The ice cream you get from the case just for a cone or a cup is actually outstanding, but I knew no one would pay attention to the negative part of this review if I made it a four or five star.WARNING: do not buy pre-packed pints or quarts from the freezer case in the store, or from grocery stores. I purchased a quart of donut flavored ice cream from the st. Charles location yesterday, and when I got home the whole quart was crystallized. This ice cream costs over $10 per quart which is absolutely absurd for ice cream unless it is perfect. Crystallized ice cream is completely ruined and useless ice cream, no matter how good the initial creamy ice cream was. When I told Issac, who works at the Wheaton location about this problem, he was super kind and apologetic and offered me a free pint of ice cream from their freezer to make up for the inconvenience. I thought it was incredibly kind of him and I still do appreciate it despite what happened next. When I got home, the pint of ice cream I got for compensation was also completely crystallized, even worse than the Donut from the st. Charles location. If you are going to take ice cream home from this place, do not get it from the pre-packed offerings. Make sure you have them hand pack it for you right from the case. Isaac said it does not cost any more for this, like it would at Oberweis. If possible, go for it when it's not a busy time of day like nights during the summer. It's not cool to make people wait in line behind you while they hand pack an entire quart. Hope you enjoy the ice cream, and don't get stuck with crystallized garbage the way I did - twice.
ADDENDUM: I was unable to figure out how to reply to the owner's response so I am posting this portion of the review AFTER the owner's and my meeting and her response post - just to be clear on the timeline. Kimberly was extremely kind and apologetic which I couldn't appreciate more. The ice creams I got as hand packed were Caramel Pecan Fudge (or something close to that) and Chocolate fudge brownie (or something close to THAT). They were both out of this world! Not a single crystal and incredible flavor. I am upgrading my review to a 4 star now. My ONLY complaint with Kimmer's is that the ice creams that have chunks of stuff in them (like the two I mentioned above) are too light on the number of chunks. I frequently buy Ben and Jerry's from the grocery store , which I find is too HEAVY on the chunks. I highly doubt Kimmer's makes them light this way to save $ on ingredients b/c their ice cream itself is so high quality. It's probably just a personal preference issue and another connoisseur would say Kimmer's is just perfect on the chunk concentration. This will definitely not keep my away from Kimmer's and I hope to visit with Isaac and Kimberly frequently throughout the summer of...
Read morethis is by far my favorite ice cream place! they are very accommodating with allergies. i have a tree nut allergy and they make sure to clean the scooper that they use for my ice cream before scooping it. also, each allergen that is in a flavor of ice cream is listed underneath the flavor, so you know what allergens are in it. there are so many delicious, creamy flavors. some of them are common flavors like chocolate or cookies and cream, but they also have different ones like the parent trap, which is oreo with peanut butter. they have some for different seasons that are there for a limited time as well. they have a variety of cones to choose from, which are all delicious. they also sell pints of ice cream, ice cream cakes, and ice cream pies. the atmosphere is great. it is located in downtown wheaton, a fun place to go with family or friends, and the decor inside is very fun and original. the workers have always been nice and helpful to me. i have gone to kimmer’s so so so many times and have never been tired of it. it’s the perfect spot to go after a sporting event, while in downtown wheaton, or anytime you want. another great part about kimmer’s is that you can test any of their flavors before ordering. this has helped me a lot when looking at new flavors. there are so many other great things i could have said about kimmer’s. i highly recommend that you try it out sometime and see for yourself how wonderful...
Read moreI love them and love their ice cream but not having a bathroom that my kids can use while we eat ice cream there is a big 👎 .. i just don't have the energy to have to walk my kids down the block and back just to pee. So if we take ice cream to a park I'd pick up here buy if we dine in then I'd probably choose Kilwins just based on this unfortunately.
I just want to add in response to the owner:
*This location has been one ice cream shop or another for DECADES and this is the first time one has not allowed bathroom access.
*Perhaps they have reasons why the current situation doesn't work but ask yourself... do you want to bring yourself, your young kids, their grandparents to an ice cream shop, sit down, then have to leave and come back for the bathroom. Really that's up to us to decide if it works. For me it does not. It seems it would be worth the simple addition of a more permanent wall between the front and back to divide the bathroom to create a more welcoming environment...
