I came in tonight as a first time customer and am very disappointed with both the food and service. I don't typically leave reviews like this but I did attempt to make it right with the owner's son (via facebook) and unfortunately have to leave a one star review.
I am a physician and explained to the owner's son that I wanted to try this place after a long night shift in the ER. I placed my order and went to pick up the food before closing. The older woman had taken my credit card and at that time did request for some sauce. Mind you, most places that I have eaten don't charge extra but she decided to charge my credit card without asking or letting me know the total. I'm fine that it cost extra but the principal behind that is if you run someone's credit, it's respectful to tell them the total cost so that there isn't any confusion. Of course, she ran it without telling me that it was going to be extra, and when I asked about it, she became rude. No way to talk to a customer like that. The son proceeded to tell me that the price is listed on the menu, inside, etc. AGAIN, ITS THE PRINCIPAL. TELL THE CUSTOMER THE PRICE BEFORE YOU RUN THEIR CREDIT CARD. He then proceeded to question why I was even questioning his mother. Crazy.
Additionally, I expressed my concerns about my food this evening, specifically the fries (very soggy, cold, lack of flavor) and the fish was overcooked. I'm assuming because I was picking up the food towards the evening, they probably didn't care and was rushing orders. I told this to the owner's son and not once during his facebook message did he address this concern. He didn't apologize for the food nor did he attempt to make it right. He continued to express how thankful he was for my service as a physician. NO need to thank me for doing my job - but your restaurant obviously doesn't care about doing it's job to satisfy and take care of their customers.
I KNOW DURING COVID THAT WE NEED TO SUPPORT FAMILY OWNED RESTARAUNTS BUT THE SON AND THE FAMILY DO NOT CARE ABOUT MAKING THINGS RIGHT WITH CUSTOMERS IF THERE IS AN ISSUE. INSTEAD, THEY MAKE EXCUSES FOR THEIR LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. Please do NOT support a family owned business that is obviously money driven. CANNOT recommend nor will I ever return...
Read moreThis is a Edit: if u seen my review previously, up for 4 years, always had at least 4 stars. After today if there was a way to give less than one star I would. I wondered why they haven't regained the momentum they had prior to COVID-19 but I now understand exactly why. I was a fan of the owners since his days at the Fishermen's Warf that used to be right at the tip of Bexely on Main Street. I can say today I am no more. From the quality of the food and how it's dropped to the fact that the customer service is beyond trash. Oh some are super nice if you're agreeable but if there's a issue of any sort, their care for the customer is horrendous. I'm a mother of 9 (and my now adult children patronized this buisness) between myself, my best friend (a local judge) and friends of my family, this was always our go to.... AFTER TODAY...I DON'T CARE IF THERE'S NO OTHER OPTION...WE WON'T BE GOING! THE OLDER LADY WHO TOOK MY HUSBAND'S ORDER FLAT OUT LIED IN MY FACE and HIS AND PER FACETIME I WATCHED HER TAKE HIS ORDER, TO THE LADY WHO USES BRONZER 20 SHARES TOO DARK WHO INSERTED HERSELF AND ALL BUT CALLED MY HUSBAND A LIAR TO THE OWNER WHO TOLD ME "WE NEVER FRY THE FISH IN OUR ATHENA GROUPER" (it's not that way in the menu but since 2018 when i first asked if frying the fish would be a option, I've always gotten it that way) LIKE AT 52 I don't know a dish that I get every visit (my mother and daughter too) and request and have ALWAYS gotten the dish prepared this way. When I say taken back, I mean I was completely put off by the behavior. Funny thing is that about 6months ago I literally argued someone down when they told me how badly the bad BRONZER Babe had behaved and how horrible their last 2 experiences. Needless to say, I called and apologized to them today. Good Bye Mad Greek cause apparently your name is...
Read moreI came to the Mad Greek with my coworker on Father’s Day (we had to stay in town to finish a project), and we enjoyed a fantastic meal on his recommendation. I just remember the deliciously crisp French fries and the absolutely monstrous gyro that was made for us. I had some hot grape leaves with my meal, and I was just blown away by how delicious all the food was.
I don’t think I’ve really had Greek food that was this good ever before, and really, I think I didn’t really know what Greek food was before coming here. I have to admit that I was expecting a totally different kind of food, and man, this experience made me feel like I’d been missing out!
I also tried a lemon soup that was utterly divine, as well as one of the homemade pistachio desserts, which stood toe to toe with many of the wonderful desserts I’ve had in my life.
Overall, I just thought this was a outstanding experience with some extremely hospitable people that work there, and a family that really cares about what they put out.
Just a note that it can get pretty busy, so if you come starving, you may need to wait a bit, but once you've ordered and sit down, the food comes quick!
I love this place, and next time I’m in town, I’ll definitely be hitting...
