Did you see the survey that listed somebody's choices for the 10 best burgers in Chicago? Did you see that the Leavitt Street Inn & Tavern was ranked No. 1? I just had to see if it is as good as advertised. In fact, since I've never tasted any of them, sooner or later, my goal is to sample every one of them. Located at 2345 North Leavitt Street. at Fullerton, in the Bucktown community, Leavitt Street Inn is a friendly neighborhood watering hole with TV behind the bar and upscale crash pad offering beer and pub food in a corner locale with a patio and three overnight rooms with king-sized beds and private bathrooms with showers. It has a reputation for producing the best smashburger in Chicago and lures hungry customers with a rotating buffet featuring over 10 dishes. Open from 3 to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 2 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Leavitt Street Inn & Tavern is a home away from home. Chicken tenders and a fried chicken sandwich are popular items but the smashburger is the biggest draw of all. It is made with 1/3 pound of ground Angus Chuck topped with American cheese, house-made sauce, house-made pickles and caramelized onions on a sesame seed bun. With a frosty cold mug of root beer and an order of fries, while watching the Cubs win on TV, it makes for a very enjoyable...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently visited The Leavitt Street Inn and Tavern with friends hoping that I would enjoy a great meal. Expectations were high after seeing the 4.9 āļø with 800+ reviews.
Unfortunately it turned out to be a monumental disappointment. Our order included smashburgers and chicken sandwiches, which unfortunately did not meet our expectations.
The smashburgers were overwhelmingly salty, rendering them completely inedible for everyone in our group.
As for the chicken sandwich, it was, without exaggeration, the worst I've ever encountered. It seemed as if the chicken used was days old, dry to the point of disbelief, making the meal feel like an insult.
The experience took a turn for the worse hours later. Early in the morning around 3am I woke up from my sleep and I found myself severely nauseous, leading to repeated instances of vomiting. This ordeal was not only painful but eye-opening, prompting me to share this experience as a cautionary tale.
It's crucial for potential customers to be aware of the risk, possibly even of food poisoning, associated with dining here.
This was undeniably the worst meal I've had, surpassing all previous bad dining experiences by a significant margin. I felt compelled to write this review to prevent others from suffering a...
