How can a place that names itself Do-Rite Do-Wrong? Lame puns aside I noticed this place and decided to stop by for lunch. I've had chicken & waffles, but Chicken & Donuts? Sorry to say, but in the end this place perfectly encapsulates why you don't put those two together.
Inside it's small & quaint. Wooden floors, wooden walls, wooden chairs, the toilet is probably wood as well (and probably has a wooden motorcycle in the corner for a reason only the hippest of hipsters would know.) Tangents aside, the cashiers were nice and energetic. They happily took my order of a Pistachio donut, Vera Cruz breakfast sandwich, orange juice and a Sweet Heat sandwich for $22. The price when she rang me up literally made me do a double take. I mean, what was I buying here?
The Pistachio donut was literally the best donut I've ever had in years, it seems almost worth the $3 plus tax that was spent on it. The donut was pretty big, had ample amounts of frosting and pistachios. Do be warned it was pretty darn sweet. So if super sweet things aren't in your palate, stay away from here because that level of sweetness is consistent here.
The Sweet Heat was fried chicken with a glazed donut for bread with maple aioli. It honestly looked terrible when they handed it to me. Everything on it seemed to be rushed and undercooked which is odd since the place wasnt busy at all. The donut was too soft and fell apart, the chicken breading was watery thin (at first I thought it was baked not fried chicken!), and the super sweet maple aioli which looked like chocolate pudding just completed this disaster of a sugary mess. If anything says you don't mix donuts and chicken this is it!
The Vera Cruz fared better. I thought it would've included chicken, but you have to ask for it so mine just had eggs. The eggs were pretty undercooked making it simultaneously super fluffy and runny. There was also way too much avacado which overpowered everything. After a couple of bites I just threw out all the avacado and it became a much tolerable sandwich.
Overall, I'd come here just for the donuts (which are amazing) and chicken only (no sandwiches) since it seems anything outside of that range has some kinks to work out or just falls flat entirely. For those that work with me, guess what we're having for donuts...
Read moreThree part mixed review on a couple of different levels: It's complicated because their service is excellent. The staff is very friendly and pleasant, and served me with a smile. Very warm and easy going. BUT, their products are not so good. Their maple Chai donut was so so ok. Nothing to bark about. It was fairly fresh. Their coconut creme donut, however, was a bit tastier and fresher. VERY light, fluffy and creamy. Why I give this store a poor grade as far as their products was the EXTREME lack of choices to choose from. They only had like six different donut selections. And this was around 12 noon, a time when MOST donut places MAKE their noon time donuts! I can understand a prime sell-out time, but I chose a time to go to when I KNEW they would be baking fresh donuts. And they had NOTHING there practically. They had ample drinks to choose from, and a lot of sandwiches and stuff, but that's about it. Another reason why I only give this location three stars, is because the back (where the washrooms are located), are not disability friendly). If you have a walker or a wheelchair, you're going to have a fairly hard time getting back there. There's a fair amount of stuff to navigate to get past to in order to get to the washrooms back. And it's fairly difficult (think 75% difficult) to get back there. Up front, where the dining tables are located, however, it's ok. It's fairly spacious. It's a small location. If you have a walker or wheelchair, you may want to visit a different Do Rite's donuts that has a different setup, as far as washrooms. But this location really didn't have a great donut selection anyway. I hate to say that, but the service was very good, The employees were wonderful. Five stars for them, but three stars for their...
Read moreI placed an online order and received a text when my order might be ready. I didn't really pay attention to the decor. There are seats for dine-in. The colorful display of donuts caught my attention more than anything. Everything looked so good!
I ordered 4 donuts and a large coffee, not bad for the quality and unique flavors they offer. I was a little underwhelmed when I tried the donuts, though. My favorite was the Buttermilk old-fashioned. It had a slight crisp on some of the outer parts, and the inside was soft and cakey. The sweetness was perfect. I'd order it again and again. The glazed was good. I'd order it again. I was disappointed in the fritter. It tasted pretty average. I think i just had higher hopes for it. The cream on the cheese Danish was delicious. It was a bit messy, and I think it needs to be packed differently than the other donuts. The cream was slathered all over the inside of my bag and had gotten on the other donuts. The Danish part was just ok. I wouldn't get it again if I'm not dining in. It was just too messy. My biggest complaint was the coffee. I was so disappointed. I couldn't even finish it. It was bland, and I could not taste the vanilla flavor that I paid extra for. I won't get it again.
I will be back to try their other donut flavors and maybe a chicken sandwich one day. They close kinda early, so you have to catch them for an earlier lunch or eat a chicken sandwich for breakfast. Parking is paid street parking. If you order ahead and just run in for your order, you should be fine with not paying....
