We tried out this place because of the high reviews and we have to say that this place was a little disappointing. We ordered 3 dishes: the combo fried appetizer dish, the chicken tiki masala, and the tandori sizzling combination platter, and few of the nan flavors.
What tasted good: The combo fried appetizer dish: simosas, chicken fried pieces, onion fried pastry, and another veggie fried pasty. Sorry I don't remember the exact names or spellings of those items, but they do have a "combination fried appetizer dish" on the menu. This plate was huge and delicious! Highly recommended. We ordered the Onion Nan and the Cheese Nan. Both were Excellent. The Onion Nan is exceptionally delicious. Cheese Nan tastes like a cheese quesadilla. We like it and really love the Onion Nan. Onion nan was sweet and salting and hits all of the right senses.
What did not meet up to our expectation and tastes better at many other Indian restaurants: The Tandori sizzling combination platter was disappointing. It came out in a hot sizzling and loud dish . By loud I mean that the sizzling noise was very loud and full of steam, smoke, sizzle, smell, etc... So it made you totally excited for the dish. Which is why it is also such a BIG disappointment because it totally DID NOT taste as good as the sight or smell. It did not taste good at all. I think all 4 people at my table only took a bite of one piece and then that was it for that dish. We cannot even finish the rest of our bitten pieces. The dish was very bland, the meat though was medium (not too juicy and not too dry), was not tasteful at all. The fried chicken piece in the appetizer dish was way better. And at almost $20 for this dish, we expected more than just a tease. The second dish was the Chicken Tiki Masala. One of the most popular dish at most Indian restaurants. This place has one of the worst tasting Tiki Masala. We ordered it Medium and Mild. The Medium was like a mild at most other places so not spicy enough. The mild has no spicy taste to it at all. Both plates tastes very similar. And the sauce was very sour and tartsy and tasted like they put way too much tomato sauce in this dish, and it was not as creamy tasting. Most places the sauce for this dish is yellow and our dishes came out very red orange, close to red in color. If you like sour and tartsy Masala, then you will like this dish. However, we have had many Chicken Tiki Masala at many different Indian restaurants before eating here and this dish fell very short. We did not even finish half of the dish. We ordered 2 Indian Teas, and they were okay. Their teas lacks more spices and more kicks than most other Indian places that we have had. The Chai flavors in these isn't as strong. If you like your tea mild spice tastes, then you will like this.
We walked out of here ordering 3 main dishes, 2 nans, and 1 appetizer dish and 4 drinks and ended up with a bill that was close to $100. It would have been fine if all of the main courses tasted good. But for the price, we expected better tasting main dishes. We ended up with so much food left over because no one wanted to eat anymore. We have never left a restaurant with this much of foods left over.
We are giving this place 3 stars because the appetizers were really good. The other missing stars were for the short comings of the main dishes. The alcohol drinks are about the same as other places since they all came from the professional breweries. The Indian teas fell a little short but not as short as the main courses.
Try this place if you are curious. But we won't be coming back and we won't be taking friends here either. Sorry, I hate to give less than perfect reviews but wanted to give an honest perspective on our experiences. Since we did go off of other people's high reviews in selecting this place, and wished that there were other reviewers that would...
Read moreFlavors of India is a cozy little place, hidden behind Wingers in West Jordan. It's hard to spot from the road, but it's in-between the movie theaters and the aforementioned restaurant.
The atmosphere and decorations are nice and definitely has an Indian flare... The only downside are the 10 or so TVs playing various channels. One was showing Shaun the sheep, others Indian music videos. I guess it has more the feel of an Indian sports bar, maybe?
The food is actually quite good. I had the "Baingan Bharta", essentially eggplant, tomato and onion dish served with basmati rice. The flavor is very good.
I've been here multiple times and I've always been impressed with the food. I docked a star for the service. As I said, been here multiple times and I've never had a server smile or seem very friendly. Every time I go it's like everyone that works there hates being there. So for this, I dock the star because it almost feels like they are annoyed that you came in.
The food is excellent, however, and the price isn't bad, so give them a try. Ignore the bad customer service and enjoy the food.
UPDATE: It never fails, you can't get anyone to smile that works here or act like they want to be here. The food is good, however, so it really makes up for it, mostly. The green chili naan was really very good. It was the first time I tried it and the flavor and spiciness was superb!
Honestly, even with the lack of smiles and friendliness, this place is bordering on 5 stars, it's just...
Read moreI don't post any review if the taste is bad . But I want to to be honest about my experience here. So here it is . After looking through places around I found this place which I thought is good just by looking at other's reviews and photo. But when I actually dine in and order the food , it was disgusting. I ordered appetizer, chicken Biryani and Lamb curry. The Biryani didn't even look like biryani nor it had taste of biryani. Even a mediocre biryani would have a taste which resemble biryani. But, at this restaurant , the biryani was like Rice mixed with chicken pieces without any flavor of biryani. It was so bad I couldn't even finish it and guess what, they charged $16.27 for biryani and around $18 for curry while the menu prices are actually less. The menu had price of $15.99 but they charged $16.27 and added taxes on top of that. The lamb curry tasted like water mixed with some Indian spices. It had taste of pepper and water and no salt. The lamb tasted stale and overall the taste was bad that I can't describe. The only thing I liked is the Mango Lassi. The Biryani, the curry and the appetizer chicken tikka was so baaaadd. I was furious when I came to know that they cheated us by charging more than what is on the menu price . They hike the prices before taxes when you pay . They also had some nonsense surcharge on top of the food items and taxes. I would not recommend anyone to eat at the restaurant unless they better their quality and stop cheating...
