Seating: This Cafe Rio location is cramped and offers limited seating. The seating itself is a large collection of small, round tables with individual chairs that are ok to seat three people, maybe four. If your group has four or more people, than it's likely you won't be at the same table. Many other Cafe Rio locations offer much larger lobbies with booths, large, rectangle tables, window bars, etc.., but this location seems determined to sardine as many people as possible into their store rather than being determined to offer a comfortable, inviting dining experience. Cleanliness: During our entire visit, there were bags full of trash sitting on the floor that nobody was using or filling; just full trash bags laying on the ground (see pictures). There was also a pile of trash accumulating behind the stand that holds the silverware, lids, and straws. The restaurant wasn't busy and there's no reason that the store should have been in such disarray. Besides the unusual examples mentioned here, there was a general atmosphere of uncleanliness in the store (that could have something to do with the poor lighting though). Customer service: Others here have mentioned that the staff is rude. I wouldn't say that they are rude, but they don't try to be polite or courteous either. Food: The food was as good as any other Cafe Rio location in the Salt Lake area; we didn't have any issues such as the food being undercooked or old. That's not really what's this review is about though; if you've been to Cafe Rio, you already know what the food's like.

If you do not have a cafe rio in your area, I would highly recommend you try it out! Cafe rio is a more of a fresh-mex eats. Which, although not authentic Spanish flavors, it’s still REALLY GOOD!! The kitchen is an open concept so, as you order & wait in line you can often watch someone making fresh tortillas, grilling chicken etc...it’s brilliant because you know exactly what’s going into your food. Think if Subway. Same concept.... anyways, they have burritos, salads, tacos, enchiladas etc. They also have a daily special! Fish tacos Friday are one of my favs. My go to is a sweet pork salad or shredded chicken burrito. They also have chicken enchilada soup that is super yummy & their desserts are really great too! All of them. Keylime is my fav.😊 today we had a sweet pork salad, sweet pork burrito & a couple of ninos for the little ones. Ninos are a mini quesadilla. And they’re great! I always order a few tortillas for the road because they’re THAT good 😊.. this location was fast, friendly and clean! We will be back soon 👍🏽

********This was a 10:30pm and they said they stay open till 11pm as posted on door and Google. They said "sorry we are out of carna asada" I then asked for the regular grilled steak and she grabbed one of the metal non heated containers that didn't contain much steak at all and said "this is all we have". I was shocked and even watched another party come right behind me and they seen this display of unheated and unsanitary food on a cart and turned and walked out. If you are going to close at 10:30 then post that and change your hours! If I was the owner of this franchise this would be unacceptable. You be the judge *****update still the same practice you go in an hour before they close and all the stuff is off the bar and floors are wet from them mopping ahead of time. If you want to close early then change your hours and do so. If you don't then stay open and make the customers have a happy and warm experience.

This place is OK. Let's start with the food. Everytime I go here the food is always fresh, the Portions they give (compared to other Cafe Rios) are pretty decent you will forsure get your money's worth, the steak is always so juicy and delicious everytime I come here. That's the only reason why I always seem to come back to this location because of the quality of the food. Now.. the customer service. Not good at all. 0 stars! The workers are fast but rude, no smile, no "hi what can I get you?" All I get are just stares..looking at me dead in the eye (into my soul) without saying a word. I'm the one who has to ask them questions and ask what goes next on my food. It's a very odd experience, honestly. It seems to be every time I go in as well. I'm not sure why? But it seems to always happen, I've noticed. It's also not a language barrier as I, too, speak spanish and have tried too communicate in English and Spanish. Still get the same blank stare without communication. Lol. The dining experience inside the restaurant is not good at all 0 stars as well. The tables are always so sticky, the utensil bar is not stocked, always a mess by the drinking fountain area, nobody seems to be cleaning the tables nor the utensil area. It's kind of gross when you're trying to enjoy your food and want to put your elbows on the table or accidentally touch the actual table without it being sticky.. I've also noticed that while eating inside the restaurant, the staff is always huddled up in groups gossiping about the customers in Spanish and judging them. I've overheard them. It makes me feel uncomfortable because what they say in Spanish about other customers is not okay. The worst part of it all.. is that the manager is also huddled up gossiping about customers how sad. So when I dine in.. I always make sure I put napkins on my table and have my back towards the hyenas.. Oh I mean coworkers. So I can try and enjoy my food without looking at them but they talk so loud I can still hear them. The only reason I am giving them 3 stars is because of the food quality. That is it. Everything else is a terrible experience for me. Would I recommend this place? Meh, give it a try. I honestly haven't tried the other meats because I always get the steak. But the rice is always cooked to perfection, the beans are delicious with yummy flavors and the sauces are delicious as well. The cooks are definitely doing something right. So food quality yes I would recommend you come here and take it to go, but beware for everything else you are in for if you eat inside. That is my...

Cafe Rio has gone downhill so far, that it is no longer worth dining at. Cafe Rio has been steadily shrinking portion sizes. The Cafe Rio of a decade ago was my hands-down favorite restaurant. Now I barely consider it better than Betos or Rancheritos, and only then because the ingredients are better quality. The taste is now so bland that ingredient quality is all they have on them.

My last few burritos had so little meat that I couldn't taste anything but the beans, rice, and sauce.

The cheese situation is worse, I haven't had enough cheese on a Cafe Rio burrito to taste in over a year.

The sour cream portions are now so small that they aren't enough for more than a few bites. The register still says 2 oz sour cream when ringing it up, but after measuring, they only give around a quarter oz to half an oz of sour cream now. Of course, I'm sure they will update the register to not say 2 oz after reading this. The receipt already doesn't say 2 oz anymore.

An enchilada style burrito is supposed to have one scoop of sauce inside and two on top, it still often has that amount, but I've also often seen them doing half scoops.

The servers tend to be rude or ignore you. I've had multiple instances of the servers refusing to acknowledge my requests, usually when I ask for plain tomatoes instead of Pico as I hate cilantro, although I have no problem with the cilantro lime rice for whatever reason. To me, the cilantro in the Pico is enough to ruin the taste of the meal, making it a waste of time and money to eat there.

Cafe Rio feedback used to immediately send a reply email to acknowledged that they received your feedback. They would then call you promptly to discuss your issues. They no longer do that. The last few times, I didn't receive the automatic email acknowledgement or the follow-up call. They clearly don't care about customer feedback or opinions anymore.

This location has been the worst for me, but it is the closest to home and the one I usually go to when I feel nostalgic. The others around town don't really seem to be...

I have always ordered online to pick up my meals. The longest I have ever waited for a to go meal was maybe 10 min. Last week I ordered food and when I went to pick it up the to go cashier didnt even acknowledge that I was there until after a few min but today it was the worst. I ordered nachos and a salmon salad at 4:50 pm through my phone I got there at 4:57 pm the to go cashier was a different one from last week and she also didnt acknowledge me for a long time all she said was to wait in a rude manner. I waited for about 4 min for her to ask me what order I was picking up. After letting her know all she said that the salmon wasn't ready and it would be a few min. I decided to wait. I WAITED FOR ALMOST AN HOUR just for the salmon to be ready! How long does it take to grill salmon?! No one was even giving me an update. Now I understand if they were busy but when I got there to pick up my food there was only one customer ordering food and the restaurant was not that packed. Then after 20 min of waiting people started coming in and going and the restaurant got a little more packed and I was still waiting even people who ordered to go way after me would pick up their food that was ready. After finally 30 min I decided to ask the other cashier why it was taking so long but she didnt have an answer but that a manager would come talk to me. Finally around 5:40 pm the manager came to tell me that I would get a free meal?! He didnt even say sorry until the end. It was as if I was bugging them as a customer. When I finally got home the nachos were ready as soon as I got to cafe rio so they were cold as heck and the salmon that I waited for so long was burnt and cold! Never going back to this location again the one in taylorsville is better. I recommend not to order to go here it's faster and better to just line up for your food. It was ridiculous. Good thing I got a refund...
