Bummer. We were very excited to try this place from the first time we saw the sign go up. Having a great experience at the sister restaurant, Elevate Q, around the corner, we were anticipating a fantastic chop house meal. Unfortunately, this was anything but. Two thumbs up for the ambiance but the food was mediocre and the service abysmal. We had a 6:15 reservation which is typically a first seating for a fancy dinner spot and yet, when we ordered the $45.00 Filet Mignon, the server came back after about 15 minutes to tell us they were all sold out, at 6:15, on a Wednesday, in a third-full restaurant.... No matter, we switched our order to the $62.00 New York Strip add $4 for "whipped gorgonzola" or $12 for "black truffle butter" another $8 for asparagus and another $8 for sautéed mushrooms and a meal was lined out. (By the way, I hate this model to begin with. A $62.00 cut of meat really ought to be accompanied with some reasonable sides for that kind of money but we played along expecting nothing but sensational to come out of the kitchen.) We also ordered the Pear Burata Salad ($13.00) and a couple of $15.00 glasses of wine and sat back to enjoy our date night. One glass of wine showed up. We inquired of one server about the other glass and we were told it would be right out. After about 10 minutes, we inquired again and this time, the server went and brought out the other libation. Okay. Things happen. No worries. We carried on. Somewhere in here, the salad(s) showed up. Great salad but not all that impressive from a plating and presentation perspective. Expected something fancy but got kind of run-of-the-mill average. I've had similar at Applebees. We still tucked in and enjoyed, anticipating the next course to roll around and awe us. We are optimistic folk with experience in restaurant challenges so not much judgement, yet. Finally, a couple of empty, un glasses of water and wine later, the food showed up. First time we had seen our server since the 2nd glass of wine was delivered. As we had switched, not our choice, from an 8 oz filet to a 16 oz NY , we had decided to split the entree, accoutrement, and accompaniments between the two of us. Unfortunately, we only had the one plate. We requested a 2nd plate to facilitate the splitting. We sat back awaiting that 2nd plate so we could divvy things up and dive in. The clock ticked on. A few minutes went by and we flagged down the server from the neighboring table and asked for a 2nd plate. "No problem," and "coming right up".... nada. Finally, our server stopped by and we requested a 2nd plate yet again. This time, success! He returned after a brief trip to the back with a 2nd plate. Now, we were ready to get to it. The New York was as underwhelming as the salad and not the cut of meat I had hoped would justify the price tag. A Sizzler standard is how I would rate it. Lots of gristle and unevenly cooked. Medium rare as requested in about the middle third. Rare to medium everywhere else. Still good but on top of everything else, we were very disappointed. By this time, nearly 2 hours had elapsed so we opted out of desert, paid the tab and moved on. Needless to say this won't make it on to our date night go to list. Doubtful we will venture in again despite the proximity to our home and the promise of something spectacular in our own backyard. This turned out to be a...
Read moreWorst. Experience. Ever. I made reservations for Law's Chophouse for Easter Brunch via Open Table. I had read the article that 5280 posted "The Best Over-the-Top Brunch Buffets in the Denver Area" Honestly, I couldn't disagree more. Here is why.... Website states brunch is 45/person. When we arrived, the menu stated 60/person. When I questioned the hostess, she stated "oh, we tried to tell everyone when they booked the reservation for Easter" I stated, I booked via open table and there was no information about this. I had made a reservation weeks in advance and when we arrived, we waited an extra 15 minutes past our reservation time and then were seated in the bar, not the normal dining room. I was a bit disappointed as I had my 80 year old parents with me and their last choice would be to sit in the bar area. I felt as though this was for overflow....people that did not make reservations but were walk-ins. I would have expected the dining room with a reservation and for the better ambience.....not the bar on Easter. Our server was also the bartender. He showed us the menu and told us to basically just head up to the buffet and eat to our hearts content. On our first trip to the buffet, we found it to be 25% stocked...if that. No scrambled eggs, empty lettuce salad bowls ...both caesar and regular salad, noone to serve the prime rib, and several empty roasting pans. The food was very minimal. I asked about scrambled eggs and one of the employees said they would be coming shortly. I went back 5 minutes later and still no scrambled eggs. They were obviously short staffed as the person that was suppose to be serving the prime rib was also a runner for the food. It was so bad that customers just took it upon themselves to serve the prime rib. People slicing themselves huge chunks of meat because noone was there. Not to mention the heat lamps weren't even on so the prime rib was cold when you did get it. When I got back to our table after the first round I asked our bartender/server if that was all the food as most of the dishes were empty. I asked about the menu in more detail as it listed omelets, pancakes, eggs benedict and pancakes. He states "oh, I should have explained that.....you can also order these dishes separate and they will come out "piping hot from the kitchen" I said that would have been great to know as the food that is up there now is minimal and not worth 60.00. So....halfway thru the meal, we each order the french toast, which was good and hot. I felt so bad for my parents as they like to have variety with buffets so they can pick and choose what they want at 80....and there were barely any choices and if there were......the bowls were empty:( I think the restaurant had no idea how to accommodate and prepare the amount of food for the number of people they had. They simply cared more about the $$$$$$. I have waited a few weeks to post and write this review as I like to contemplate the events and if it still bothers me weeks later....than I think the review is justified and valid. And in this case......it was. Positive note.....the...
Read moreWe decided to try Law’s because it was new and we were looking for that type of restaurant for a rare date. We arrived on a Saturday night and the restaurant wasn’t even half full. Alarming but hoped it was due to it being new. We were seated and was a while before we got water, and then even later before we were able to give our drink order. We ordered the Bruschetta as an appetizer. We got a soda and a glass of Chardonnay, which ended up tasting like a crappy glass of wine, so I’m not sure they’re actually putting in any effort into to the wines they select. We eventually got our appetizer and the bruschetta consisted on a bowl of ricotta cheese that was burnt to the point the top was totally black, bread that was toasted and completely oily, and a pile of perfectly cubed tomatoes, way too much garlic, along with a drizzle of balsamic on the plate and a small smear of some basil sauce that looked like it came out of a Heinz bottle. Needless to say, it was probably the worst bruschetta we’ve had. We reluctantly ate it and a while later the waiter took our entree order, yet left the plate on the table. We ordered Jambalaya and a Wagyu burger, two things that a chophouse shouldn’t be able to screw up. Unfortunately, we were wrong. The jambalaya had zero rice, was all pasta, the shrimp was burnt, and the whole dish tasted like an Italian pasta dish with store bought tomato sauce and some spicy sausage thrown in. We didn’t even bother with the shrimp. Zatarain’s Jumbalaya in a box is better. We couldn’t eat half of it before rejecting it. As for the Wagyu burger, I’ve had better with a normal burger at any major franchise. In fact, it tasted like a fast food burger. American cheese, iceberg lettuce, and a standard burger bun. It came with fries that were also pretty average. When I asked for ketchup, I genuinely expected them to bring out the bottle. Why bother with Wagyu when you’re not going to give a crap about the burger anyway? We told the manager our food wasn’t very good and was nice enough to comp in hope that we’d return. He raved how the jambalaya and the burger were big sellers. One, if those two items were bigger sellers at a chophouse and not their steaks, that’s a red flag, and two, they’re their bigger sellers because, like us, people order them expecting them to be good only to be disappointed. So how many order once and never again? Needless to say, we do not expect Law’s to last long. Their service is substandard for any restaurant and disappointing for a chophouse, and there is zero pride in their food. It just wasn’t good at all. As we left we told each other that we should’ve just gone to Raising Cane’s or Chili’s. At least they’d have better food. We left realizing why the restaurant was so empty; the food sucks. So no, we won’t be returning to Law’s. Why dine out when we can make better...
