I’ll start w the service. The service was fast, and the server was kind.

The atmosphere is old and disheveled. Men’s washroom never seems to have any hand soap (ever), but they do have hand sanitizer on the table, which is not the same.

Now the food. … So bad. I ordered a carne asada burrito that was very fatty. More than half of the protein in my burrito was cut up fat. Please. If I’m paying between 15-20$ for a meal, I would hope for better quality. The sour cream in the torta was very watered down, it made my torta extremely soggy. The rice and beans were garbage. Straight up hard rice in every bite. I know for a fact the rice and beans were old. Again, if I’m paying 15-20 for a plate, I shouldn’t get week-old sides.

The pitiful lettuce and tomato on the side was funny to me, considering I ordered a burrito. Why not put it inside the burrito? Lol.

My partner ordered a chicken milanesa Torta which was okay. Chicken was a bit crispy on the edges, but he enjoyed it. His rice and beans were bad as well.

Overall, 3/5, ONLY for friendly service. My server did ask me if I wanted a box for my burrito, which I politely declined. She also asked me if I would like something else, to which I said no. My appetite...

This place is open late night and their tacos are decent.

The one star is to highlight one recent experience I had at this place.

I ordered a steak dinner and was served that. The steak was chewy and I was struggling with the chewiness of it. When the friendly waitress came around to ask if everything was good, I mentioned that to her.

She went to the kitchen to check something and came back and said to me “This is fresh steak we cut today, please try it again” and I pointed out that this is inedible due to the chewiness and she said “Try it again, it’s fresh” and “I can offer you a taco if you’d like”. I respectfully declined the unnecessary taco offer. There was no apologies and no replacements/improvements.

I was just surprised at the lack of care with which this was handled, knowing quite well that the customer is a frequent customer that tips well. I thanked them, paid for the steak and left the steak on the table, went straight to McDonald’s and downed 2 burgers.

I will keep this place as an option but it will be my very last option for late night food. I would caution others to be careful with ordering meat dishes here as you might be in for a surprise.

I would still recommend...

I’ve been to Coyote Restaurant in Pilsen several times, and while the food is usually great when dining in, our recent experience with takeout was extremely disappointing. We placed an order for over $90, expecting the same quality, but what we received was undercooked, oily, and inedible. We specifically requested the food to be cooked well, but it was far from it.

When I called to share our concerns, the person who answered seemed confused and hesitant to even acknowledge that they worked there. The level of customer service was just as disappointing as the food. I believe in supporting local businesses, but when the quality and service drop like this, it’s hard to justify returning.

Running a small business requires consistency, especially during busy hours. If your team struggles to maintain food quality when things get busy, that’s an internal issue that needs to be addressed—not something customers should have to suffer through.

Sadly, the entire order ended up in the trash because it was just drenched in oil and completely undercooked. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and works on improving its food consistency and customer service, especially for...

Having had a dear Uncle and Aunt... Forest William Junior (and his wife, Eleanor) live in New Mexico for years... I grew VERY FOND of authentic Mexican food. Anywhere and everywhere, I could find it!! And, generally: the HOTTER? the Better! So, I've got years of experience with all things Mexican here. handmade or not. Good. Or, not. And THIS version of steak and eggs, honestly looks like a hot-mess. But it's heavenly!!. Oiginally ordered it as backup, but now, i look for it on purpose! Lol lol... And please don't get me started on hot sauce. (Tabasco. I'm looking at you!!!) We always have a bottle of original and jalapeño, on hand. They're used so liberally, we go through bottles like they're on fire... lol lol. Bad pun, intended But. THIS dish??? I Srsly added nothing. Not 1 drop. Bcos it was SO GOOD on its own. I couldn't improve it. And I've had it twice. Great job! Bueno! Another, great local place. You can't go wrong. 🙏🙏🙏🤗 And I've covered half the menu so far!... Thanks, Coyote's! I'm so glad we finally met. Willow N

Definitely an authentic neighborhood restaurant that has withstood the test of time. If you're looking for authentic mexican style food at a good price then this is the place to go. The salsa is hot as well which is great because most mexican style restaurants have opted for low spice salsa. They have breakfast specials Monday- Friday from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. (check the photos of the menu to make sure). It is a small, cozy place so probably not best for big groups unless all of you want your food to go. The options are plentiful and they give you a choice of Corn (Maiz) or Flower (Harina) tortillas which is AHmazing because corn tortillas are the way to go. Basically, good mexican food lives at this hole-in-the wall restaurant. And just wait till see their ice cream selections. I recommend you get two scoops of ice cream.
