I usually come to this spot a few times a week since I work nearby, but lately there’s been this one guy—older dude with gray hair and a beard (I think his name might be Gaetano or something?)—who’s completely ruined the vibe. First off, he’s just straight-up rude. Like, not in a "having a bad day" kind of way—he’s just always got an attitude. He talks down to people, makes snide comments, and I’ve even heard him call a customer “dumb” because they didn’t remember their order. Who does that? Then there’s the gross stuff. He never wears gloves like everyone else, and I literally watched him blow his nose and then throw on a new pair of gloves without even washing his hands. Absolutely nasty. I don’t want someone like that touching my food. Oh, and he can’t even heat food properly. Half the time it’s still cold in the middle. Like dude, it’s not that hard to just leave it in the oven for another minute. Honestly, if he keeps working there, I’m probably not coming back. I used to love this place, but I’m not about to spend money somewhere that lets someone like that...
Read moreFirst of all this tacky pizza hangover from the VH1 era is in NO way shape or form anywhere near a NY-style pizza which is crispy thin and features high quality ingredients —especially in their sauce. So they should cease with that truly unconvincing marketing pitch. It's Chicago-style pizza that originated from Chicago, and Sbarro's hasn't made decent pies since my childhood in the late 80's-early 90's...but I am here not to write about their hilariously horrible slices but their pretty decent stromboli. Located in Chicago's Union Station I resisted the urge to try their stromboli just by going off my experience with their Hazmat-worthy pizzas. I finally gave in and glad I decided to try it out. Still not the very best stromboli a person could ever have in life, but definitely hit the spot. Comfort food at its best. I purchased an extra side of Marinara sauce and the guy behind the counter put it through the sliding heating rack/oven. Came out hot, crispy outside, fluffy dough inside, pretty decent sauce, cheesey as all get out and also had bacon and...
Read moreI don't typically leave bad reviews, but rude service and mediocre at best food forced my hand. I'd never been to a Sbarro before, but the people taking my order clearly did not care. They were impatient and rude. Katherine was a pleasantry, but the rest of the people behind the counter were very snarky to me. Especially the male worker, who tried to charge me for taking a sauce packet. I left once to sit down, realize I forgot napkins and went back up to get napkins and more sauce and was told that I needed to pay for sauce wasn't charged for sauce previously. Was it a new rule that just started after I left the first time? Outrageous! I'll never eat at Sbarro again, and I advise Chicago to not as well. Just about any other place will not make you feel small just because you want a...
