Not a great experience. This is a new restaurant and they clearly have some things to sort out on the service side, they were flustered and poorly trained. It was an hour wait on Saturday night so we sat outside. After 40 minutes we asked if we could get a drink while waiting and the hostess apologized for not sending someone out sooner. We decided to sit at the bar instead and sample some sake since its a sake bar. When we asked the bartender for recommendations he knew nothing about the sakes and couldn't make an informed recommendation. So...we guessed. When we sat at our table it was more of the same, a server who had not been trained to talk about the sake or the menu items. We ordered a Blue Fin and Pink Lady sushi platter but got a Blue Fin and Pink Something drink sent to us. No soy sauce and had to ask to have the tiny thing refilled a few times. VERY slow. The whole thing took over 3 hours!
Here's the deal: Our server (Michael) was nice as could be and was working his tail off. He needed to be better trained but that's the management's guffaw, not his. I thanked him a number of times and we all tipped well, he did great. The bartender, same deal, not his fault and we tipped well. The atmosphere is great and feels very upscale and contemporary. The dishes are very pretty and fun to look at. Cosmetically, its all awesome. However, 3 hours for dinner and sake at a sake and sushi bar where the staff is unfamiliar with the sake and sushi? Maybe... if the sushi was great. Was it great?
Meh.
The yellowtail sashimi was a bit chewy and still slightly frozen, too many dishes with cream cheese (that's not sushi), and everything was pretty flavorless. So...
5 stars for atmosphere 1 star for menu knowledge 3 stars for food
I'm sure this place will get better, it has to if its going to compete with the 2 other sushi restaurants in walking distance that are currently much better. I'll bet there are 5 star nights here and there are 2 start nights here. Young restaurant. Until its consistently better, though, I'll...
Read moreDO NOT EAT HERE GO TO WASABI. WASABI IS 100% better and customer service is 1000% better!!! Being new to Wichita, Blue Fin was highly recommended. We have tried Wasabi many times and really enjoy it, but thought we would give blue fin a try. We had a party of 14 people. First the waiter had to ask 4 times the drink order. Then misso soup came out cold. When food started coming out we asked for wasabi and ginger. The waiter came and said okay that’s everything. Nope we are missing 4 rolls. He proceeded to come back 3 times to keep asking what rolls were missing. Everytime we asked for wasabi and ginger. Wasabi was brought by another “manager” with 2 more rolls and she asked if we had everything. We explained we are now missing 2 rolls. And still no ginger. I told her to cancel one of the rolls but bring my daughters. Extremely frustrated I explained this was the worst service and we have been patient enough with them. The “manager” said she can’t comp us, that she had to call her supervisor. We received our checks and were told but you ate the food so there isn’t anything we are going to do. Also the roll we cancelled was still on the check. Oh and gratuity of 20% for the worst customer service. After fighting with us to take off a roll that we never received they finally took it off. I will be sure to tell everyone we know about how horrible this place is and once more how incompetent the...
Read moreIf there was a way to put NO STARS I would , my husband and I decided to come out tonight for a dinner date . Upon our arrival the establishment looked unclean . But the food looked good on the website so we decided to give it a chance. I want to start off by saying that our server, who was brand new, was very kind. I ordered a simple sesame salad. I noticed the salad looked a bit off ( like bottom of the salad bag that had been left in the refrigerator for too long ) but I thought okay maybe i’m being too judgmental. After two bites I realized underneath the salad on top was SLIMY DARK GREEN OLD LETTUCE. Ide actually smelled it as I ate and noticed thank god because I almost vomited. I kindly notified our server . Next I ordered the lobster roll which was a big roll of MUSH, and the pear martini which tasted like Cough syrup and fish was absolutely not fresh . The roll was not a baked roll however the roll itself was warm and with tuna and salmon on the roll I feel like it shouldn’t have been room temp . I’m currently trying not to be sick to my stomach, and hoping I didn’t get food poisoning. Please do better , I’m unsure what happened to this place but I had higher expectations. This being the last time we will ever attempt to eat sushi...
