My parents happen to be friends with the owner, so they had already had the luxury of trying this establishment without me(how could they?)
We got quite a bit of food, including their empanadas, sandwiches, and daily specials plates. Not a single item was under-delivered.
The empanadas were a great price for the portion, let alone the taste. Personally, I prefer beef to chicken, but the chicken empanada had me licking my fingers.
I ordered the lechón sandwich, and it honestly reminded me of the lechón my family would make on Thanksgiving that tends to be the center piece of the meal. The only reason the lechón sandwich is not pictured is because it did not last long in front of me.
The specials, a plate of lechón with rice and the canoa, we're absolutely amazing as well. The canoa was a plátano filled with ground beef and cheese(my mouth is watering writing this) and it was beyond delicious. The lechón with rice, a genuine classic, was on a tier of its own.
Pictured is the Don Pedro scramble sandwich, consisting of cheese, egg, tomatoes, and ropa vieja(shredded meat).
De Borincuba has a small menu, but each item has been perfectly mastered and fully delivers a full blend of heritage and flavor with each bite, coupled with the homely feel of the staff and cozy feel of the FOH. A perfect selection of dishes, and their coffee is no joke either.

Read moreInspired by a NYTImes review of a Bronx restaurant that serves incredible pork, I did a search on "lechon" and came up with this 2-1/2-month-old restaurant. Thank you Google reviewers!
A bit past noon, we walked into a nearly empty dining room. It was immediately filled by the warm hospitality of two women who greeted us like long-lost relatives. They sat us down, took us through the menu, made a couple of recommendations, then got to cooking.
The food: piping hot, huge portions, very flavorful. My wife loved the Puerto Rican chicken stew; I had the same reaction to my roast pork sandwich. The only thing we finished were the empanadas--they were simply too good to leave any behind. Our gracious hosts treated us to a dessert of powdered chips and a homemade guava dipping sauce--fabulous!
Service: attentive. Value: we took home as much...
