They should rename this restaurant "The Unhappy Sumo" because all staff including the "manager" were rude, condescending, unprofessional and disrespectful to paying customers. I had a horrible experience and what I paid for was not worth it. I called to place an order over the phone and the hostess answered and was rushing me. I knew what I wanted because I looked up the menu in the website. When I was placing my order, the young woman interrupted me and told me they no longer had that item in their menu. I told them they should update their menu online and asked her if she had something similar to it. She said they did and recommended another item that was doubled the price. I ordered something else for my daughter and I. The hostess then said she needed me to pay upfront in order to place my order in which I did not have a problem with doing so. She then abruptly tells me it would be ready in 30 minutes which I found to be too long but since my little girl wanted sushi, I figured we would just wait for her California rolls and rainbow roll. The hostess did not even thank me for placing an order and hung up. I showed up 30 minutes later and my order was waiting for me in a cart. My little girl was hungry and asked if we could eat outside of the happy sumo patio. I checked to see if the patio but it was not, it was dead and only two women were sitting outside enjoying a drink. I asked the hostess if we could sit outside of their patio and she put her finger up close to my face and and asked me to wait in which I was confused because she was not busy at the time. She picked up the phone as I was asking her a question. When she got off the phone I asked her again, if we could sit outside the patio and she immediately responded and said "no". I asked her why, and he said I did not request to dine in. I then told her I had changed my mind and further stated that the patio or restaurant was not busy and I was a paying customer. She was rude and ignored me. I then got very upset and asked to speak to a manager. They brought a woman from the back of their restaurant who could barely speak English and she asked me what was the problem. I explained to her how unprofessional the hostess was and asked her if we could sit outside of the patio and eat our two rolls because my daughter was hungry. She said "I'm sorry, but you can't" and "I'm sorry my hostess talked to you this way". I also told her the items I originally wanted to order were discontinued. She asked me where I found their menu and I told her I googled the restaurant and looked up their menu. She then had the audacity to tell me I should have searched "happy sumo orchard in Colorado. " I told her there was no need for me to do that because I searched "happy sumo in Westminster" and the restaurant came up. Told her how was I supposed to know there was a different restaurant menu. I advised her to update her website. She was empathetic and did not care what I had to say. There was no point to continue to explain to her what my experience was with her employees as well as herself because she did not care. The worse thing of all was that after all this nonsense, the sushi rolls were super warm, and were falling apart. The sushi was not fresh, was poorly made and over priced. I will NOT be returning to this place again and will make sure to tell my friends and family about my experience and how we were treated. Do not go to this place. It is awful. Poor quality food, rude employees and "manager" and over priced not worth paying for. Places like this should not even be in business. Ps. king Soopers sushi is way better...
Read moreDisappointing, pitiful, flavorless, low-quality, waste of money. I stopped eating here a decade ago because the food is not good. The sushi taste and texture was of breading and rice. Tried it again in Jan. 15 2024, and it's even worse.
Kid's noodle bowl: plain, no sauce, spice, or flavor. Had to dump soy sauce on it so the kiddo could eat.
Thai lettuce wraps: There's no way this is Thai. Barely any chicken, and mostly what appears to be small- diced canned tomatoes and it indeed tastes like a watered down can of tomatoes. Served with a chili sauce, but not your standard offering at any Asian restaurant. Served with the heart of iceberg lettuce which was difficult to split into layers, definitely not suitable for lettuce wrap, and ended up stacking small chunks of lettuce.
Spicy garlic edamame: Zero flavor, zero spice, zero sauce, zero garlic. Not even a hint of salt. The beans didn't even taste like your standard boiled bean. Just flavorless. We couldn't eat it.
Coconut Crusted Halibut: it almost seemed that they got the crusted coconut flavor correct, but it was overcooked and rubbery, so it tasted like crunchy, rubbery bread. Couldn't cut the fish with a knife. Literally pulling it apart by hand like rubber. It's fish. Fish is supposed to be very easily pulled apart with a fork.
Happy Hawaiian: AWFUL. The tiny amount of chicken were gross, slimy, fatty bits and gristle. Can't explain the sauce, but it's not a delightful blend of soy and pineapple. The veggies in the chicken were thin strips of onion, bell pepper, and carrot, but I couldn't differentiate flavors or textures. Then, for the side, they offer tempera veggies or stir-fried. We chose stir-fried because it is served with rice, and surely you wouldn't tempura fry super thin strips of bell pepper, so we figured there'd be veggie variety and a balance with the sauce. The side was literally the exact same mush of veggies that were already mixed with the chicken. They just put a serving of just the veggies on a different portion of the plate and threw in two pieces of completely flavorless broccoli. This whole meal tasted like bad canned food.
Cleanliness: Gross. This place is pretty with a good ambiance, but the decor mounted on the wall just above the booth was some of the dustiest I've seen in a restaurant. Off-putting to say the least.
Service: Not great. We asked for kids chopstick helpers, didn't get them. He ate the noodles by hand. The server came by a couple times and asked if we needed anything. We clearly were not eating much. When time to clear plates, she didn't ask how our food was or even notice that a lot of the food was untouched and we also didn't ask for boxes. She didn't ask if we wanted boxes either. We waited so that we could ask for a manager because the food was just so bad, but she just said let me grab those plates. We figured a review online would be better than even trying in store. We didn't see any visible manager on site.
My teen ate the Rainbow Roll and potstickers, and had no complaints. But also agreed that the other offerings were terrible.
The bill was $100 before tip, and we left a full and proper tip of 20% anyway. $120 later, we left hungry and...
Read moreEDIT: Removing some stars because the service is bad and really slow. Last time we were here the food took forever (like an hour) to come from the kitchen. We did not expect pan noodles to take that long, so when it finally came out we asked to have it boxed up because we were running late. We ran to our cars and realized we accidentally left our meal on the table, so we ran back as fast as we could and they apologized ,stating that they already threw it away. They said just come back next time and we will take care of it for you. We came back a month later and ordered the same dish and the service was very slow again, even though they were not busy this time. The waitress never came by to refill our drinks or to ask is if we wanted anything else. When she finally showed up again she handed us the ticket, and didn't even ask us if we wanted any refills, desserts or anything (I would have ordered a dessert but it was taking way too dang long). I explained what happened last time with regards to our meal being thrown out and the waitress grabbed the manager (different one this time) but she didn't care what happened on our last visit and acted like she didn't believe us, and refused to cover that dish as the manager from the previous visit had promised. Wow, what a way to treat customers! I was shocked at the way the manager treated as, so I told her" fine I will be in contact with the owner, and I guess no tip for the waitress, and it's a shame I guess I will never come back again, and I'm going to post this experience to both Google, Yelp, Facebook and Instagram." I wish I had cash on me to tip the sushi chefs at least, because they were great. Previous review: Very slow service, and the waitress discarded our Togo meal ( when we left it on table by accident because we were running late as service was exteremely slow. We realized when we exited the restaurant, and came back in but they already trashed it 😞 they said sorry but don't worry, we will cover you when you come back next time... Other than that, we also ordered the miso glazed salmon which was absolutely amazing! Generously sized portion of wild line caught sockye Salmon grilled to perfection! I was very impressed with the texture and flavor. Definitely worth the wait. In my opinion the kitchen food here is much better then the sushi (Sushi rolls are too American and...
