Sucré — Restaurant in West University Place

Place has great potential but it is still a bit rough around edges. Looks beautiful but pastries are very expensive. I had a beautifully presented and delicious cappuccino. Not enough seating, which highly detracts from the ambiance. It should be a destination place which requires appropriate seating. Can’t emphasize this enough. I don’t need a highly decorated, fancy atmosphere if my best option is to go there for take out. Please create, both indoors and outdoors, a place where people want to come and stay for a while. Otherwise, there are plenty of cheaper venues around where I can go get a pastry and cup of coffee for take out.The outside area is not set up properly and the place is not child friendly. Presentation is very appealing. Flavour wise the macarons are pretty good. Salted caramel was pretty tasty. The macarons were fresh. Cheesecake had an odd texture/grittiness that made it feel weird though the flavour itself was good.

Service was awful. The man at the counter (white jacket and forearm tattoos) was inpatient from the moment we entered. But we were the only ones there and he was not doing anything. The attitude was very unpleasant. He was abrasive when we placed our order and then gave the items to me in a very condescending manner. We got home and he had forget an item - I didn’t bother calling or going back he made the experience awful.

I have been passing by Sucré for a while and eventually decided to stop by this morning with my sister: Upon coming in, we were greeted by the pastry artist and the barista, who were so welcoming, interactive, and informative.
