Tarboush & Zaatar Mediterranean Grill — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

Was here about a year ago, and remembered the food being quite good, so I was looking forward to coming in again.

Ordered the combo meat plate, menu said $13, rung up as $14. When I politely questioned the charge, the woman ringing up the order said the difference was “taxes”. I pointed out the food price on the receipt (before tax), and she just said the prices have been updated, but the menu hasn’t. Didn’t apologize, just said that and stared at me. The menu I ordered from was taped to the counter with hand-written prices on it. Apparently, they were too lazy to spend five minutes marking up another menu to “update” it.

Ordered a cup of water with my meal. Another woman brought the order to the table without the water, and didn’t respond at all when twice I tried to ask for the water. Had to go up to the counter and ask again. Couldn’t believe it when she handed me a styrofoam soup container full of water. You’ve got to be kidding!

Most of the food was very good, except the steak which was severely over cooked, so it was dry and tough.

Will not be returning here...

I was circling back to get to the close by sandwich parlor when the Turkish word, and commonly used in the Middle East, “Tarboush”caught my eye. Let’s say I wasn’t disappointed, at all. An Amercanized take on well known Middle Eastern stables, like Shawarma, falafel, tabouleh, hummus, etc. I tried the lentils soup, and beef Shawarma. Their take on Shawarma is very authentic to the taste with a more of Mexican portions - burrito size wrap, and beef/ steak cut similar in texture to Steak Fajitas. Lentil soup was very authentic and yummy! I’ll be back for sure, inshallah!

0 hospitality and tons of arrogance and ignorance. Food was good but current staff was horrible. The music was so loud they didn’t understand the half of the order. They brought the main course first and the appetizer after that. That part we could tolerate but the attitude of the guy was horrible. After all there are so many places with good Mediterranean food so next time we will go somewhere else where people listen to their customers with attention and where the staff do everything so their guests feel welcomed and...
