BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANT: EVERYTHING ELSE PAR AT BEST for the area.
I ate this restaurant on Tuesday, September 9th. As a devoted patron of Adelina Italian, I arrived at its sister establishment, Adelina Prime, with considerable anticipation for my birthday celebration. Adelina Italian has consistently set a benchmark for exceptional dining, distinguished by its impeccable service, culinary precision, and a truly welcoming ambiance. My numerous return visits are a testament to the high standard of hospitality I have come to associate with the brand.
Regrettably, my experience at Adelina Prime proved to be a marked departure from these expectations. While the restaurant's decor is undeniably exquisite, its "soft product"—the caliber of service and hospitality—was profoundly lacking. My party felt largely neglected throughout the duration of our two-hour meal, with our water glasses attended to only once. While the food had great flavors, the portion sizes, a notable point of contrast, were disappointingly diminutive. This in comparison with other steak houses in the neighborhood.
The most egregious oversight, however, was the failure to acknowledge my birthday. Despite the occasion being noted upon our arrival, no celebratory gesture was extended. When I discreetly inquired about this at the meal's conclusion (not wanting a full dessert), our server returned with only a single lit candle, which was handed to me without any accompaniment. I was left to hold the candle as hot wax dripped onto my fingers, an unceremonious and disheartening conclusion to what should have been a special occasion.
Such a profound lack of attention to detail is wholly unacceptable for an establishment that commands a premium and positions itself in this market. While the food was good, the nuanced gestures that elevate a dining experience were conspicuously absent, a considerable letdown given the exemplary quality I have come to expect from the...
Read moreThe worst customer service I’ve experienced in Chicago. I love trying new restaurants in the city and was really excited to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday at Adalina Prime. Unfortunately, we sat for over an hour and never even ate a single bite of food.
I had reserved a table in the dining room for a Friday night at 8:15pm. When we arrived, we were seated in the atrium instead—essentially outdoors and not what I booked. I asked to be moved to the dining room, and the manager said it would be no problem, just a 15-minute wait. Our server checked in every 15 minutes assuring us it would be “soon,” but nothing ever changed.
Meanwhile, the atrium table was so cramped that waiters and guests repeatedly bumped into my chair and rubbed against me as they squeezed by. After an hour, we asked the manager for an update, and he simply told us there hadn’t been a two-top available in the dining room so we need to keep waiting—no apology, no offer of an appetizer, nothing to acknowledge the situation. At that point it was almost 9:30pm and we told him we were leaving.
Two managers followed us outside trying to convince us to come back in and said they would comp our meal. Strangely, they hadn’t had a table for us during the entire hour we waited, so I’m not sure how that would have worked. Instead, we went to Gibson’s Italia and had a fantastic dinner (highly recommend Gibson’s Italia, Fioretta, or Bavette’s for a real fine-dining experience).
We also emailed the general manager, Neal, with a detailed account of the evening and have yet to receive a response. The lack of professionalism and service at Adalina Prime makes it clear they’re more interested in cultivating a “sceney” vibe than delivering true hospitality. Unless you pull up in a Lamborghini, don’t expect to be treated with the respect you’d get at any other high-end...
Read more(Update asked me to reach out via email and has stopped responding) We had high hopes for Adalina Prime, but unfortunately, the experience fell flat on almost every level. From the moment we sat down, the atmosphere felt off. The music was way too loud, making it nearly impossible to have a normal conversation. The layout of the restaurant was strange and lacked any sense of intimacy — not at all what you'd expect from a place that markets itself as upscale. Service was another major letdown. It felt like our server barely checked on us throughout the meal. Meanwhile, a server from another table kept walking so close to us that we had their backside in our faces for a good portion of the evening — completely ruining any chance at a comfortable dining experience. When we were finally asked how the meal was, I gave an honest answer about our disappointment — but the server didn’t really inquire further or seem to care. No apology, no follow-up, no effort to make it right. It just added to the feeling that everything here was uninspired and poorly executed. Our steak was extremely overcooked, and the food overall lacked any real flavor or creativity. Honestly, don’t waste your time or money. Regular Adalina is ten times better in every way — food, service, and ambiance. And if you're looking for a high-end experience that actually delivers, Fioretta in the neighborhood is on a whole different level. Adalina Prime completely missed the mark for us. We won’t...
