I am giving this place 4 stars because the food was amazing for being vegetarian. I didn't try the vegan cheese that they offered...I'll do that next time.
I left off a star, because I could honestly give NO stars, for everything else but the food. We went on Sunday evening to try out this vegetarian Mexican food restaurant. It is a small place with 10 total tables available. I'm not a newbie when it comes to "hole in the wall" dive Mexican restaurants. They make the best food. So I didn't bat an eyelash. But let's be real..it's a dive.
We walk in and there are 3 tables open. All are dirty and have not been wiped down. We r greeted right away and the guy says, grab a menu and sit down. So we pick a dirty table, because we have no other option, thinking they will come by to clean it. Nope. Maybe a greeting of "grab a menu, and sit down, I'll come wipe off the table in a moment" would have been better.
We sit and wait at least 10 minutes or so for chips and water. ... and even longer for our order to be taken. It was so long that we wondered if we were supposed to go up to the counter and order. We ask another waitress that is now cleaning off some more tables that have now been emptied of customers and she says, I'll come take your order when I am done cleaning. Hmm...ok. we have been here at least 15 minutes already..but we will wait more. She finishes up and proceeds to take another table's order that is sitting next to us that HAS JUST SAT DOWN! We now have been here for what seems like forever and she takes this order for 4 people before us. Whatever. So we finally order but.......
Food also takes forever!!! They never brought us our drinks we ordered....but you guessed it....everyone else around us got theirs. There had to have been like 8 -10, to go orders filled and processed with people coming and going like crazy. I felt that they filled more to go orders than dealing with customers inside. While sitting and waiting to have our order taken, and while waiting for our food...the one waiter and one waitress was doing the same to other patrons too. Taking an excessively long time to take orders.
Food is amazing though, so that made up for the horrible service and mediocre atmosphere.
When paying and mentioning to them that we again never got our drinks...so just to take it off of our bill....the waitress did not even offer a quick I'm sorry, or apology of any kind.
This place would do better with better workers or maybe more workers if 2 people can't keep up with 10 tables properly. The uniqueness of the food would be the only reason I...
Read moreOk, I’ve been to this place a few times. Perfect for vegan and vegetarian diners. I’ve tried the horchata, the tacos, tortas, and today, the enchiladas. Quesadilla offer soy chicken, soy steak, soy pork, and vegetables as proteins. I’ve tried one taco from each and it was ok but the one that stood out the most was the veggie taco mmmm mmmmm!! The veggies that came in it were deliciously seasoned and cooked to perfection. With that being said, on this visit I ordered the veggie enchilada dinner. Which came w three enchiladas and included rice and beans. They started my dinner w some chips and pico de gallo. The chips were ok but that pico de gallo was bomb, a little on the spicy side though(I love spicy). Now when it came down to taking my order it was a bit of a wait. Actually, quite a long wait and there weren’t full of people. I had to call the waitress and tell her I was ready to order. As I stated earlier, I ordered the enchiladas w vegan cheese and a horchata. Asked if I could have my horchata when my food was done (because I didn’t want it to be watered down). She replied, “sure!” Five minutes later she brings my horchata in a to-go cup... So I reminded her I was dining-in and could she please bring my horchata out w my plate. She replied, “sure!”. Two minutes later here she comes w my horchata 😐 AND full of ice 🤦🏾♂️!! I again asked if I could have my horchata w my dinner and this time I told her my reason for wanting it w my dinner. She said, “your plate will be up in 3 minutes.” 7 minutes later my food arrived. I didn’t trip because I came before and I knew the food would make up for the service. The rice and beans were yummy and the veggie enchiladas were simply delicious! I would recommend this place to plant based/vegan/vegetarian diners. I don’t always get slow/bad service when I diner here so don’t expect the service to be this way every time.
PS: It’s BYOB ;) but they...
Read moreI was invited on a Sunday afternoon. Not a good idea. We were a party of 9 and our group had to be split. Menu was pretty detailed so we didn't have to ask too many questions but they didn't have a kids menu. Waitress took over 15 minutes to take our order and kept leaving during the process with the excuse that certain entrees would take long and it was better to get them in right away. She did this during our beverage order as well.
Restroom was tiny; toilet was way too close to the wall. I'm only 4'11" but I have wide hips and kept bumping into the wall. I don't believe it's wheelchair accessible.
Guacamole was good but nothing to brag about. I don't think the chips were homemade. I ordered "chicken" enchiladas en salsa roja. Requested a double portion of beans in substitution for the rice. The beans were good, they weren't dry. The "chicken" tasted like carne asada instead so I'm not sure if maybe they made a mistake. I was ok with it cause I prefer carne asada anyway. I ordered "chicken" cause that's what my friends and the waitress recommended. Someone in my party ordered a veggie huarache and I tasted it; it was good. Another ordered chicharrón huarache - I did not like it at all. And another ordered a steak huarache that too was good.
I forgot to take pictures because by the time our entrees arrived I was really hungry. Food presentation wasn't impressive. It was your average Mexican fast food dishes. We had gone through two servings of chips and an order of guacamole before our entrees arrived - approximately a 30 minute wait.
I was impressed however at their ability to flavor soybeans so differently. I'm sure vegetarians and vegans enjoy this place but I'm a carnivore so unless I'm doing a Daniel Fast and want a spin on things I don't think I'll...
