I have to start with the first thing I enjoyed about Rick's cheesesteak shop was the fact that it is eclectic and has so much to look at. The second thing I saw when I walked in the door was the Herrs ketchup chips. Ketchup chips are hard to come by south of Canada and I noticed them immediately. I knew I was in the right place! The employee working the counter greeted me and pointed to where the menus were so that I could look over what I wanted to order. I'd come to order the cheesesteak because I heard they were so good. When I'm trying out a new cheesesteak, I always get jalapenos and onions. In just a few minutes the employee brought my sandwich. It was amazing and I have to give it a would recommend. Tons of meat, very cheesy, and the jalapenos added the zing that I like. Well eating my sandwich, I heard the employee mentioned to another customer that they're Rueben sandwiches were the bomb. Now I love a Reuben sandwich, and I had gotten the small (8 inch) cheesesteak and after finishing I noticed I had a little room left and I wanted to give that Reuben sandwich a try. The employee confirmed they come in pastrami or corned beef. I ordered the pastrami. The pastrami Rueben sandwich is also a would recommend! Delicious! The bread was toasted perfectly and I haven't had that kind of perfection for quite some time. And now for the unusual, I saw what they have for dessert. Deep fried cheesecake with cherries sauce. I had to give that a try also. The flavor of the cheesecake was a little lacking, but the fact that it was deep fried and had a wonderful crust brought it back up to a would recommend. And now I have to rate the establishment and the employees. I only saw one employee that was not working in the kitchen, but she was always busy and kept the place clean. One gentleman came in and ordered something and sat down and in about 5 minutes his order was ready and he left. As soon as he did she was cleaning the table and chair that he was sitting in. They hadn't even ate or gotten anything on the table, but had just sit there looking at their phone. She still ran over and sanitized it and made sure it was clean. When I see that kind of diligence in keeping an establishment clean and tidy, I know I can safely eat there and recommend it highly. If you're in town and want a good cheesesteak, Reuben, or fried cheesecake, give Rick's a try!
2022/03/01 I ordered the Ruben again but my wife got the hot Italian sub. Another sandwich on their menu that is fantastic! This is a favorite place to visit when coming to Williamsburg.
2022-07-12 stopped and got the corned beef. Rueben with french fries for lunch. Go out and get...
Read moreOn vacation in Williamsburg, one afternoon we needed lunch. "Maybe something light," I said. "Yeah we should get something healthy," she said. So we did a search online and instead we ended up here. But were SO glad we did! This little sandwich shop is a stone's throw away from William and Mary, surrounded by beautiful ancient trees and historic brick buildings. There is shared parking in this tiny complex, and big SUVs would find parking a little tricky but we were able to 3 point turn into a spot. We went inside and approached the counter where we read the options from a sign and a menu. The nice young lady behind the counter took our order. Checkout was done with one of those tablet thingies and prompted to choose a tip before paying. I generally find it annoying to be asked for a tip before the service and the meal but I went ahead and trusted that everything would be good, and this time it really was. I went for a medium cheesteak with grilled mushrooms and onions, she picked the turkey club. We shared an order of fries with gravy and got 2 fountain drinks. There is outside/patio seating but there was a family with multiple screaming children crawling all over the other tables so we opted to sit inside which was very clean and simple but appropriate for a little sandwich shop. There was a TV on the wall tuned to a sports channel. After about 10 minutes we were called that our order was ready and we were shocked- the portions were huge and the sandwiches truly looked like food porn. My "medium" cheesesteak was around 9" long and thick, toasted and not at all short on chopped beefy, cheesy, grilled onion and mushroom deliciousness. The wife's turkey club was also hefty and looked like a work of art (see the pics!) The crinkle fries were perfectly fried- crispy and toasty with a light fluffy center. In fact, the fries were SO good, we regretted getting gravy on them because it made these delicious beautiful fries soggy, and the gravy was sadly either instant or canned and lacked flavor. Don't get me wrong, we ATE them, but agreed that NEXT TIME (And YES we will happily come back for a next time) we will skip the gravy. Unsurprisingly, we weren't able to finish our portions so we asked for a container to take our leftovers back to the hotel (which although we had no microwave, we ate cold that night!) But what made the whole experience even better was that the young lady behind the counter asked if she could put our drinks in to go cups, which she topped off for us for the drive. We wish we had a Rick's Cheese Steak Shop in OUR area, but we will look forward to returning to Rick's next time we are in...
Read moreA co-worker of my son found Rick's first, he brought back a Cheesesteak to show him and asked if it looked right. My son said yes and it smells right. The next day my son went and brought back cheese steaks. The bread was good with that necessary chew and pull, it was put together right and it was the accurate Construction of a cheese steak. I always have to tell someone making my sandwiches how to construct it, there is a process. It's actually so on point that we don't even bother with anything here that might be close in the Richmond area. So weekly he brings back something and I've tried the hoagies as well. Because I don't want to consume it so quickly I make the large into two meals. You know something is good when you eat it cold and it's not meant to be consumed cold. I've done that with pizza and now I'm doing it with Rick's Cheese steaks. It makes me not yearn to go to Philadelphia for cheesesteaks and Water Ice. It seems more people are moving to Virginia from the Philadelphia area and I gotta girl😋 that drives a sweets truck and has Water Ice. I'm happy and saving money because I actually planned to go to philadelphia, get a hotel for 2 days and collect and enjoy all of the food I've been craving. So Rick's has saved me about $500 plus on a trip. I would say it's my go-to cheese Steak and Hoagie location. Oh, they have hot cherry peppers which are a key component I need for the perfect Cheesesteak and hoagie. Not jalapenos or banana peppers or sweet peppers! I checked my map and it's about an hour from me but definitely worth a trip for that flavor of an authentic cheese stick. For a while I settled for Wawa but they stopped using amoroso rolls...😂😋 right now from me it's Rick's cheesesteaks or nothing. LOL when you know better...
