I’m not even sure where to begin, but my husband and I were in Wimberley for a two night getaway to celebrate our anniversary and decided to try Marco‘s for our anniversary dinner and I am not sure that I have enough superlatives to describe our experience! From walking in and being warmly welcomed, to the wonderful service by Hannah, our waitress, to the attentive, but not intrusive, attention from Jen, the owner, to the food, (which I will elaborate on) the entire experience was off the charts phenomenal. The food… My husband and I had decided we were each going to get the chicken piccata but Jen happened to stop by the table and recommended the garlic butter crab claws so we decided to order those and one order of chicken piccata. My husband took one bite of the crab claws and declared he was done. He didn’t need to eat anything else. They were the most delicious things he had tasted in years. They had graciously split the chicken piccata order for us and as I, a self-proclaimed chicken piccata connoisseur, took my first bite, I was floored. It was so perfectly cooked with the perfect amount of breading on the outside cooked just enough to give it some texture and the lemon butter caper sauce was just outstanding. I had been craving pasta with marinara sauce, so I ordered a small portion of that as a side dish, although the piccata is served on a bed of pasta, and I just have to say the marinara sauce was so full of flavor. It had so much depth to it that I was just blown away. I would be remiss if I did not mention the vinaigrette dressing I had with my salad, which was excellent, and my husband was very pleased with the lentil soup. That would’ve all been enough, but, as it was our anniversary, Jen very graciously offered a dessert, on the house, and we opted for the tiramisu. Now, we have had tiramisu many, many times and have had an Italian friend make it from scratch, but this (pardon the pun) takes the cake! It’s just perfection. As if all of this wasn’t enough, when Hannah brought our check, the total was $86 and we had a bottle of wine as well. You just cannot ask for more than that! I cannot recommend this restaurant enough and I think we will have to make Wimberley a twice a year getaway just so we can go ...
Read moreSadly, my friends and I used to go to Marco's a lot. We are locals who like to support local shops and restaurants. We like to sit on the patio as it is pleasant and quiet compared to interior of the restaurant. The food is generally quite good. The wait staff have always been helpful and accommodating. As was mentioned by other reviewers, the owner/chef and his wife are consistently berating the staff, which creates a lot of unease and unpleasantness when dining inside. There is constant turnover in the staff.
Our most recent and last visit to the restaurant was on August 8th. Though it was quite warm outside, we set in the shade and I had my service dog next to me in my wheel chair. Another friend brought her Maltese that was seated in a chair by her. We said hello to friends as they came and went. Other guests wanted to pet our dogs. The wait staff was polite and made sure our dogs had cool water to drink.
As we were completing our dinner, Marco came outside in a rage, berating us for blocking access on the patio. Not once had anyone mentioned this to us before, nor had we impeded anyone's access on the patio. Because of the hot temperature, most were dining inside or getting take out.
We were all taken aback by his anger and rage. The wait staff apologized to us for his behavior. When my friends went inside to speak with Marco, he immediately yelled at them to leave and never come back. His wife threatened to call the police. I wish she had because he was in violation of ADA laws protecting the handicapped and could have received a fine.
Bottom line, we will never return, nor will our friends. We often suggest restaurants to tourists and guests who visit Wimberley. We will not be recommending Marco's again.
This is certainly not the behavior expected in our town, that prides itself on friendliness to locals and...
Read moreVery disappointing. Came here out of town with family and first off it was very slow. I understand the food industry, I’m a manager at my bakery I work at, but it was still very slow. Half an hour just to get the soup and bread. The bread was over mixed causing it to be dense and tough. I watched the man baking it and they went in dry, I’d suggest egg washing or butter washing before baking to give it a shine and improve texture. The broccoli soup was very salty and the tomato basil was thinned down marinara. The exact flavor just thinned down to be “soup”. All of the entrees were subpar. Over salting, lack of flavor and lack of cooking. The meats however were cooked well. The server was just plain rude. She was the older woman with glasses and bangs. She was obviously unhappy with her job and taking it out on customers. She was huffing and puffing and glaring at customers and our group. Just unnecessary . Worst of all SANITATION. Staff were touching ready to eat pasta with their hands, no gloves, one woman was wearing gloves but also touching cash and other non food related items then going back to the kitchen to grab pasta without changing her gloves. And the pasta looked to be just in plastic containers that do not hold them at proper holding temp. That can and WILL get people sick. That’s just from the part of the kitchen I could see. As a fellow kitchen manager I am disgusted and appalled by how things are run here. Never...
