappointing.
I urge management to address this situation promptly. Whether through retraining or disciplinary action, this kind of behavior should not be tolerated. Customers deserve to be treated with respect and professionalism, regardless of their background or...
