Glad to see new place open, but.... 1* down for half self service 1* down not allowing supstitutions
If you look closely into my reviews , you can get a feel I do support& appreciate local businesses, but expect the same coming from them. Place does look cool & clean but I feel they do lose a sence what should be a good service...and I do feel it's not the specific server but the company policies and that needs a CHANGE. As stated, place looks cool & clean, menu interesting and delicious but the question to the management & ownership is: Do you really need servers ? If they come to the table and say, water is there& ice backet right next to it, grab it yourself... ( which I find weird looking into every guest opening , bending over , looking confused ) If was busy , I would kind of understand but was slow and you could see they trained to talk that way. The other thing is, If i don't like something , I feel I shoud be able to change it, right? ( simple...no garlic aioli, reg mayo etc ) the answer was NO ...we can't do that. Did not ask for something that is not on the menu but simple supstitution. For a burger with a fries that cost almost $ 20 , I found answer like that offensive. 2 people , $50 with grat ( i would not skip grat even if def should tip myself for grabing water and not being allowed to supstitute ) Once again , not blaming servers but the company policies ( some people will find it even more offensive and skip tipping ) , seems ridicuolus. Personally, not going back till I hear from the others those things got changed ) I hope , management or whoever read this, find this helpful on a long term. Once it changes , i will go back and def update my...
Read moreMy wife and I came here while on vacation and spent way too much for a burger place. Some was our fault, two things were not. First, we should have just stuck to water. Their Coke was $3 for a can they probably bought next door at Food Lion. So $6 for two cans. Stupid. Then my wife ordered while I was in the restroom and the waitress asked if she wanted fries with our burgers and she said yes, not knowing they were $4 a piece and not included with the burger. Most sit down burger restaurants include them. The owner responded to an earlier review saying their prices are transparent. No they are not when the fry price is in a dark red box with white font in the top left corner in a dark restaurant because you choose to not have the place well lit.
The fries came in a paper container that's about a medium at a fast food place (i.e. $2.99 at McDonald's). The size was not worth $4.
The burgers were pretty reasonably priced and good, although a quarter pound (4 oz) was on the smaller side for $10 for mine and I think $9 for my wife's. They should have been at least 6 oz for that price. We also got a crispy Brussels sprouts appetizer that was very good and a heaping amount for $9. Those were well worth the price.
But altogether we spent $45 before the tip, $36 if you don't count the appetizer. $36? That's nuts for a burgers, fries, and Coke. I guess they count on getting people drunk from the bar so you don't notice you're getting ripped off. If I wanted to spend $45 on dinner we could have gone to the Italian restaurant next door. After reflection we...
Read moreIve been wanting to try Cook's Burger Bar since they've opened. I originally messaged them asking about their wing options and sauces to see if I could eat them as I'm gluten intolerant. The person was very friendly vs just sending me the menu as I've experienced with some places. I was finally in the area walking my dog and decided to grab takeout before heading home. This felt a bit risky since I've never dined here before. I liked that their ordering system you could mark gluten allergy very clearly. I ordered a bacon burger on a gf bun. It came with a sauce and I marked sauce on the side. You can add fries for $4 which is great. Since I wanted to indulge I ordered the Farmer's Fries instead which has tons of garlic, pecorino cheese and a garlic aioli.
Once I arrived my food was ready. I asked someone at the front a question about the sauces. He stated they weren't gluten free. I am going to give the benefit of a doubt he was thinking I said vegan as he stated it had "mayo, mustard and ketchup" which is generally gluten free. This caused me to be concerned as the sauce was put on my burger vs on the side. I went back in to confirm and the cook stated it was gluten free. I never want to be "that person" but also want to ensure what I'm eating is safe.
Overall, I enjoyed my food and even after a 20 minute drive it was still delicious. Next time I'm in the 'Burg I'll be back to try...
