The Antipasto had no giardinera, and I found one wilted, brown piece of lettuce and another straight-up rotten! I should have sent it back, but by the time the waitress finally checked on us, I had very cautiously eaten about half. She offered another, but I didn't want to take the chance of being served something worse and advised I had already eaten half. Then the pizza arrived. It looked like a spiral of red and white. There was no cheese on the red parts. The crust had a bread like texture, and I honestly couldn't taste the cheese. I was so disappointed but was still hungry. We took most of it home. I later added more cheese, but it still wasn't "right." To be fair here, I made pizzas in New York on Long Island for over ten years. I was also the manager of Papa John's in Virginia for over 2 years. I am picky when it comes to pizza, but not a pizza snob. My boyfriend had the cheese steak and said it was "ok." He LOVES cheese steaks, so you judge if "ok" meant it was good or just passible. I complained when the hostess asked how our food was, telling her our waitress hadn't even discounted the Antipasto, even after seeing the completely rotted lettuce and the wilted, brown piece. I said if she had even taken $2 off, I would have been ok, but she didn't. I left her no tip, as she's supposed to watch quality control and should have checked before she served it. It was a little busy, probably why it took so long for her to come back to us. The decor was nice, but there were too many tvs hanging around. If I knew it was a "sports" venue, I may not have gone in the first place. I like to talk with my fellow diners and not sit in silence while everyone is distracted with a game or the other patrons rooting for their teams. Thankfully, there wasn't much going on in the way of sports that evening. I vote with my money. I...
Read moreThis was very disappointing. I can't really even give it a star since I didn't actually eat there, but I can't post without the star. I was in Wilkes-Barre for a travel hockey game with my son's team. Since the game would be over at dinner time, the team usually tries to have dinner together at a restaurant especially when we are out of town. Since we were in Wilkes-Barre, Grotto's was suppose to be the best pizza around. Our team manager tried to call ahead as we would be a large party (25 people with mostly kids), but they would not take a reservation which in itself is okay. We arrived at the restaurant, which had ample space to seat a party of 25 and they did put tables together for us. However, the waitress came over and said that she wouldn't be able to do separate checks. After several suggestions from a team mom as to how this could be done, the waitress went to get a manager and the conversation continued. The manager simply refused to do separate checks even with several suggestions of an easy way to handle this. The travel team does this often when they are away games and never once has there been a problem. The team (parents and kids) ended up leaving and took their business elsewhere. Since it seems the Grotto Pizza didn't care about the business and maybe they don't need to, another restaurant benefited from a really hungry hockey team and probably will again the next time the team plays...
Read moreFood is decent still, but I don't agree with their delivery service. I had one time a few years ago that i asked for delivery to my apartment, only to be met with a girl's attitude when saying, "We don't deliver there." Then she quickly hung up. Fast forward to now, I ordered delivery online to see if it'll still be an issue, and my order did ho through. However the staff contacted me saying they will make this one exception, but they refuse to deliver to my address because the building is secured. The drivers complained about needing a code.
First of all, many apartments these days have call boxes for tenants safety. It is almost never complicated to buzz a person's apartment. So either Grotto hires drivers with below averagd IQs who are incapable of reading thd door sign with simple directions..... or there is a different reason. I wouldn't put it past a place to refuse service since I live in the projects. I have met my share of drivers who outright say that they refuse to go near the projects in Wilkes Barre because the assumd everyone in thosd buildings are lowlife.
Regardless of Grotto's reason I never had issues with places like Januzzis getting in and out of my building. So enjoy receiving less service! I am surprised you guys are...
