This restaurant used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Wilmington. After the previous owner passed, it went downhill and then sold. I stopped coming here before it was sold because we were literally getting cold steak and chicken on our tacos. It's been a long time, and knowing that there was new ownership, we decided to give them a try. The inside and out look precisely the same. I think it is time to remodel. Some of the floorboards where we sat were coming up. The service was not bad but not good either. We had to wait a while to get the attention of our waitress to ask for some Picante sauce and refills for our drinks. She also asked us if we wanted refills when we both needed refills, which was strange because we had just received our food. The chips and salsa are still good, but in the basket of chips they gave us, most of the chips were broken into small pieces. The queso is still good, but it was barely warm. We both ordered Fajitas for our entrees. Our waitress asked us if we wanted a half or entire order. That was new. We both got half, which was half-price—$ 10 each for chicken fajitas and one side. Excellent bargain. The chicken in both dishes was very dry, and the onions and peppers were saturated in the sauce they used. I got rice as my side dish. It is one of the worst things I have ever tasted. No clue why they sell that. It is so bad. Our other side was refried beans. It was okay. Nothing about the food or experience was...

Ordered from K-Bueno with the takeout central delivery service a hour and half early, thought great food is on the way.

6pm rolled around, no food called the restaurant spoke to a guy who said he was the manager who was very rude and condescending told me to call the service.

Called them and they stated the delivery driver was at the restaurant and the reason the order wasn't ready is because they never answered the phone and would have to wait for them to make the order and it would be another hour.

By then I just got food somewhere else and when the food finally arrived I was on my way out and as the meal was very poorly made and cold by the time I got it. I gave it to the first person I saw on the corner with a "hungry sign".

I get people are busy and the current climate of the world today things are tough all the way around.

Though, this got me thinking about last the few times I went there over the past years and the staff that appeared to be running the place.

I noticed a dark haired taller skinny guy yelling at the staff who I was told was the manager and thought WOW that's no way to treat people and I would never want my girlfriend or friends to have to work in such an environment.

After this experience it made sense that this isn't really all it's was...

K38 is known for being a place that serves pretty good food. And it's good, of course, but what I want to write about is the service.

My wife and three of our young kids went there last night. I ordered an enchilada, which came out on a hot plate which our pleasant waitress warned me of. She had a mitt on for carrying my plate, but when she took her hand back, a good portion, maybe 20-25%, of the cheese from the top of my enchilada came off. I pointed it out. Not sure why- I wasn't annoyed or anything and I'm not sure what sort of remedy I was expecting. (Bringing some melted cheese out to pour on top of it? That would be sort of weird.) But there was a patch of uncovered enchilada nonetheless.

The waitress came back and offered a cup of queso, which was great for me since I'm not a big salsa fan and now had something to dip my nachos into. My family appreciated it too.

On top of that though, the manager came out with a whole new enchilada for me. And it wasn't just the enchilada, it was the rice and beans too, a whole extra meal, which I'm about to enjoy for lunch.

The mess-up was minor, but they went overboard making it up to me, which I was very...

When we arrived around 6pm there was about a twenty minute wait, which was fine for us, the place was packed per usual. The hostess was nice and very attentive, she worked hard to get everyone seated as quickly as possible. We waited for a spot to open at up at the bar and once seated it was a short wait to get service. The bar tender was slammed, but got us drinks and menus as quickly as she could. They had a margarita special which was delicious. We ordered a shrimp quesadilla, french fries, a cane asada taco, and Street corn. The food came out fairly quickly and was tasty; not the best we've had there, but not bad. It was a very long wait until the bar tender checked up on us and finally got us another round of drinks, but again she was busy. She was apologetic for the wait.

Wow, I've heard that they went downhill recently but I didn't want to believe it. I've been so many times but this will probably be my last. The waitress was nice but it took a really long time to get out food and it wasn't even busy. The flounder taco was the special and it was horrible. The fish was dry and incredibly fishy tasting. Way too much breading and the tortilla was cold, hard, and chewy like it has been sitting out on the counter all day. The tobacco onions were so burned and bitter. I hardly ever send food back let alone both things I ordered. On the bright side they haven't changed their salsa or margarita recipes so those are both still good. Sad to see such a great place change so much.
