Read moreMy group and I were very excited for our visit to Barroco, after hearing so many glowing reviews, unfortunately our experience just didn't measure up.
When we arrived for our 5:30 reservation and were the second table to be seated in the restaurant, I assumed we would have no problem making our 6:40 VR reservation. Silly me.
I didn't get our waitress's name, but we'll go ahead and call her Tinder, because she spent the entire night ghosting us. After 45 minutes, we had to flag her down and request to order. Shortly after ordering, I called on our VR reservation and requested to move it back to 7:20, as we were still waiting on our food. I assumed surely, now that we ordered, an hour from now would give us plenty of time to eat and pay. Again, silly me.
When it came time to pay, Tinder was no where to be seen. She never once came to check on us to ask how everything was, refill waters, etc. By 7:10 we finally caught her attention and flagged her over to request our bill. When she printed the bill out separately for us, she gave two girls the wrong bill - including having printed my bill out twice, giving it to both me and another girl in the group. She then promptly disappeared before we could let her know. We flagged her down again and it took a total of three attempts before everyone had the correct bill.
On to the food, which was sadly, only marginally better than our service. Our fried plantains arrived without the sauces (and as you may have guessed by now, flagging down Tinder for them was quite the ordeal). And of the three of us that ordered arepas, we all reported the breading to be reminiscent of cardboard, with varying degrees of contentedness on the fillings. Personally, my Hawaiian arepa had filling that was just as dry as it's cardboard housing.
I won't make the mistake of returning for a second visit, but I do hope that Tinder was simply having an off night and this is not the standard that one can expect from their...
Read moreWe normally love Barroco, tonight was a disaster. We live down the street from the Lakewood location and never have any issues with our orders since that location first opened many years ago. We visited the Crocker Location tonight and placed a phone order for a to go order. I ordered [1] Cheesy corn [asked if it came with Arepas fries and was told it came with Arepa fries and chips], an extra side of arepa fries [because an order is never enough and we don't like the tortilla chips], and a hotdog plain [I asked if that came with anything and I was told no just hot dog]. I was told my total would be $15 and would be ready in 30 minutes. Now, it was ready in 20 minutes. Awesome. Upon walking out the door, my daughter realized I didn't ask for pineapple sauce. I went across the street and picked up Bibibop for the rest of the family and got into the car in the parking garage across the mall. My son decided he couldn't wait until he got home to have his hot dog and realized there was NO hot dog. I asked my husband to check the receipt from when he paid and he said he was not given one so I could not check what we were really charged for. We ended up driving to find a parking spot closer to the restaurant and I sent my husband in to find out why were missing a hot dog. He returned and said after explaining situation to the hostess that somehow despite the order taker repeating my order back to me twice, the hot dog was not in Barroco's system. He was not happy that he had to convince the hostess that we had ordered a hot dog at the time of the phone order. $7 and 12 minutes later I was about to console a very angry, hungry child with a hotdog that apparently came with real french fires. This is the second time we have eaten at this location and we won't be making it a 3rd time. If we go back, we will have to stick with the...
