Had to find a place to stay while my husband had surgery at the VA. We looked into the Days Inn the week prior and reserved a room right away. My first night in Wilkes Barre was disaster. I left the hospital after being up since 4AM to get there in time. Only to get dinner from a fast food place and wanting to go back and just relax. Only going through the mall parking lot I hit a huge pot hole in the dark and blew a tire. I was tired, hungry, freezing, and worried about telling my husband who was recovering what happened. The worst part was I could see the hotel across the highway in front of me. AAA came changed my tire and led me out of the pitch black parking lot, not lit up at all, and right to my hotel. Now when I entered the hotel I was greeted, consoled, and given the best customer service. My room was nice and clean and warm to boot. I did manage to sleep well. The room was very quiet. I came down for breakfast in the lobby the following morning. Later the woman at the desk that checked me out told me how to get to the Firestone around the mall. And how to avoid all the potholes. She knew how nervous I was. My husband was meant to get discharged and had to stay an additional night. That night I knew I needed a room, which I had not reserved. I did manage to get another room for that night. Again great room on a lower floor. A little noise from someone outside playing loud music in their car. Not the hotels fault. Got up the next day to go eat at the IHOP across the parking lot. And then checked out. Have to admit it was my first time in a hotel room alone ever. This hotel was close to the VA, food, and stores if I needed anything. I was also able to use my AAA discount. I would recommend thus hotel to anyone. My husband was also very grateful for the service I recieved. I think he was more worried about me...
Read moreStayed here recently for one night when I was too tired to keep driving. They quoted me a price of $130, I thought to myself, this Days Inn must be much nicer than the other ones I've stayed at for them to charge that price (I've stayed at Days Inn all up and down the east coast, never was charged more than $70 [with no prior reservation] and that was with an animal staying with me). Was too tired to haggle with the guy over the price so I agreed. The room was nothing special, the carpet felt damp and sticky throughout, it looked like someone punched a hole in the bathroom door. Nothing looked visibly dirty. Internet had a weak signal and very slow in the room I was in. Didn't sleep well, housekeeping woke me up by knocking on my door at 8am and again at 9:15 (that time they tried to come in but I had the latch closed). Checkout isn't until 11am. Looked online and saw I could rent a room there for between $65-$75. When leaving I asked why I was charged almost double what I could find the room online for. He said online prices are different (okay, paying $10 or $20 above what's online I understand, double??? no) and he wasn't going to entertain discussing the price. Shame on me for agreeing to that price to begin with. After seeing their breakfast I got a Cliff bar out of my car. There were at least two police cars there when I was checking out. Never looked at the pool so don't know what that was like. I don't mind paying that price for a room if the room meets the expectations. This definitely is no Hilton or Hampton Inn. Do yourself a favor- go down one more exit on 84 in either direction and skip over this place. I'll never stay there again. Gross and poor customer...
Read moreDefinitely a no frills motel. Actual rating would be a 2.5 if allowed. Motel was inexpensive. It was clean with NO bedbugs. They offer a complimentary breakfast but it is more like a continental breakfast. Items included toast, bagel, English muffin and plain donuts. There was also yoplait yogurt, fresh apple or orange, hard boiled egg, raisin bran and frootloops with milk. Coffee, tea, orange and apple juice. Breakfast is laid out between 7:30 am and 930 am. There is lòts of parking and entrance is handicap accessible. Establishment is very old and doesnt appear to be updated. The beds are comfortable. Ample lighting aside from very small bathroom with very dim lighting, loud bathroom fan, very low water pressure. Had to hold toilet lever down for an entire minute to flush. Very outdated and shoddy workmanship. Staff are friendly. Hallways smell of extraordinary amount of scented cleaning carpet powder..( will bother allergies). There was an issue of people smoking marijuana in the building aside from it being "smoke free" The smell was so bad it permeated the room and appeared to come through the bathroom fan system. There were several homeless people both in and around the establishment. We were asked for money, cigarettes and rides. In addition to this, some staff live on site and when they prepared their meals, the smell of curry filled the hallway and entered the room. Motel is pet friendly and was quiet. Overall, it was clean, inexpensive and bug free but not somewhere I would ŕeturn to unless I was shy on funds and just needed to sleep...
