Bruno’s Swiss Inn and Big O’s Sports Room is a local tradition and family-owned since the 1950s. The Itin family has put their heart and soul into their German/Swiss/Italian flavors with a great menu full of comfort foods and savory flavors.
They have so many great items to choose from including a crusty pizza with zesty sauce and a cheese blend that has a slight hint of a smokey flavor. They pile on ingredients under the cheese and cut it into thin strips. There is an apple butter option for sauce too if you want to try something different. Our family order will often include a sausage and apple butter pizza. The Bruno Dough is awesome and comes out super fast! It is dough balls deep-fried and coated with garlic butter and parmesan cheese with your choice of garlic butter, nacho cheese or marinara for dipping. They also have sauteed chicken livers as an appetizer and many other great options including an antipasto plate.
If you are looking for Germanic flavors, the wienerschnitzel and fine ground bratwursts or knackwursts wrapped in puff pastry are all delightful. The dumplings served with the schnitzel and bratwurst are very tasty and tender. The braten sauce served over the dumplings served with the bratwursts is particularly delicious.
All the portions are generous and the atmosphere is friendly and warm. The bar area is a nice option if you want a quieter atmosphere which was designed in the style of their...
Read more2nd attempt and I would say that it is ok. This time we had a pepperoni and banana pepper pizza, and I tried their mudslide and asked the bartender to make my usual hurricane. I use the hurricane to judge consistency in flavor and how much alcohol is used. The pizza is a little greasy but slightly better ingredients than let's say papa John's. However, it was slightly bland for the selected toppings which should be a bit more pronounced. The mudslide was excellent but the hurricane was too heavy on the alcohol and they didn't have the proper ingredients for this popular southern coastal drink. The server was on top of it and had she had a good attitude. She was fluid in tending a busy bar room. The bartender seemed slightly disgruntled when the waitress suggest he speak with me if he didn't know how to make the hurricane but otherwise fine. He got fairly close on his attempt. Overall the decor is reminiscent of arnis which I believe they we're partners at one time. Purdue memorabilia and news paper clippings all over the wall. A few sectioned off rooms from what I could see. I was neither Impressed nor disappointed. Willing to try again but not top of list for...
Read moreYummy food, nice waitstaff, cool scenery, clean restrooms, ample parking.
The food is great, the atmosphere is okay. "Okay" as in, the resaurant felt a little bit dusty, and the dude behind the register did not smile at any point.
However, the waitstaff was excellent.
I believe the manager or owner was behind the register at the time when I paid. He was the only one in the restaurant not wearing a uniformed shirt.
There are a lot of interesting newspaper clippings and articles along the walls when you enter, which are all regarding the fame and history of the restaurant. There are also LOTS of sports memorabilia and sport related knickknacks in the restaurant. Parking was supple, and free. The restrooms are very clean.
So, 4 out of 5 due to perceived indifference from the manager or owner behind the register. He seemed to want my money, but not my business, if that...
