I visited this place for lunch in very early June. Because I don't live in Wichita I had to rely on Google to tell me what was good for lunch and may I say I wasn't disappointed. My girlfriend joined me and she ordered the spinach pie and meat pie. Both were excellent and filling. The pastry dough itself was pillowy and the meat was well seasoned in the meat pie. The spinach pie was the star of the show here. A delicious delivery method for those leaves we all grew up hating. My girlfriend enjoyed them so much she ordered a second set of spinach pies to go for later on.
We shared the appetizer plater which had, as I recall, both hummus and baba ganoush as well as artichoke hearts, feta, roasted red peppers, fatoush (spelling?) Olives and fallafel. This would have pleased even the most discerning appetite. The fallafel was perfectly cooked, the hummus had fantastic texture and was not overly garlicky, and I loved the addition of the fresh cheese to go along with the rest of the appetizer.
I ordered the tortellini in red sauce with grilled chicken for extra protein. I was expecting the standard issue red marinara but was delighted to find a creamy almost vodka like sauce instead. The pasta was Al dente and the chicken made for an excellent addition to the dish. Be forewarned however, these dishes are not for the who are just "kind of" hungry. Come to eat and you will be happy you did.
I can not review this restaurant with out a few words about our server. If memory serves her name was Carmen. She did a phenomenal job of making sure everything was in order for my girlfriend and I while still maintaining an impressive pace with the four other tables. She worked with a smile and was an absolute pleasure to chat with.
I look forward to coming back here for more delectable food the next time I find myself in what I consider to be a major aviation Mecca. Of course, the coupon for free hummus won't sway that...
Read moreWe had to walk out of this place today because urban black men dont get treated the same as other guests. We had to order after people that were sat after us (approx. 7-10 mins to PLACE order)and we never got asked if we wanted anything to drink. Never got a water refill and needed extra cutlery since mines weren't clean. While we waited for the tab for another 10 minutes we saw the 2 tables sat after us had paid recieved refills and to go boxes while we just got looked over. Tried to call a manager since we didnt see one on the floor and noone was in the front of house so we left. No a black guy did not intend to dine and dash on your server today.. so whatever sob story about how she knew it was going to happen is b.s. We tip VERY WELL. We are both actually restaurant managers. Steps of service were very slow only for us because she made us the table that had to suffer so she could work everyone else's. Its because of how I looked and nothing more. She saw us and assumed we wouldnt notice these things.. I am VERY aware of how people think in that position. Where it got unreasonable was when she didnt check back until we were almost finished eating (needed more ketchup and silverware)and she then told the owners wife (the blonde waitress) she was ok and didnt need help but we had been sitting for at least 10 minutes waiting on a tab. She came back and pre-bussed my plate and left for another 5 minutes to greet a table and whatever else in the back of house. We were NOT a priority and we have supported this place through the whole pandemic via takeout and this was the way we were treated when we finally...
Read moreI’ll start with the food… the hummus was wonderful! I would come back just for that. And when I say just for that, I mean that alone and nothing else. When we arrived, we were asked to wait 15 minutes because there was a catering order they needed to finish, which was okay, just odd to me considering it was only a table for 2 and there were maybe 4 tables with people in the entire restaurant. And we weren’t allowed to be seated… we had to wait by the door in what I guess was considered the waiting area. The restaurant was clean, minimal dust, but very outdated. The prices on the menu were great, but I’d say our actual meal was mediocre. Not bad, just not what I think of when I think of Mediterranean food. We were looking for fresh, authentic flavors, and personally did not find that here. Our waitress was friendly, but the guy in charge (I’m assuming owner or at least manager) was cold and made an unprofessional “joke” about buying something for the waitresses if it meant they would stop “b*tching”. My husband ordered a beer and after the waters arrived he asked again for it, the guy seemed like we were wasting his time, and we never received it. It was on the bill, so we requested to have it removed, so just overall not impressed. We had our hopes high after tasting the amazing hummus, but unfortunately everything else about the visit was “meh”. Not terrible, just not great. Go for the hummus, but I wish you better luck with...
