I'm not a huge fan of Culver's. They're hamburgers are better than a lot of the other fast food places. However, the fries are let down. Crinkle cuts can be better but I often find Culver's under cooks them. Yes, they're fully cooked but they're very lightly cooked and you rarely get a crispy french fry. Also, I'm not wild about the custards. It's a different type of ice cream taste and though they have multiple varieties and flavor of the day it's really not my pic to go and get if I'm in an ice cream mood. But, the real reason for this review is to tell you something I am a fan of at Culver's. I stopped there recently because as it being the season of Lent all the restaurants have added a new or different fish offering to their menu. I believe Culver's most of the time you can get fish and chips which is a piece of cod, but during Lent they offer walleye. Now that's something I am a fan of. We used to have a restaurant that we frequently went to for walleye and there were several restaurants in northern Illinois that would served it as well. Culver's offers several versions in the use of walleye from sandwiches to dinners. I ordered a two-piece dinner. This comes with two generous portions of walleye nicely breaded and barely robust and not thin fillets. You also get an order of crinkle cut fries, coleslaw, and a dinner roll. Once again the fries were ear nothing to write home about. But the fish was a entirely different story. As I stated they're not very thin fillets but a nice thickness to them perfectly coated and perfectly fried. If you never had walleye, it's a freshwater fish and doesn't have that overly fishy taste to it something along like having haddock or halibut, close but not quite the same. Either way, Culver is serving a very nice cut of fish. The coleslaw was a good size portion for the size dinner and was very tasty. It was a treat to get a Parker House roll with butter. Probably the only let down to this whole experience was I had ordered it through the drive-thru, and it's Culver so everything is fresh. This means you have to pull off to the side and wait for the food to derived. You get the bag, you come home, you take out of the bag the nice container and a separate bag with condiments like tartar sauce and ketchup, but then you notice they did not include a single utensil or napkins. Good thing I brought this home because if I taken it to work I'd be stuck trying to figure out how to eat this meal yeah I could pick up the fish with my hands and he's a french fries in my hands and eat the role playing with my hands but not so much the coleslaw. If I was at the restaurant, I would just walk back to the counter and tell them what they forgot. This is becoming the typical thing at these fast food restaurants or should I say drive-through restaurants you get the food and they're forgetting to add the little things cuz they're trying to rush. Bottom line is Culver's is a good place for a burger and during Lent, walleye. They need to improve their...
Read moreI’m livid with this location. I arrive at the store 40 minutes before close, I have a giant church party filling in behind me (which wasn’t with me). I order my food, receive my drink and number and I wait 30/40 minutes for my food. As I see that the church party is getting their food before me, I walk to the counter and ask where “number 38” (my order) is. They look for it and cannot find it. I’m waiting longer, and finally the store hits closing time. They are still looking for it. While I did not have a receipt, I look at my bank statement to prove that I had ordered from them. I look, and I have a -$112.47 charge which was the rest of my checking account (it may go over tomorrow because the party after me went to $150). The staff clearly doesn’t care, and claims it will get cleared through the bank. I write down my info so they can call, meanwhile I have no money left because they over charged my account. I ask if I can get any food since I was charged $112, the woman says no because they closed. I was waiting there the whole time for my food, and was stuck their from their own fault and they wouldn’t give me food. I ask if I was to get food would I have to pay for it since I was charged a whopping $112 for a Culver’s delux meal, with Medium fries, cheese curds and a large drink. She said I would have to pay for it!
I’m not one to be a karen, I work in the food industry, I gave them the benefit of the doubt for 30 minutes because they were slammed, but when I saw they took $112 from me for something I did not order, I was angry.
The “Manager” whoever she was, was awful, she didn’t offer any reconciliation. I am now broke because of someone’s error and wasn’t offered anything for my $112 grievance. Unfortunately this happened so late in the day I cannot call the bank and dispute this. I’m never going back to this location again, and I will tell others of the robbery that was committed. My bank better be able to sort this out with...
Read moreThis little restaurant is becoming a piece of Midwest Americana! People joke that it’s the Chick-fil-A of burgers, and that’s not too far from the truth. This restaurant started in small town North Central, Wisconsin, where I grew up, and has some of the best burgers you will ever have the chance to experience. Everything is made to order, the french fries are always made fresh, and if you’ve never experienced a deep-fried Wisconsin cheddar cheese curd, you need to swing into this place just for that experience.
Called butter burgers, these burgers are a traditional smash burger, prepared on a butter, grilled bun, the chicken sandwiches and chicken tenders are not overcooked and also always made fresh. You never have dried out food at this restaurant. Toppings are also very fresh and their lettuce is not out of a bag like at other fast food restaurants.
For those of you that remember traditional drive up Root Beer stands from the 50s 60s and 70s in the Midwest, you must try their root beer here. Made in the same tradition, with the same taste that you remember as a kid, it most definitely triggers my memories as well as taste buds! My children have said that it tastes different than the root beer they’re used to. I’ve explained that this is actually what real draft ‘frozen mug’ root beer is.
Lastly, if you like milkshakes and ice cream, this place is a must as Culvers has amazing frozen custard and a wide range of unique toppings, similar to a Dairy Queen blizzard. Most importantly, the custard is much better here than you’ll find out a traditional Dairy Queen.
The place is always clean, and the staff is well trained and friendly. All meals are delivered to your table, and they will come by to check on you on a regular basis.
Check this place out and leave Burger King and...
