No pos wow! I really don't understand what all the hype is about with this place! Let me break it down: Atmosphere: The music was WAY too loud, it was hard to have a conversation. People go out to dinner to chat and enjoy their company... if you want to hear ear pulsing music, you go to a bar or club. Service: Worst part of the whole experience! The 'hostess' was rude and not friendly at all! A couple of her colleagues redeemed her rude actions, so that was a plus. Our server/waiter however... SUPER rude and uninterested in his role. With the eye rolls and annoyed turn arounds while leaving our table, he was making it VERY hard for me not to say something to the owner (who by the way was ALSO standing there with a 'I hate this place' look). Every time the server came to bring us something, he crossed in front of us and didn't even say excuse me. I'll give him props for ONE thing though, he brought us napkins without us asking 👏 When it came time for the check, he just put it in front of me, walked away and didn't say a word. The gentleman who was refilling our water spilled the water all over my cousin's hand and plate, and didn't even apologize! Food: Now, for my thoughts on the hyped up food... will not go back! Mediocre flavors for the price! The arrachera is supposed to be the 'most delicious' in Chicago... NOT! my husband has prepared us much more flavorful arrachera at home! The 'charro' beans (which did not look or taste like frijoles charros) tasted like they were from a can! So gross! The chicken and the quesadillas Raul were good, I'll give them that! The Tortillas were ok. Typically restaurants offer the birthday person a complimentary dessert. Our server asked if we were celebrating a birthday, which we were. They did the nice singing of the mañanitas and brought out a plate with a slice of 3 leches cake and some flan. Tres leches was mediocre but the flan was good. When we looked at the bill we saw we were charged for the dessert! Uhm... WTH! He asked US about the birthday, we didn't ask for the additional charge! They should let people know they will be charged for the treat, especially since it's not that good. Try for yourself, but this place did not stand up to the...
Read moreDined here Saturday 6-10-2023. First impression, the place is very narrow and the tables are plentiful but close to each other, My date wanted to sit in the patio area but the chair I would have sat in was already backed against the other tables chair. I would have been very uncomfortable. Second thing that I disliked was the fact that they allowed street peddlers to come into the restaurant and sell led roses and whatever else they had to sell. I am all about community and looking out for your people but having people off the street walk in and sell their products while you dine is very distasteful in my opinion. I am here to enjoy the company of my date not be haggled or bothered by someone selling things that I don’t need. 3rd when we initially walked in we waited as there was no host/hostess at the booth, there is also no sign to tell you that you can seat yourself or for you to wait to be seated, when the hostess came she barely greeted us, then her personal cell phone rang and she answered it and held s conversation with whomever was ok the other end for a couple of minutes before we get seated. When we were seated there was water and chips and salsa already at the table. I thought that was kind of odd. I asked for new stuff. Our waiter was great, no complaints there, I wish the shrimp skewers had some seasoning instead of being immersed in tomato sauce but nonetheless I enjoyed it. My date had the steak tacos and the cheese quesadillas and said she enjoyed that as well. The place is byob and that makes it all the worth while. Our chips and salsa stayed reloaded with asking, so did the water. Our waiter was definitely attentive any time I turned around he was there like we were his only table. I will tell you that there is a bit of a language barrier but there is always someone around to translate. The music was inconsistent, they played pandora stations including the commercials. The phone kept disconnecting from the Bluetooth speaker as well making it hard to...
Read moreI recently enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Cantón Regio in Chicago with my girlfriend and a lovely couple who have become great friends. From the moment we entered, we were greeted by the vibrant decor and warm atmosphere, which instantly set the tone for a wonderful midday meal.
The ambiance was lively yet relaxed, making it the perfect spot for a casual lunch with friends. We were quickly seated by the friendly staff, who were eager to help us navigate the menu filled with enticing options.
We decided to start with some appetizers, choosing the ceviche, which turned out to be a refreshing choice. The fish was incredibly fresh, marinated to perfection with zesty lime and complemented by crisp vegetables and cilantro. It was the ideal start to our meal and sparked excitement for what was to come.
For our main courses, we opted for a variety of tacos. Each taco was a delightful surprise—full of flavor and served on freshly made tortillas. The carne asada was tender and smoky, while the al pastor offered a delicious blend of sweetness and spice. My girlfriend and her friends also enjoyed a vegetarian taco that was colorful and packed with flavor.
As we savored our meals, the lively atmosphere around us only enhanced our experience. We shared laughter and stories, enjoying each other’s company in this delightful setting. The margaritas were a highlight as well—refreshing and perfectly balanced, they paired beautifully with our meals.
To wrap up our lunch, we couldn’t resist trying the flan. It was creamy and rich, a perfect sweet note to end our dining adventure.
Cantón Regio exceeded our expectations not only with its fantastic food but also with the inviting atmosphere that made our lunch feel special. I left feeling satisfied and happy, looking forward to returning for another meal. If you’re searching for a place to enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine in a warm, friendly environment, I highly recommend Cantón Regio. It’s a wonderful spot for creating memorable moments...
