Read moreI came in for lunch around 1:00 and was never shown the additional menu with regular options outside of the buffet. Our server told us the buffet was $15 per person, which sounded reasonable since we’re used to paying $15–$20 for lunch buffets elsewhere. She also explained that with the sushi buffet you would just get a couple of pieces from each roll you picked, not the entire roll, which made it sound appealing because we could try different varieties without being overwhelmed.
Based on that, we decided to go with the buffet. We ordered two rolls to start (Baltimore Roll and Volcano Roll) and also picked up some chicken and rice from the buffet area. When the sushi arrived, we were surprised to see that they served us full rolls, not sample pieces. After finishing those two rolls, we were already full and couldn’t eat more.
When the check came, the total was $77. That’s when we realized the buffet was actually $30 per person, not $15 like our server had told us. I take responsibility for not reading the menu closely, but the staff should also know their own pricing and explain it accurately.
To make matters worse, when we asked if we could at least take home the leftover pieces from the rolls we paid $77 for, we were told no, unless we paid extra. So in the end, we spent nearly $80 for two sushi rolls and a couple of buffet plates of chicken.
Needless to say, I won’t be returning. This place is overpriced, misleading in how the buffet was explained, and unwilling to work with customers when mistakes are made. If they had simply shown us the other menu in the beginning, we would have ordered à la carte and left satisfied. Instead, we left feeling misled and...
Read moreKanji Sushi is a fantastic new addition to White Marsh, located right outside the mall food court entrance in the former Green Turtle spot (or the old Burger King for the OG 90’s kids). The space is massive, making it perfect for large groups, and the recent renovations give it a clean, modern look.
We visited for lunch on a Saturday and were seated right away. As first time guests, the staff took the time to explain how the menu works which was nice. Kanji offers an all you can eat experience that includes both sushi and Japanese hot dishes like udon, fried rice, and hibachi, all made to order. The pleasant surprise that caught us off guard was the self serve buffet bar, featuring gyoza, fried chicken, desserts, and the star attraction, seafood boil with snow crab clusters, all included in the flat $30 price ($35 if you want sashimi).
Our table of two ordered multiple rounds of maki, nigiri, hand rolls, and hibachi, all of which arrived quickly, tasted fresh, and were nicely prepared. The buffet bar was just as impressive, with dishes replenished often and kept hot and fresh. The seafood boil was the unexpected standout. Endless, well-seasoned snow crab clusters that was jus the icing on the cake.
Overall, Kanji Sushi delivers one of the best endless sushi and seafood experiences in Baltimore County. Come hungry, and you will leave more...
