Well, we've heard so much about Forno Russo so maybe we went in with high expectations. I was hoping we had finally found the pizzeria that uses the harder to make sourdough, which is quite rare to find in cities. Well, they don't, but that's not why they're 3. Spacca Napoli doesn't use sourdough and I gave them 5. The thing is, while the sauce tastes great and the dough is OK, the cheese really was tasteless. Even the Buffala cheese. The first red flag was the Burrata. It felt like it was fake Burrata or something. Felt like it was Wisconsin cow Burrata. I also realize we went on the single busiest hour of the whole week, but we waited an abnormally long time to have our two pies made, and a similar long time to have our simple order taken. Finally, the dessert was tragically bad. Whereas Spacca Napoli had probably the best Gelato we've ever had in the city, Forno's Pistachio Ice cream was just sugar, sugar and more sugar. You'll struggle to even recognize the taste of ice cream because all you'll know is that it's extremely sweet. They even added powdered sugar on top of the already sweet Nutella pie. Unfortunately, we aren't just disappointed because the place turned out to be another overrated restaurant, but because it turned out to be worse than several mediocre options we've been to as well. So far, San Matteo in NYC remains to be the only pizzeria in the US that reliably uses sourdough and they even go through the lengths of using water imported from Napoli to mix the dough as the electrolytes and minerals affect the taste of the triple fermented dough. But again, Forno needs to first fix their cheese problem before fixing the dessert and wait...

We haven't been inside for a meal (and probably never will) but my experience is with pick up. We do not live in the area but had heard great things about this place in terms of gluten free Neapolitan style pizza. We ordered online and set a pick up time for 2 hours later. My experience ordering gluten free stuff is that often there is a problem and you have to give some extra time. We arrived at the stated pick up time and the food was not ready. We were informed that gluten free would be 10 more minutes. I am guessing that they were made incorrectly first but can't confirm that because of the rest of the experience. After waiting in the car for 15 minutes, my husband went in again to ask about the food. The person, who I am assuming to be the owner or manager, stormed out of the kitchen and proceeded to get in a yelling match with my husband as he gave him the pizzas. As for the gluten free pizza, it was alright. Gluten free crust often lacks flavor so I am not surprised by something that is bland or chewy. The best description I can give is a cracker without salt. The toppings were good on one and ok on the others. I would say the alright ones lacked seasoning. The one that I thought was better had prosciutto on it so the meat gave a lot of flavor. In the end, the experience with take out was unfortunate enough that I wouldn't go to dine in. The regular style pizzas may be better but I did not have them. For reference, I am not celiac but my husband is. I eat gluten free when I am with him because it simplifies the process for the restaurants rather than trying to remember which person...

Terrible Customer Service. It was the day before Memorial Day. I called to make a reservation for my partner and I later that evening. The Forno Rosso Employee informed me that they do not take reservations for two people. Understandable. I informed the Forno Rosso Employee when we were thinking of coming in which was 7:45pm. They close at 9pm and no where online is it written anywhere otherwise. The employee says thats fine and they should not be too busy. They then followed up with “try to come early because we want to close early tonight”. I asked what time will they be closing and he reports that “MAYBE” 8:30pm but they will still be able to serve us. We were 30 mins away but decided to get there quickly to be there to get our pizza and be on our way. After all we were told they still will serve us. We arrive at 7:45pm and as we are approaching the front entrance a Forno Rosso Employee coming back from the patio section turns us away saying that they are already closed. We see couples, friends and families inside and outside restaurant still full and we are turned away after being told specifically we would be served. It is very sad because I wanted to avoid this by asking when they close to which I was told they would just like to close at 8:30pm but that was not for sure. Again there was no adjustment of hours updated on google or on their website or social medias. This is shameful especially in a busy city. After years of going here with friends and family we will not be returning. I expected not even excellent customer service just basic professionalism and they were unable to...

Enjoyed a fantastic meal in the West Loop. Thin crust Neapolitan-style pizza, cooked in a wood burning oven for that perfect charred crust. Locally sourced ingredients and toppings. Started with octopus carpaccio, thinly sliced with arugula in a lemon vinaigrette. Light choice and a great start on a hot summer evening. Wood-fired meatballs were served with warm toast and a savory red sauce. My wife and I shared two pizzas. Each is a good size for one person. She ordered the Caputo Cup winning Datterino, with mozzarella di bufala and ciliegne di bufala. I went for more protein with the Tre Carne, incredible local sausage, hot sopressata and speck. We saved a slice each for later to leave room for dessert, and we’re glad we did. Tiramisu was as good as we’d had most anywhere. Customer service was as good as the food. Upon learning it was our first time there, Rich, the owner, introduced himself and told us to save room for the tiramisu as it was a new presentation. He also brought us limoncellos to go with our dessert. A family owned and family-friendly restaurant, we’re definitely returning and making Forno Rosso on Randolph a regular stop when we’re in Chicago.

Only had 5hr layover in Chicago. Not a fan of the famous deep dish pies. More so a big fan of fire oven, classics, all fresh & natural ingredients. I chose the Ortolana, a Lemoncello Margarietta. Absolutely phenomenal! Wasn't disappointed and glad I spent my short time in Chicago enjoying ourside on thier deck, the food, my drinks and great service from my waiter. He is very attentive to all his customers. A great evening all to myself! I highly recommend and can also say, that pizza IS the best! Texture, color in the undercarriage. The cheese maintains that ooze as it cools & it's flavor. The flavors of the herbs & veggies popped and I forgot I didn't ask for Pepperoni. That was on me. However, I didn't notice or care. I loved it just as it was! A lovely atmosphere. Something I would return to if given the opportunity.
