Another Broken Egg Cafe 705 Palm Bar Rd NE West Melbourne, FL 32905
4.5 Stars (chain restaurant review)
Having grown to a modest 91 locations since 1996, it's safe to say Another Broken Egg Cafe is here to stay. With more than half of those (54) being franchise-owned and having an annual revenue of over $2 million per location, it's also safe to say this is a good investment. That one was free.
Ashley was my service pro for the meal and she was OUTSTANDING in every way a server could. The streak stands at seven. I asked Ashley for one Broken Egg Biscuit Sandwich, an order of Shrimp & Grits, some Strawberry Pound Cake French Toast (because, did you see the name of that dish?) and a half order of Beignets. As Ashley retreated to place my order, I snapped a few pics of the joint and kicked back to await my Strawb....err, order. Based on the turnaround and presentation of said order, I would hazard a guess that the kitchen staff on hand was as pro in their duties as Ashley was in hers. I mean, look at that stuff!
Pausing long enough to place my napkin, I eagerly grabbed the Broken Egg Biscuit Sandwich and took a goodly sized bite. As the flavors hit my palate, my jaw paused mid-mastication to allow the deliciousness to wash over my mouth like a wave of savory succulence. West "By Gawd" Melbourne, you are some lucky sumwitches to have this in your neighborhood. The chicken tender was juicy and that sausage gravy was to die for. However, as with all things sandwich, it's all about the bread/base and as sure as there are mosquitoes in Alligator Alcatraz, this was some of the best biscuit I have ever had. It was crisp on the outside and all flaky-moist goodness on the inside. This right here is 5 Star all the way.
Forcing myself to move on to the next dish, I plopped a forkful of Shrimp & Grits into maw. Dang. This was as tasty as the Biscuit Sandwich. I'm on a roll today! The flavors were outstanding. The grits were cooked to perfection; however, the sausage and shrimp were mid-grade, and I was not expecting that.
This brings us to our penultimate stop on our culinary journey through the menu of Another Broken Egg Cafe: the staggeringly beautiful Strawberry Pound Cake French Toast. Look at the picture. Look at it! French toast-style pound cake topped with fresh strawberries, whipped cream and crème brûlée sugar - how could this not be fantastic? This was literally divine and is highly recommended.
I had to stop myself or I wouldn't have room for even one bite of the item yet to be sampled, their Beignets. These were warm, tasty and topped with a gorgeous marmalade that I would crawl across broken eggshells for. The whole meal was eggselent and literally a sausage switch away from being 5 stars. Read moreI saw a review raving about the great food at this place. So I decided to treat my husband to breakfast. He may never let me take him to breakfast again. We were seated by a very pleasant front end hostess. Sadly it went down from there. First, the waitress came came and said “Are you ready to order?”. I replied “No, but I’d love a tea” and then she stared at my husband till he said “I’d like a coffee. She couldn’t remember I asked for black tea so she brought hot water and my husband got 1/2 cup of coffee! 2nd: She asks “ Are you ready to order now?” I am but my husband isn’t. He apologizes for the delay and explains “ it’s our first time”. Clue given and reply anything but “I’m here all day. Do take your time.” So now I’m trying to be understanding but with 90% of the tables empty at 8:45 a.m., I’m having a hard time remaining polite let alone pleasant based on her attitude already. But she’s walked away so I brave on.
About 10 minutes later she approaches and we are ready. I order a side of buttermilk pancakes and fresh fruit. My husband orders a supreme omelet with country fries and English muffin. He asks for more coffee. And again he receives a 1/2 cup of coffee. About 7-8 minutes later a different person brings our meals. She asks if we’d like coffee and my husband says “yes please” she pours and fills his cup roughly 1 inch from top leaving room for cream. And then we begin to eat.
I say eat because it was more of a trial testing with an immediately push away. The buttermilk pancakes tasted like corn cake batter instead of buttermilk. I set them aside. Then I picked up a piece of apple which broke and while trying to get the broken piece off my plate it turned to mush. As did the other 5 slices. I had 5 grapes with multiple black spoil spots, and 2 more that had stems left on them. A few blackberries but they were water soaked and tasteless so maybe they weren’t blackberries and the strawberries had dirt. Now all my breakfast is in the middle of the table.
My husband also pushed his omelet aside and when I ask about his meal he indicated “Omelet had a funky taste and the country potatoes couldn’t really be called hot. But he did indicate the English muffin and jelly was good. Waitress came over and saw the food in middle of table and said “boxes”, and frankly I just said “No” She brought bill and we paid and left.
So whomever gave this place a great review needs to get the same waitress we had; she needs to order the same food, and then if she’s not sick she can write another glowing review.
Me. Well - my husband and I do breakfast out 2-3!times weekly. And at least 1 day on weekends. That’s a lot of restaurants and a lot of restaurant customers. I’m positive after this experience we won’t be recommending this place anytime...
Read moreUpdated review Being a parent of 2 little ones, sometimes things get left behind. We left a Dr Brown's weighted straw cup for our 10 month old on the table. Didn't notice it til we got home and by that time they were closed. I called first thing Monday morning and got no response. Left a voicemail and got no callback. Decided to pop in 3 days later and retrieve it. The hostess acknowledged that she remembers seeing it but she didn't know what happened to it. I spoke with a "manager" and his response was "we threw it away". Excuse me? You don't keep personal items that are left behind? He said "not when it's been in someone's mouth". First of all, it has a cap that covers the straw and second, who throws away a baby bottle?? Besides all of that, it was his lack of sympathy that really prompted me to edit my review. He showed a complete lack of care and didn't even apologize for throwing away our personal property. I felt like he was obligated to speak to me and that he really didn't want to even deal with something so silly, in his eyes. I'll go buy another one for $7, that's not a big deal. But running a place of business with the kind of attitude he showed me just isn't somewhere I'd ever support again. So you lost a customer over a baby bottle, I hope that was worth it.
Let me be very clear; Had the manager showed the slightest bit of sympathy or even gave me an empty apology, this review might have gone a little bit differently. But failing to apologize for throwing away personal property, and also failing to return my call from two days ago, is unacceptable behavior for someone representing the face of this establishment.
Our first time here. We reserved online so when we arrived, the wait was minimal just to clear a table. Food was great, staff was friendly. Service was not the best in terms of speed and the food took a little long but I'm not knocking them for this since it was Father's Day and I'm sure busier than normal. Price was reasonable in today's market. Overall we would absolutely be back again.
I'm a breakfast person. So any place that sells breakfast late enough for me to have it, since I do Intermittent fasting and sometimes can't break my fast early in the morning, gets a...
