My wife and I went for our anniversary. I'll dig deeper below but overall our experience was very middle of the road which typically isnt a bad thing but at their price point you are kind of hoping for more.
Service: Our waitress was nice, but we definitely felt a bit like the neglected table at some points. She made a mistake with our order but tried her best to correct the situation. Overall could be better but not upset with the level of service. Manager did come around to talk to us after dinner to see how everything was.
FOOD:
Crab cake: Usually a staple at steakhouses, I found their crab cake to really underdeliver and I would go as far as to say the crab itself did not taste fresh. Of all the items we had for dinner, this one was probably the most offensively bad one. I see a couple of reviews stating the same thing about the crab cake so maybe this is not a one time issue.
Raspberry BBQ Shrimp: This dish was extremely good and there was an excellent blend of flavors. The rice that came with it was buttery and had texture with the roasted nuts. This was by far the better app of the two we tried.
Bread: Theres better bread at other steakhouses but this one held its own and was pretty good. Unsalted butter being served with it is a bit of a fumble but not bad enough to complain about
Caesar Salad: Regular standard fare caesar salad. Didnt mess it up
Lobster Bisque: Was easily the best tasting dish of the night. This soup has a lot of flavor and the consistency is perfect. Its $12 for a bowl which is very expensive but I did not feel like my money went to waste here. Very well done
Steak Christopher: This dish was absolutely a bargain. You get a ton of food for their price point. The mash and asparagus were all right as well as the bernaise that was served with it. My wife really enjoyed it
filet with potato hash: Im a bit more critical of steaks than other's so this steak is probably a very good steak to most people but to me I felt like the steaks were underseasoned before getting cooked. The crust one the steak was excellent which created a good texture but there was a really big lack of flavor with this steak. It came with bernaise but Im a firm believer that a steak should be able to hold up on its own. Compared to similar price pointed steakhouses such as Red or Marble Room, Cabin Clubs does not match up well. I would even say some steaks have had better flavor at a Texas Roadhouse.
The hash did not taste good. I thought there was a vinagrette on it with how acidic and biter the taste was but looking at the menu now I dont think that is the case. I could see it flavor wise comboing with the steak pretty well but this one might not be for me.
Mac and Cheese: My wife likes mac and cheese and I dont and when this dish came out she did not like it and I really enjoyed it. Take with that what you will.
We werent offered a dessert menu so its hard to tell whether or not they offer any type of dessert. We thought we saw a table or two with something but seeing as they dont have a menu online for it Im going to guess its meant for special occasions.
Overall to summarize nothing outside of the crab cake and the hash was really bad but I dont think there are enough high notes to justify us wanting to come back and spend the amount of money we did again. The ambience in the restaurant really is special and gives off a homey feel. The food though left us both wanting a bit more.
3 Stars, but I would give a 2.5 if I could since to me its very...
Read moreFor starters, their steaks were phenomenal. They also had a great wine list. That's about as far as I can go with the positives.
The first downfall was before even entering the building, right next to the front door was a giant ash bin with cigarette smoke wafting out of it, major turn off going into a fine dining establishment. Host was friendly, but I was surprised to find how small and cramped it was. Both tables and booths were practically on top of each other, my wife had to hold her purse up to avoid hitting people while being ushered to our table. From there, the service was pretty slow. Took a while to get our drink orders taken and a while longer before we actually got them. Salads arrived, we both got Caesar, and inwas surprised to find how small they were and how traditional they were. Simple romaine, parmasean cheese and lightly dressed wih a very traditional dressing, all topped with an olive. For a pricier place like this, I expect a little more creativity wih meals than what I can make at home. Main course arrived, again...steaks... PERFECT, but the side was really disappointing. Had the mushroom and goat cheese ravioli. I couldn't pick up even a fait bit of goat cheese, aside from that, it was pretty clear that it wasn't made to order and had been sitting in a basket strainer for a while. The ravioli was all on top of a very unpleasant ice cream scoop of boiled spinach. Final ding came shortly after we got our meals when the host showed up to check in on us, he had quite obviously just came in from a smoke break. The odor of smoke was string and lingered after he left, again just not pleasant while dining.
I don't regret going, but I find it highly unlikely I'll ever go back. This place clearly has a strong following, an older, traditional croud. There are plenty of other great steakhouses in the area that have just as good steaks, but knock the rest of the dining experience out of...
Read moreWow. My husband and I came for my birthday celebration (about a month ago) and were expecting a nice dinner in a quiet environment with acceptable service. I had mentioned it was my birthday when making the reservation.
There was a game playing in the bar area. The place is tiny so it felt like 20 people were YELLING in our ears. We had to sit next to each other because we couldn’t hear. I was astounded that behavior was permitted in the restaurant, it sounded like a sports bar during the Super Bowl.
The food was mediocre, my salad dressing was described as a vinaigrette and was served a glob of thick goo on top of wilted lettuce and a lone, sad little tomato. My husband’s appetizer was drenched in salt.
On to the “service”! I had to tell Tom The Waiter no less than 3 times that we do not drink alcohol and did not need to hear his sales spiel on wine and mixed drinks. He was visibly irritated at this and made a point of rudely telling me the market price of the king crab legs when I did NOT ask. I’m guessing he thought we were broke because we weren’t buying bottles of wine and tipping accordingly. His demeanor was abrupt like we were a nuisance, not a hint of a smile.
Now for the best part! My birthday was not mentioned once until he handed me the check. I went to pull out my card and he stared and says flatly, “Oh. It’s your birthday and you have to pay.” after handing the check to me. My poor husband was taken off guard and began explaining to Tom The Waiter that this wasn’t the case. I interrupted and told him we don’t answer rude questions. It wasn’t a joke, he showed no signs of friendliness, humor, or the slightest trace of being personable throughout the dinner. He was old enough to know better, this wasn’t a 20 year old kid.
In short, if any of this sounds like a good time to you, this is the place! If you’re looking for quality food, quality service in a peaceful environment, this is...
