Regal City North — Local services in West Chicago Township

I’ve attended over 100 screenings in this theater. Brought groups, dates, gone alone. What began as a subpar theater in 2013 has only declined since. Regal City North remains a testament to the stagnancy of the cinema industry. Perhaps the issue is lack of promotion. I’ve never seen them hosting early screenings, or special premiers. They don’t advertise promotional events. Their greatest attempt at branching out is hosting an occasional screening from Studio Ghibli. But Regal drives that; not Regal City North. They have two banks of soda machines. Only ONE machine in EACH bank has working ice at any given time. SOMETIMES only ONE machine in BOTH banks will dispense ice. And those are the only machines that dispense cold soda. Usually one machine is fully functional; both soda and ice. The soda machines were originally Coca Cola. At one point (~ 5 - 8 years ago) they swapped all the machines for Pepsi (further downgrading the theater) but that didn’t resolve the ice generation issue. Also, almost nobody ever touches the arcade games. They are almost impossible to play. They are such boring choices. Many are prize and ticket reward-based. It is utter trash. My friend and I played Ms. PAC-MAN for a little while. I think we enjoyed it twice. They use to have a play-until-you-win rubber duck claw game. $1 for a guaranteed duck. That was a worthwhile distraction to us for many years. So with terrible choices for first-person-shooters and prize games; it’s become a worthless arcade. And the amount of noise coming from that bank of machines? You’re torturing the staff needlessly. It contributes heavily to an already chaotic environment. They’ll let those concession lines get long too. There can be 30 people waiting in two lines that stretch across the lobby, intersecting with the arcade noise. Some sort of romantic encounter was occurring in the innermost men’s bathroom late the other night. I will say that I’ve enjoyed many a film screening at this theater. I typically bring a can of my own soda and a small snack. The technical difficulties are rare. Usually the lights are off and the door is closed at curtain. I’ve found the ticket takers to be consistently professional thru the years. And the IMAX theater has been a particularly keen source of fine film viewing experiences. Those orange seats have just the right amount of recline, the screen size and sound are perfect. It consistently looks and feels clean, unlike some of the other auditoriums. I've been to this theater countless times in the past few years, and have only had one issue prior to tonight. Previously, I visited to see Godzilla well after it came out and they had technical difficulties with the audio, during which they stopped the movie, asked the crowd to switch theaters, and swiftly gave out movie vouchers outside of the theater doors when the movie was over.

Same issue this time, drastically different response. I came to see Civil War on opening night, having bought tickets weeks in advance. 15 minutes into the movie, the audio went out. Instead of stopping the film, the movie continued without audio for about 5 minutes during crucial plot set ups. Why the movie wasn't just stopped is a mystery. After another 5 minutes of staring at a bright green screen, a young manager nervously told the crowd that they are experiencing technical difficulties (duh) but did thank us for our patience.

Right after this, the movie started completely over with audio throughout. That is, until the final credits started rolling, and the audio went back to the pre-movie audio promotion. Anyone who's even remotely a Marvel fan knows there is a special scene after the credits, so the crowd was again in uproar when they realized they would play the scene without the audio. As a manager was walking up the steps towards the back door, he was asked to put the audio back on, to which he shrugged, "movie's over" before scuffling through the back door. And so the scene had no audio.

THEN, as the crowd left the theater and headed toward the line for customer service, we were directed to not form a line because it would cause a "fire hazard", but an alternative was not offered. It also seemed they were taking their time handing out vouchers to those in front of the customer service desk, possibly as to discourage others for waiting for their compensation.

What a major disappointment. It was a huge distraction, especially for the fans who come to see the movie on opening night. Now, while a manager's apology in response to this review is appreciated, I would even more so appreciate an answer as to what caused the "technical difficulties", or at least why the issue wasn't handled more swiftly. If the response is understandable, I may give this theater another shot. Otherwise, you've lost yourself a group of...

I have been attending this theater for a couple years now, and parking use to be the ticketing system prior to the pandemic. Over the last few years parking was free. The ticket machines seemed to be disabled as well as the gates being up.

Most recently I attended a movie and parked in the parking lot as I usually do. To my surprise I received a fine in the mail for $80 from ABM Parking services. It was informed to me that at this time that the parking lot was no longer a part of the Regal system.

I tried my best to find a solution to this through the phone. When calling the direct line for this theater and trying to reach customer services the direct line hangs up on the phone call. This means I was not able to investigate this charge without having to go in person.

I am now having to go in person to understand this surprising fee. I went to the customer service section and there is no one there because it is under construction. I wanted to talk my issue with a theater representative and was told that the would only call a customer service agent based on the issue I was having.

I explained the fine that I had, and I was met with "We are no longer responsible for parking. We can do nothing for you and you have to dispute it with the ticketing company". I tried to get more information but was simply met with the fact they are not responsible.

They directed to me the horribly placed (almost hidden) signs about the new parking notices. It was there they explained that in order to pay for parking you must do it online, however there are no signs when entering the theater as well as prior ticketing machines at the entrance. This feel like a parking/ticketing scam.

This really goes to show how they value their patrons. The treatment I received and the lack of preparation, and the change in policy have deterred from me ever wanting to attend this theater again. Incredibly disappointed in Regal and their inability to properly communicate these major changes to patrons. I am now having to dispute this parking fee (which the average patron cannot afford) when all I wanted to do was spend a evening at the theater with...
